Great story. I like the pace.

I want to preface this review by saying that out of all your works, I’ve only read the first Black Queen book in its entirety and most of the second as well as this story on top of being a rank amateur at literary criticism. Despite that, there was something I wanted to say in the hopes that it isn’t repeated in this fic. As you are an infinitely more experienced writer on top of that, my criticism may even be completely nonsense or useless. That said, the reason I stopped reading the Black Queen series is because I felt it sacrificed character growth to defy convention. I was reading it on the archive of our own port so I was able to use control f to see particular spoilers and I was disappointed to see that Jen and Luna broke up. To me, this basically signified that Jen wouldn’t fundamentally change as a character to make their relationship work. It would have been a fairly generic way for Jen to change, yah, but my peeks ahead using control f didn’t make Jen appear much different. In my opinion, new and interesting characterization and world building are the strengths of fanfiction, not plot originality, although that is appreciated too. I’ve probably read hundreds of millions of words of fanfiction and while I couldn’t predict how exactly the Black Queen series would end, I don’t feel like I’m missing out by not finishing. What I was interested in with the character of Jen was always how she fit in with the wider world and how she would grow, not how she would defeat Voldemort in some new and novel way. While I can’t say how Jen’s relationships would change, I think I can guess that they don’t really change much, at least for the most part. By the point I reached in book two, there wasn’t much new characterization or character relationships to explore. As I mentioned earlier, Jen, in my eyes, proved incapable of fundamental change even if it meant breaking up with her love interest. It defied convention, but to the story’s detriment, I feel. Now, I feel awkward talking about a story that this review isn’t even attached to and that I haven’t finished, but I’ve been liking Spells in Silence so far and if my review can improve the story in even a minor way then I feel that I should try. If my criticism feels wrong or invalid, feel free to dismiss it.

With Hazel being able to apparate she could create some kind of home base, possibly in a central location, well-hidden (and as soon as she is able to add magical protections, she should do that too), and apparate there every evening to spend the night and apparate back to the last location in her travels on the next day.
That would be much safer than spending the night in unknown places and it would be rather practical too, if she has a place to keep some backup supplies.

really loving this story, can't wait for more. if you're having her become druid-like then maybe you can have her teach herself to use ogam the way most people have wizards using runes

If she ran into a Redcap, does this mean not all the Fae were imprisoned behind the Glastonbury Gate?

I wonder if she will be able to correct her sight (or more if she will figure out how, as she probably could theoretically do it).
I wonder how learning witchraft and magic like this will influence her ability to do wizarding magic later. I bet she will be good in potions since she is starting to connect to the magic in things.

Dang, that took a turn for the scary. A very good thing that Morgan was there, though as someone with glasses, I can honestly say that Hazel's predicament is a very scary one. I hope she can figure something out.

This is being an entertaining read, as is common for your work. Now that you've had see no evil and speak no evil, will your next Harry analogue be deaf?

Something I find myself wondering is whether she'll be able to speak parseltongue. We don't actually make the noises for hissing with our vocal chords, after all, so, depending on exactly how you interpret things, she might be able to speak it without any difficulty. Then again, with her current approach of projecting her thoughts, she could become a polyglot of animal tongues, should she spend a bit more effort on learning to understand their minds.

She doesn't seem to get Morgan's thoughts as easily as human thoughts intrude on her mind, but that could be less a matter of ability than of it occurring to her to try. I figure the odds are good that she has such a good read on Morgan's emotions partly through mental impressions as things are. I'd love to see her become a polymorph, as changing into a variety of animals was very much a druidic thing to do. In many legends, showing mastery of a number of alternate forms was one form of proof that a mage deserved the title of master/archmage/etc.

Well, even if Hazel's assumption she makes about magic regarding her glasses aren't exactly right, they nevertheless feel like the logical conclusion based on her knowledge. Looking forward to her learning more. :)
