Severus is being seduced by the concept of a family very quickly. He's already working to ensure that Ren is treated equally to his sister (and won't both their hearts break when she goes home, even though she'll be ecstatic to see her family).
Severus is already contemplating missing Ren and possibly Edie as well. He'll soon be looking into reasons for them to stay close by instead of returning to Knockturn Alley, even when Lottie is gone.

It'll be hard when Lottie goes home, won't it? Severus already cares enough to miss her, but now Edie and Ren will, too.
I admit, I'm having doubts that he'll let those two return to their old life. They've had one meal together and he's already going beyond the original agreement to pay for Ren's schooling when he's older.
The nosy students will have more fodder for gossip than ever as they watch their intimidating Potions Master with his newly acquired family (while he pretends that's not what they are).
You realize, of course, that I'm voting once again for an AU? Give Severus and Edie a happy ending this time! Pretty please?

He didn't even blink at taking on responsibility for her son. He calls it manipulation to achieve his goal, but Ren is one child who won't be missing an education.
