As far back in his life as Goro is, he's practically an OC, but you're making very good use of his background and narrative voice to portray a child expecting to be betrayed. I'm not sure how intense that would be if he's only been bouncing in the foster system for 2 years, but it's a consistent tone. I expect Sae to be largely non-present because she's got her own life to live, but I look forward to seeing how Goro's life changes as a result of becoming part of Makoto's family.

[Just to note: adoption is a long and paperwork-intensive process almost everywhere in the world, due to vetting of applying parents. This same scene could still happen, but the orphanage would know about them and have vague ideas about the parents and who they’re looking for due to exchanged communications during the paperwork and approval process. I like the way Goro is snuck in as an almost afterthought after other children, even vetted adoptions can go that way]
