Just be the voice of reason, Hedwig, being a snowy owl, isn't the fastest owl breed there is. The fastest- only flies twenty four miles an hour. As soon as Hedwig left the luggage car, she could not have kept up with the train, and would be chasing them for the better part of five hundred miles, or- twenty hours.(not possible without rest and feeding, so... two days?)
Jkr does not explain magical owl flight, so I refuse to believe these owls popping in and out like in books two and five. It's all BS.

The little blue car knew it was low on fuel and climbing towards the sun felt the increased magic of space. decided that it would try to "refuel" by breaching the atmosphere and allowing it's tanks to fill once more. where Ron who had decided that it was time for a nap after his 3rd dinner of the day was unaware, of the fact that it was not a good idea to be in an unsealed vessel that was entering the vacuum of space finely died that "very painful death"(death by sudden decompression is not a pleasant thing) that had been promised to all who visited the third floor corridor. (Harry and Hermione escaped such fate because they did death a favor by setting events in to motion that killed Flight-From-Death[Voldemort]).

"his infamous Prewett temper" Yay! Finally someone gets it! Of the two Weasley parents MOLLY is the one that like flying off the handle at the tiniest provocation. Arthur seems almost lethargic and incapable of a temper. Every time an author insists on the Weasley temper I get the idea that perhaps the Prewetts are so closely related to the Weasleys that there's almost no difference. They're purebloods, they definitely wouldn't mind. And would explain some of their collective behaviour. Like Orion Black and Walburga Black, née, er, Black. *blergh*

Yeah, installing wards is a good idea. I don't know what Hermione found about the Hogwarts wards in her favourite book, but they don't do anything, do they? The only thing in canon is an apparition ward ("You can't apparate in Hogwarts!"), that's lowered or adjusted for the apparition lessons. Oh, and a muggle notice-me-not ward of course. Can't have those filthy creatures crawling around now, can we? But do they do ANYTHING else?

They don't stop dark lords.
They don't stop their minions, even if they have that dark magic tattoo.
They don't stop dark artefacts.
They don't stop monsters, not even class XXXXX monsters.
They don't stop illegal animagi.
They don't stop violent behaviour of students.
They don't stop violent behaviour of teachers.
They don't stop violent behaviour of visitors.
They don't stop outgoing portkeys.
They maybe stop incoming portkeys, and Dumbledore is just allowed as headmaster to create them. But most probably not.
They don't stop access by broom.
They don't stop access on foot.
They don't stop students taken off the grounds against their will.

Even a weak notification ward that detects magical people at the Grangers' is more than what Hogwarts has. Because even if it's not possible to PREVENT all those bad things at Hogwarts, at least the headmaster should BE NOTIFIED about them so he can do something about it himself to protect the students whose lives are entrusted to him. Not that he would. That, however would be even worse but explain so much...
