Reviews for Sword, Bow, and Horse
mikaerusan chapter 1 . 9/4
You describe the arrow that enters the wyvern's head as entering "up to the quivers" except that the only thing a "quiver" has in relation to an arrow is being the place they are stored for quick access on either the archers waist or back. I think you meant "fletching" here, if you were talking about the feather stabilizers.

- Musing
Something for down the road.
But could they make a Helm's Deep like defensive structure in the mountains between Alsace and Leitmeritz (just with the glaring defensive flaws fixed, see the YouTube analysis by "Shadiversity" as to what was done wrong, when humans "inherited" it from the Dwarves who originally built it.)

An emergency bolt hole for the Alsacian people.

Or even a regular fortress city, maybe like Al Alamut. They have the terrain for it. And if Ranma is aware enough of greenhouses like he was in your "Wild Wolf" story, than that can further bolster the food supply issue

- Technology share
Having mentioned the greenhouse idea above. And Ranma's ruminations on introducing pens, after having done so already with the abacus.

Does he know how lamellar armour and composite bows are constructed?

As the lamellar would be a definite step up from the leather jerkins and might be easier to make considering their resource availability than linen based gambesons.

- Training
Elen is forgetting one thing about the training. Yes, it takes a while to get to that level, but maintaining said fitness level is slightly easier than attaining it in the first place and said endurance will transfer into their regular lives as well.

Healthier and thus longer lives, being able to work more, when others would drop from exhaustion.

And long term, over a number of generations of this type of training, it ought to lead to a genetic shift that it'll make it easier to attain and you'll end up with a far hardier populace over all. (Similar to how the Elemental phenotype in Battletech tends to breed true even when engaging in regular copulation/breeding.)

- Cavalry Scouts
AFAIK, it is possible, but they'd need a drastic mentality change from what you've shown in this setting.

More Mongol/Hun/Tartar raiders, than a regular light cavalry approach. (You don't end up with empires like theirs by being incompetent or complacent.)

Ranma might've been able to install such a mindset by describing their tactics, but he's more of a Special Forces type and they're infantry based.

Although Elen still might want to develop such a force for her own use anyway.

*shrugs*

- Execution
Actually, if she REALLY wanted to give off the signal that she's back, large and in charge, so to speak. Then she'd pull a Ned Stark.

The one who condemns wields the sword.

Nothing quite says that one is displeased as personally executing your would be assassin by beheading them.

- Self aware
Wonder if Lim is introspective enough to realize that if Elen had followed her lead and tried to execute Tigre and Ranma, that Sasha would've still been at death's door and that they would've had a far more belligerent neighbour at their border.

- Traitors
So Spiritualist (most likely belonging to the clergy), Diplomat (unknown at present), Spy (considering that one voice was designated old. This may be the King's spy master, would further explain how well informed they are) and lastly Leader (considering the rings and his seeming ties to the royal court, he's apparently high up in the hierarchy).

- Dealings
I know that Valentina is a schemer, based on how you've portrayed her. But it would've served her better to be more direct with Sasha and less hinting/double talk.

Especially, if she'd been honest enough to admit that Sasha and the Prince would've made the ultimate power couple and would've rendered her own plans obsolete.

Sasha is aware, because of her admission that Valentina is a schemer, but honesty and genuine respect might've made her more amenable to an arrangement. (Plus throw her off her own game.)

Furthering this angle by admitting that she investigated the Prince's death and initially came to the conclusion that it was natural, but with Sasha's own poisoning having been revealed now.. Well, she's having second thoughts and is going to go through the results again.

This would've opened up a possible alliance with Sasha, as she'd want to know the outcome of the second investigation, so she can "chastise" the suspects.

Sasha has enough to do as is, delegating the investigation to Valentina would be the more effective and efficient move. Especially with members of the Court being obviously involved and Sasha doesn't have her own spy network in place there, unlike Valentina.

It would've been a win/win for both. And a possible foundation for a future alliance.

But that's the problem with schemers/manipulators a la a Dumbledore, they like their secrets too much and are loathe to share what they know, even if it'll benefit them more in the long run.

Plus they forget. Why bother with a lie or half truth, when the complete truth can be so much more devastating.

Pity really.

- Trophies
Thought occurred to me, did Tigre save/retrieve the dragon heads?

Setting aside that stuffed versions would be nice conversation pieces/heirlooms, they'd also serve as proof that they'd been brought into his lands as weapons of war by Duke Thenardier.

Even more readily apparent if neither species are native to Alsace. Might make some of the other Knightly Orders more willing to play ball as well or at least further their neutrality towards the Silver Meteors.

Might even convince Roland that he's been had and that neither Duke is fit to be king. Better a more just man like Roland, than either one of them, especially with the hints that Ganelon isn't human.

- Pondering
And on a completely different note. This story is the second one where you have Ranma and Jupiter have chemistry, but have things go bust through outside interference.

Will you ever do a story where she's knocked out of their particular reality together with him? (Thus also accidentally foiling Crystal Tokyo.)

