iadorespike chapter 1 . 8/12 Ouch. Very introspective of James and interesting to see his thought process, but ultimately so sad. Thanks so much! |
deitarionSSokolow chapter 1 . 7/31 "James himself was only beginning to assert the Astral Plane, was only able to tune into the lowest of sub-planes nearest the Physical." OK, this introduction suggests you're straying too far from the feel and setting of HP canon... but in a completely novel way. Usually, when I get a sense that a story is threatening to lose me by spinning off into the author's idea to the detriment of it retaining its connection to Harry Potter, it's because the author decided to throw in high fantasy elements that erode the HP "strongly British contemporary fantasy" feel, like Tokien-style elves. "Voldemort liked to claim that bloodline mattered more than anything, but what glimpses James had ever caught during the monster's lapses in control – on the Physical and elsewhere – proved lie to those words. The once-a-man's actions were those of someone who believed most everything in society is an invention of mortal people and no law can actually stop people from doing anything and everything they want. That there's no absolute judgement or commandment that forces people to act in a certain way – that The Law isn't. His acts were those of someone who believed there is just an illusion of rules, enforced by people's beliefs. Nothing is true, his lies revealed. Everything is permitted, his tantrums screamed. There is no Absolute Law. 'Do as thou wilt' shall be the whole of the law." This reminds me of how Christians try to characterize atheists. Sadly, it's a very immature worldview because it boils down to "better to enshrine the flawed, unjust laws mankind's bronze-age ancestors were able to conceive of into the very cosmos itself than to accept the terrifying uncertainty embodied in accepting responsibility for our own fates". It is for that reason that I find there to be little more frightening than to imagine such cosmological systems actually being real, that we're forever trapped in a cycle of suffering and injustice. That it's not merely the force of billions of humans instinctively driven to continuance of the status quo, but that the cosmos itself is forcing it upon us. To me, the prospect of organized religion being correct is a far more terrifying cosmic horror than anything Lovecraft ever wrote, because Lovecraft wrote about beings and forces that rarely noticed us and only menaced us when we got caught under foot... religion makes claims of powers that, ostensibly, have had thousands or millions or billions of years of active interest and chose to steer us to this flawed, injust, suffering-ridden state we exist in. Anyway, as curious as I am about what happened to the Eye in volume 1, if this chapter is characteristic of what will come, it's just too far removed from the experience of reading a more ordinary Harry Potter fanfic for it to hold my interest. I'll give it a follow, but I'm not sure for how long. |
tfwk22 chapter 1 . 6/9 I love seeing something from James' viewpoint. I was absolutely entranced by the first piece and immediately came to read this. Your style of writing is so intriguing. I am in love with it. |
mannu-minnie chapter 1 . 5/30 omg, finally the sequel. YES! |
welcome007 chapter 1 . 5/28 looks good. can't wait for more. please update more. |
mumphie chapter 1 . 5/22 I wanted to thank you for allowing Sirius to be sane in part one of this series. I also wondered if Harry would ever find the Potter Astral Plane. Perhaps in a hidden chamber beneath the shed, or covered in grasses where the manor had been? And it is strange that NOTHING is left of that castle. There should be rubble, even if fiend fire had it's way. So, is it under some sort of glamour? If so, Sirius should see it, unless the heir is the only one. Riddles within circles. ah well. Good start. I hope your muse stays friendly, awake, and close by! |
christinemarie13 chapter 1 . 5/7 I won’t lie, much of this chapter goes right over my head lol. Maybe it’s how I process things (very much a visual learner), but all the talk about the planes and will and so on just doesn’t compute as well as I would like. I understand enough to enjoy the story but it’s tough to get through at times. Nevertheless I enjoy this universe you’ve created and can’t wait to see what happens going forward. And I lied in my last review, there was one other thing I’m hoping to see covered. Wormtail said James had burned Voldy up but he would have had to be dead already if things happened as everyone was led to believe. I suspect this chapter is leading up to an explanation of that (and possibly the grave anomaly) but I guess we’ll all see eventually. Thanks for sharing and I can’t wait to see more. |
