Reviews for A Survivor's Tale
oghren chapter 3 . 7/2
Interesting chapter and story, I'm left wondering how everything will play out. I mean you already introduced 2 of the 4 factions and postponed joining them. Each has their advantages but if the MC does decide to help the minutemen then travel will be a main issue, unless the fallout versions of horses is introduced, motorcycles are repaired, or vertibirds are used. Besides that I'm looking forward to how you'll change the brotherhood in your story since Maxson seems like the reasons why they became so grey in a way. I'm also left wondering how the other companions will be introduced and used (besides the ladies), I mean will they journey with the MC a bit or will they ultimately stay in the background? All in all great job and keep it up.

Had to come back to read this even exactly a month after it being up. Such an excellent chapter, especially the Combat Zone descriptions give it so much more life. Your descriptions add so much more depth than Fallout 4 itself actually did.
Blaze1992 chapter 6 . 5/23
Surprised you didn't have Swan and the raiders battle it out.
ADeter chapter 4 . 5/8
That being said piper was basically right tho. its like its not a war crime if the good guys do it type deal and that's just the way it is. Oh good writing btw
Blaze1992 chapter 5 . 4/11
So basically your going for a smart-a** SS in this verse?
Blaze1992 chapter 3 . 4/11
It's simple it was the allowing the outcasts back in who then twisted and turned Maxon away from Lyon's ideals also they were the ones that killed off both Lyon's.
Blaze1992 chapter 1 . 4/10
Wait so he didn't find all the 10mm ammo in the vault nor the other pistols also there wasn't any dead wastelander at the end of the bridge with the pipegun?
hunter81095 chapter 4 . 4/6
Still loving it, especially Nate's beginning obsession with finding ALL THE ADHESIVE, but there's still some minor things that need pointing out.

Diamond City Guards wear catcher's gear for armor, as that would be in high supply in a major baseball stadium like Fenway, not football pads, so they should be "Baseball guards" not "Football guards".

"Getting down to brass tax" is "getting down to brass tacks", like little nails, not taxes.

As for Piper and her journalism, she never mentions that the Mayor is a synth, it's implied if you turn your head and squint, she recounts the Broken Mask and mentions that anyone could be a synth, McDonough is just the person mentioned in the article.

Although the funny thing is, she's right on both counts regardless, is it really yellow journalism if she's right?
hunter81095 chapter 3 . 4/6
I never got the comparison between the Nazis and the Brotherhood. They're not wiping out humans with race, ideological or sexuality based differences, they're wiping out Super Mutants (Of which there are 5 good ones from the East Coast strains, one of which is just slightly less hostile to people, one got cured, and the third was a freak occurence involving the Far Harbor fog), feral ghouls which, everybody wants wiped put anyways, and Synths.

Synths are dangerous, the Broken Mask proved that, at the very least they need to know they are synths so they can ensure their components dont malfunction, which the Railroad prevents by wiping a lot of their memories.

In pure practicality, the Brotherhood is the best choice for the Commonwealth, if only there was a way to save the Institute's facilities instead of destroying them.

I'm liking this first chapter, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest, but there are a couple of things I feel the need to point out.

Why did you feel the need to point out the dimensions of a holotape? Just say that Codsworth pulled out an orange and white rectangle, or that he pulled out a holotape, you make it sound like Nate pulled out a measuring tape before he took it from Codsworth.

Vault-Tec is spelled like that, not V.A.U.L.T-Tech.

Red Rocket Truck Stop sells coolant, not gasoline, it sells Class A and Class C coolant for nuclear powered cars.

A cartridge is the term for ammunition that hasn't been fired. The bullet is the part that fires out of the gun and the casing is what the bullet is attached to, the whole thing together makes a cartridge. "Ten rounds making a full cartridge" makes no sense.

There's also the technicality of the difference between a clip and a magazine, that being a clip is what's loaded into something like the M1 Garand, loading into an internal magazine. The 10mm pistol in Fallout 4 uses a magazine, not a clip.

That's not really that annoying, because everyone does that, but I felt like I should correct the rest of it.
Pinson Linson chapter 5 . 3/29
Excellent work, I really love the way you describe the world. It adds so much more immersion than any other fic I've read and it really makes it stand out. I cannot express how much I appreciate your thorough descriptions. They add so much god damn detail and I love it.

Awesome can’t wait for the next chapter
MASTER-OF-SUPRISE chapter 3 . 2/27
Personally I've always wondered why Maxson became a hardliner. I honestly think the death of Sara Lyons effected him. I don't think Maxson killed her. However it wouldn't surprise me if a hardliner did. Then the hardliners played the part of the caring siblings to influence him.

A lot of the feats I find in Maxson biography dubious at best. At worst they're fabricated. I also question the "ineffectual elders" actually being ineffective. I think that is actually the hardliners way of trying to keep any reformist movements out. I wonder how Nate will act when he meets a certain detective who proves the BOS wrong.
MASTER-OF-SUPRISE chapter 2 . 2/27
Well this should be interesting. I do have questions but I'm not sure I want the spoilers for the story. Is the Institute going to be more clear in thier goal? Cause that was one of the things that bothered me in Fallout 4 was how vague thier answers were.
Pinson Linson chapter 3 . 2/27
After this little detour, I expect Nate still to resume his search for his son, after all, he is "driven by the promise to rescue his kidnapped son". Excellent chapter. Thanks for writing.