Bit like you have Saeko following him to Kuoh in your DxD cross.

To use this story as an example, she could've ended up as a Viralt candidate and the whole mess that entails.

You've shown wind, fire and ice users. So another weapon being lightning based wouldn't have been that odd.

*shrugs*

- Riding
When Ranma was yanking Lim's chain about her riding him as a horse, he really should've mentioned that his name translates into Wild Horse to further along the imagery.

;-P

- Deities
More of a point out.
AFAIK, Ranma is closer to a Shinto-Budhist than a Monotheist. (And even then, it's closer to the agnostic side, than anywhere near monotheism.)

So why is he invoking God, the singular deity of the Abrahamic religions?

Seems rather OOC.
keichan2 chapter 4 . 6/26
I think your speech to text software was tired…

Twice, “Roland” became “Rowland”…

“And you will day for invading our nation!” And I think you meant “die”? :-)

I’m also quite sure you meant “cut Ranma” and not “Cat-Ranma” :-p

Anyway! Given Roland and before that Sasha, I get the feeling that Ranma will feel the need to train himself during the winter months… ;-)

Thanks for the new chapter (a bit late on my part…)

I hope to read more soon!
Roop Vishal Bathala chapter 4 . 6/26
Hope Roland lives in this fic, instead of dying like in canon

Damn, man. Why do you always make your chapters this long? I've seen actual books that were shorter. It took entire week to just finish it.
Cleaea chapter 4 . 5/19
Interesting and enjoyable read.

Thanks for writing mah dude or gal
Tonyorobsky chapter 4 . 5/19
While I enjoy most of your fanfics, I’m always irked by the fact that you often feel the need to boost someone to match Ranma (Destiny vs Chaos, Chaotic Space, Gods and Devils and Wild Horses...). Don’t use post-Saffron Ranma if you want him to be challenged. Come on! You had someone that had been sick and poisoned for a year without any training match him!
Mystery Melmoth chapter 4 . 5/16
Nice chapter, but the last quarter needs another pass through proofreading.
Ranmason chapter 4 . 5/15
you know the only thing I'm interested about this story is if something happens to sailor Pluto for doing that to Ranma. Every time someone uses her as a plot device like this she gets away with it and that always rubs me the wrong way.
WindbornesWord chapter 4 . 5/14
Oh I hope you didn’t have Ranma permanently blind Roland. It seems highly out of character for him to do something like that to what was essentially a good man being used as a cats paw. And I’m guessing Sofy is Ranma’s other girl potentially?
Crescent Pulsar chapter 4 . 5/14
"He grumbled, then slammed his own fingers into the same point Ranma had a second ago and instantly feeling returned to his hand."

While the battle between Ranma and Roland was a bit more contrived than I care for, this part is what went beyond what I can tolerate, which wasn't helped by the fact that Roland gets to use his sword again later, making this disarming pointless, thus this reversal of the pressure point that shouldn't have happened at all, and ultimately a poor — and perhaps premature — way to get Ranma and Roland to fight unarmed.

His ability to do this flies in the face of both canon and your own story. Pressure points require special training and knowledge in both cases; just pressing the same point shouldn't be an on/off switch. It was never that simple in Ranma 1/2, rarely used because not many had the ability and knowledge, and never once can I recall an instance where an action was repeated by anyone to get this on/off effect. In fact, I do believe that nearly all of them were all different.

Canon examples I can recall include: Tofu making Ranma lose the use of his legs, which Ranma didn't simply copy to turn off the effect, similar to how no one pressed the back of someone's neck to bring them back out of unconsciousness; Tofu pressing a pressure point during Ranma's battle with Mousse to endure hot water, which would only work one time ever; the true cure to the cat's tongue pressure point wasn't a pressure point at all; xi fa xiang gao shiatsu couldn't be undone with the same shampoo; the remote-control pressure point, which either wears off after a bit or after they fulfill their assigned task (whose counter is otherwise unknown); the pressure points used against Hinako, where re-application continues the effect rather than stop it; and something similar, the ultimate weakness moxibustion, required a different mark in a different location to cure.

It's made very clear that either a pressure point is unique even if it's a part of a structured style, where the same method to reverse/counter effects is hardly — if ever — the same, or it's specialized, requiring particular training and knowledge (and the specialization was clearly demonstrated in the beginning of your story). None of this makes me believe that Roland could have done what he did and succeeded, unless anyone could have done it and much of Ranma's training was inconsequential pageantry.

If you don't want the fight to be too one-sided, I get that. I can even understand the contrivance to make the outcome a close one, even if it makes me question the actions and decisions being made by the characters. But even beyond my disbelief that Roland can do what he did, you didn't even need to go so far to achieve what you did. I would be willing to believe that Ranma could have disarmed him early on in the fight without shiatsu, with an element of surprise and Roland still largely ignorant of what Ranma is capable of.
Kaiya Azure chapter 4 . 5/13
I wonder if Roland will be able to ask why Ranma is known as the "Living Trebuchet."
