i’m not saying this to be mean or rude or to come off as anything but as a concerned literature student. but it’s just so weird to me how of all the things most twilight fanfictions retain about the source when making AUs, it’s the confederate!jasper callback reference. like sure, ignore the original characterization but this racist quirk origin stays just because. like why couldn’t they be lame closet nerds who were at a comic con or lame closet nerds who go watch video game tournaments and e-sports. you already established that, but decided to use it as a red herring instead. it would have made for some funnier dialogue too. and i’m not saying this as a personal attack or anything, i just want to say that smeyer might have given us the source but we’re way past that. we can do whatever the hell we want, and yet racist confederate jasper always fucking stays a trope! i’m sorry for the word vomit, i just realized this could be a fucking thesis.
