Wait... are Austen and Thomas related?! Is that why he’s so worried about her and she felt that his hands on her back were familiar? Or were they dating before she entered the maze (I’ve seen a fanfic like that and... kinda awkward when you’re watching the person you love fall in love with someone else because she doesn’t remember you...) ?

Damn, I mean HOLY FUCK! This grabbed me with in the first paragraph of your first chapter-I'm sorry I'm still trying to pick my jaw up off the ground. I have never, ever read a Maze Runner Female in with the males story that was actually good and not full of so many tropes or cringy moments or absolute canon hogs. Austen is brilliant! I mean I have no words on how taken with this character I am. All the OC stories I've ever read never had me relating with the MC so much, I mean she feels like a real person more than a simple character in a story, she feels like my best friend that I only want the best for. I am not properly putting what I'm feeling into words but there aren't really proper words to use here.

Chapter titles are hard, I personally don't try with them as coming up with the title of the story is hard enough as it is for me. I don't find them necessary but I have recently started mapping out a new story that the chapter titles just seem to fit naturally and actually flow well with the chapter that I'm planning/writing. I think chapter titles should be up to you, if they flow great use them, if not, no harm done leaving them out.

hey i just read this and wanted to pop in and let you know how much i love it? like it's such a cool idea and i wanted to let you know that i thought so? i was on a bit of a maze runner kick and despairing about the lack of fic when i stumbled across it and it was truly a godsend.

i really like austen as a character and she just fits into the world so organically? honestly i think she's the first maze runner oc i've been really convinced by in that way. i've read a few (most) of the others on here and i've never quite been taken in by them in this way. i guess it doesn't help that they always sort of fall into the same kind of tropes? y'know, first girl, super special, centre of everyone's attention. not that there's anything wrong with that, but even with the better written ones it gets a bit tired after a while. austen feels really integrated into the community of the glade though, like these people are her friends, they have history and they actually LIKE each other. they're bros, and i can FEEL that when they interact with one another and i love it. it's good writing dude.

on a related note, this is such an original angle to come at this from and i'm loving it. if only for the Drama of it all. i am WAITING for that reveal, everyone's gonna lose their shit. none of these assholes will ever be able to claim to be in anyway observant again, like rip forever my dudes you had a good run. also my amusement is very much heightened by the fact that i'm pretty sure austen will be Having None Of It if they get all dramatic about it. she's great, i love her.

i like that she's just a genuinely chill person too? like when i first started reading i thought she was gonna be one of those too cool for everyone kinda bitchy characters – which to be clear i have no problem with. that archetype can be fun, if a bit surface level at times – but i was shocked by how delighted i was to find out she wasn't? i don't know she just feels like a real person to me, which i love. she clearly cares about these people and her life here even if she doesn't show it in a conventional way, and they all clearly care about her right back. it makes my heart all warm and fuzzy and shit :,)

and while we're in the subject, GALLY. man what a bro. nothing says love like beating the shit out of one another. i'm off two minds about his possible reaction to the whole "gender" thing. the first says there'd be a minor freak out over regularly beating the shit out of a girl, the second that he'd just be like eh whatever austen's austen, (s)he can take it. honestly i think a small dose of the first followed by a huge scoop of the second is the most likely but whatever. my point is: brotp.

sidenote: i love that you put gally in the lead in their whole sparring thing? because yeah that makes sense. he's way bigger than her (i'm not sure what her "canon" appearance is but i've been picturing a tiny brunette with a pixie cut soo) and stronger too. obviously he'd kick her ass. the whole big and dumb stereotype only goes so far, yeah? and again, it adds so many real person points you don't even know. not that there's anything wrong with a bit of wish fulfillment in the form of an uber badass character but still. i appreciate it.

minho was awesome, despite his limited screen time. as were thomas and chuck. i think there's a tendency to portray thomas as bland and annoying in fandom and i'm really glad you didn't? i like that he and austen are making steps to forming a genuine bond, without her just hanging around stealing canon lines and giving us information we already know, y'know? the food fight was great, i liked it a lot :D

and now: onto my boy newt. the best boy, as it were. i really do think you've done a great job of keeping him in character in a genuinely organic way here, mother hen tendencies and all. i love his and austen's dynamic already, how easy and natural it feels (though i'm sensing a History). that bit about her only being able to her sleep while draped all over him? fuck me the fuck up.

also i love all of the unspoken undertones to their relationship, and i don't just mean the flirting (though that is a). austen's a blatant tease, but i do wonder how aware HE is that it's intentional. and, frankly, what exactly the balance of wilful obliviousness versus quiet, unspoken avoidance is going on in this relationship. like obviously austen isn't persuing anything for gender related reasons and is getting her kicks where she can, but i wonder what's going on on his side. is he not interested in starting anything with the whole situation going on? or with a guy in general? or does he think (s)he isn't interested given the whole display she alluded to putting on? (also love the acknowledgement that a tribe of teenage boys will, beyond obviously not being uniformly straight, probably get it on with pretty much anyone regardless of sexuality if left alone long enough lmao. though ngl ithink a lot of people would).

i'm curious about austen's reasons for keeping her gender quiet though. like i 100% get it at first, what with being surrounded by all these strange boys in a terrifying new place, but since she's made it clear that she loves and trusts all of them by now i'm pretty curious why she hasn't come clean. it could be anything from not seeing the point, to not wanting to inevitably cause tension or uproar or not wanting to be treated differently i guess, it's just interesting...

also, theory time, austen was definitely not supposed to end up in the box and if she hadn't things would have played out a la canon. her gender and her arriving injuries make that seem obvious to me, though i do wonder why wicked haven't just found some other way to kill her if that's the case. also don't know why her memories would be wiped... she and thomas definitely knew each other/were close before Everything too. the familiarity is pretty clear, and my guess would be that he helped her get into the glade somehow. my first instinct was that they were twins, which is a theory i have absolutely no evidence for but am going to throw out here just in case. i'd love to be able to say i told you so lmao.

I loved the progression of her relationship with Thomas, it's clear there is already some kind of familiarity there and I'm excited to find out more as the story progresses.
