I think that the Faction of Ash is as powerful as it needs to be, because all but their Saber has One Huge Weakness. They are incapable of learning. Think about it, they fight with a pattern, even if they struggle but win anyway, they will always fight the same way. They don't find what works and exploit it, they don't find what doesn't work and cover for it, they will always do the exact same thing in every fight. This is what all bosses have in common, and it ALWAYS leads to their demise. They become too predictable once you know how they work

Are you gonna do a Fate Grand Order fic with both The Hunter as Grand Foreigner and The Ashen One as Grand Saber? Because that would be awesome! :D

Nah... considering how broken some of the powers and individuals in the Nasuverse are... you need some equally broken opponents for them to make it actually interesting. Plus, Ash should realistically only have problems with opponents from the Age of the Gods like Karna, Achilles, Chiron, Atalanta, Semiramis, and etc., so I would never expect them to lose against the more trash spirits in this war.

Also, Ash is essentially from a primordial age in a sense, so they would logically be the most powerful even if they were no longer well known in the day and age of this timeline's Grail War.

thanks for the chapter but I had a problem when the masters and the characters didn't react to the name that the faction of ash introduced too. They are unknown but their name was given, why was no one reacting to it when they don't know who the heck are they, the name is totally unknown but they are strong. The legend should be proportionate to their strength. If they are unknown, they shouldn't be that strong.

I don't have problem with the faction of ash being that strong. They are up against 2 batch of servants. They should be strong to go against 1 vs 2 and not lose easily.

To be fair, the Faction of Ash are all Age of the Gods Servants, who are canonically more powerful (the older the legend, the stronger the Servant, generally). The only ones who SHOULD be able to stand against them are the higher tier ones: Karna, Achilles, Siegfried and Mordred. Chiron and Atalanta are solid, maybe them depending on which they get matched up with. Semiramis' legend is based on poison and deception, Shakespeare is a joke in combat terms, Spartacus' legend ends in failure, Astolfo is weak compared to Roland or Charlemagne, Jackie is only really good against Caster Friede, Fran is weak in general, Avicebron's golems are nothing the Ash Servants haven't crushed a thousand times each and Vlad is best in his home territory due to his special skills and NP.

The fact they've had terrible matchups (Berserker Havel laughs at physical damage, Friede's style of deception and evasive fighting trumps Mordred's brute force, Ornstein SHOULD be stomping all over lower tier Servants like Astolfo and Fran, etc.) only makes it worse.

There's also the fact that as I pointed out above, a lot of the Apocrypha Servants are mediocre. Astolfo is summoned due to Celenike's sexual preferences instead of combat ability and canonically winds up weakening the Black faction. Fran is meh even if she's kind of adorable at times, Avicebron sucks outside of his NP, Semiramis is OK but not amazing, Shakespeare is just a baffling choice in general and Spartacus is garbage compared to other options for Berserker like Lu Bu, Heracles and Achilles (freeing up Rider for someone else). That's almost half the roster being mediocre to just bad.

Ah so Fran acquired to see the echo of Ornstein Past...she will see and awe being that are in the pinnacle of the Age of Gods...the Lords of Cinder...they have the power to wipe Humanity again and reset and wipe again and into an infinite cycle

Seems pretty interesting so far... that being said I hope there is something to exploit or better matchups somewhere along the way. to have an entire faction that's OP and works well together... well it drains any tension. you get the feeling fights only let the Fate cast survive so there's still a plot to follow rather than any skill that drove off the Dark Souls cast. Right now it feels like the scales would still be unbalanced even if the entire fate cast tried to fight less than half of the Dark Souls cast. at least that's the feeling things are at right now.

It's still an interesting story so far but, I am hoping to more than what are effectively a bunch of gods toying with children that it feeks like at the moment.

Im dissappointed with how many Fate x Dark Souls stories there are. The two fit so well yet it all goes to RWBY and Naruto which arguably don't fit at all with DS. But to see this is refreshing. While some changes which i have a somewhat negative opinion on yet I completely understand them (like the Ashen One being the Soul of Cinder but I understand it because there are hundreds of souls in the SOC so there is one that needs to be in control and need to be the voice). But I am very much enjoying this story and am excited to see more.

Though I am kinda sad that we didn't get all four knights of gwyn I am happy with those we got. (Would have loved all of the knights' reactions to what Artorias has become as the beserker) I feel bad for the sweet cinnamon roll that is Fran though.
