People being petty at the worst of times... That statement defines humanity so bloody brilliantly. Usually, the reasons for someone like an auror making Harry's life difficult would be revealed as some kind of long lost grudge between families or parents or just because the party is a brown noser. It's refreshing to see the reasons Dawlish chooses to make his life difficult.

Though, I would like to know if that the true reason or did he just speak out lout to mislead Kingsley...

Dead wand... Do not, I repeat, do not turn his future wand into some kind of Elder-Thunderbird-Basilisk-Phoenix-Dragon-Vampire-Werewolf monstrosity that is going- Who am I kidding? The wand and core is either going to mundane or totally out of the ballpark that one of us are going to be expecting it anyway.

And Fudge... Merlin! What the hell were you guys high on when you managed this Trump facsimile and where I can get some?

Percy's name-calling was so wonderfully petty that I cannot help but think it fits him beautifully after his stupid rants on cauldron bottom thickness.

I'm really liking where this story looks to be heading. The darker tone is great and I'm always intrigued by the political aspect of Harry Potter, provided its well written. I'm also very curious as to what happened in the graveyard and why Harry's wand isn't working. Suffice to say I'm definitely interested in seeing where this story goes. Keep up the great work!

Another good chapter. Though the pacing of the story seems quite slow for the time it taking to upload. Though i know you guys are working on multiple stories and all of them are really great. This one and your pokemon fix are your best in my opinion and wish you'd focus in these two. Anyway looking forward to the next chapter.

In canon, I thought that Crouch never getting Percy's name right was partly being imperioused and partly not really caring about him enough to get the name right. Having Fudge doing it deliberately is delightful - delightfully evil even. Now, if only I could figure out how a librarian fits into this. However, since she was in the ICW, she might know some things about the supreme mugwump. I would think Fudge would be smart enough to verify that before hiring her but then, when has he ever been the sharpest tool in the shed?

Interesting chapter, if a little short. All of this could have fit in a prologue of some sort I guess. I really hope you'll have a good explanation for Harry's parselmouth abilities other than the Horcrux in his scar, Lily being a descendant of Salazar Slytherin seems a little easy though.

I enjoyed this chapter, but it seems to have raised far more questions than it answered. Hopefully we will get some answers soon!

Although, I don't know where the trope of Harry's fellow Gryffindors kicking him out/making life hell for him/hating him etc due to his being the fourth Triwizard Champion comes from.

Read the fourth book once more. They actually celebrated him, and how! Threw a party with drinks and food, shook his hand, thumped him on the back, gave him food, and congratulated him! They even draped a Gryffindor banner around his shoulders like a cape! They were this close to doing a round of "for he's a jolly good fellow!" too. And judging by all the stuff that was mentioned, they probably did that.
How much more does one have to do to show that they support the guy? Angelina (the person who had actually put her name in) actually swooped down on him and said "if it isn't me, at least it is a Gryffindor!" while Katie was all "Now you can pay Cedric Diggory back for that match last year!"
The only Gryffindor who actually had a problem with him being selected was Ron and that was because Ron thought Harry had not included him in his scheme to get into the tournament as a champion.
And let's be frank, Harry was itching to be a champion in the fourth book up until his name actually came out. He not only said as much out loud in front of his dorm mates, he actually dreamt of hoodwinking the impartial judge, being selected as champion and then holding the Triwizard cup and getting adoring looks from Cho freaking Chang while doing the aforementioned holding of the aforementioned cup! Those dreams were bordering on M rated too before they cut off.

Sure, the other houses had a problem with him being the second Hogwarts champion, but that was mainly jealousy. Gryffindor as a house was almost unanimously Team Harry!

So I really don't get all that angst about McGonagall doing nothing here.
