Reviews for The Baron's Apprentice
Catsafari chapter 3 . 5/18
Cool story, bro. Needs more unicorns

Okay, on to the serious review... how dare you? oh, my heart, reading the monster tell Haru that she's not wanted, that they only took her in because they felt sorry for her and don't actually care... 'scuse me, I have a voice to go beat up. (I do like the use of white popular to represent time in flower language; that's a really neat little thing.) That just broke my heart, but the cute Haru/Baron scene afterwards helped put it back together... mostly. (I'll put down the pitchforks and torches... for now.) Can't wait to see what more you do with this AU! (*burns your caravan wheels so you have no escape*)
Catsafari chapter 2 . 3/26
Yass you got the “heeeeee’s cheating!” line in! XD Watching them all worry for Haru after her encounter with the fairies was wholesome af and adorable. (“Yer bleeding. That’s the exact opposite of ‘fine’.”) And Muta and Toto trying to make Haru feel better about her scars by discussing their own in a fun way... also adorable. All this wholesome content is just what the quarantine ordered :D

“Well, really they were just off out to run a few errands, but they were mages, and thus knew magic, so Haru assumed that every outing to them must be like some grand adventure.” I had to laugh at how adorably star-struck Haru is.

HE DID THE BANNISTER SLIDE WHOOP WHOOP XD (I was wondering how you were smoothly going to write that in, and it still surprised me when it happened. At least he sat on it with some level of dignity and didn’t clamber onto it the same way the Librarian did XD)

I spotted the Kraken there, sneaky sneaky. And the moving plant makes me think of Specimen 34, hopefully causing less chaos though, huh? XD And I see you found a good rain chant (you decided against my BBQ suggestion then XD). Haru’s panic over how the others would react was a nice touch, not overdone but enough to make it quite clear she has some emotional baggage haunting her.

Hehe, Toto using the term ‘raining cats and dogs’ and then apologising only to Baron feels like a nod to the manga. (I see what you did there!)

Honestly the only person who should be in trouble is the author of the spellbook who didn’t think to put the counter spell beside the original spell. Someone get that book an editor!

And I adore Muta’s conspirical “even baron made mistakes — but you didn’t hear that from me” line. In Haru’s defence, they did leave her unsupervised! XD
YarningChick chapter 2 . 3/22
This was a lovely, somewhat realistic view on what a teenager would do when alone in a house with spell books and knows it. This was hysterical!
hardstone55 chapter 1 . 3/22
Just finished reading the first chapter it's just what I needed during these hard times thanks so much
James Birdsong chapter 2 . 3/22
Good chapter
James Birdsong chapter 1 . 3/13
Cool
YarningChick chapter 1 . 2/2
Aaawww! This was adorable! And although I would have loved to have them play out the 'by the way, I'm planning on marrying you' bit, it was a lot less awkward that they didn't. Maybe that's Baron's plan anyway, maybe not, but Haru will ultimately appreciate being allowed a say in the matter.
Rowena Bensel chapter 1 . 2/2
Awwww! So sweet! And cute! I am totally down for this AU, I can't wait to see more, if more is to come. I suggest, if you are pulling more from the series, Louise and Sephie need to be Angelica's counterpart. Great job!
Catsafari chapter 1 . 2/2
Ahhhh this is too sweet, even with Haru’s unfortunate beginnings! I appreciate all the references (the Wolf 359 one got me cackling, and now I need to relisten to that show, and I spotted the Voice) and how polite Baron was to Haru all through this, making a point of making her feel safe given how she comes to work as his apprentice. (Hehehe “Baron Von Cheesy Lightshow” I might have to borrow that sometime.)

Also I feel like Muta and Toto playing UNO would be fatal. It can be such a bloodthirsty game, it’s perfect for them XD (Toto: heeeee’s cheating!) I feel like Haru might need some practice before she plays against them two without Baron (I feel like Baron is the only one keeping the game somewhat civil...)

I like the image of Baron making the chains vanish with a tap of his cane (then again, I am a sucker for dramatic cane hijinks)

I vaguely remember the first ep of Ancient Bride, so I can recognise the general plot is taken from that, but I’d love to see what direction this gets taken in if it goes any further. I vaguely recall the fairies being tricky, but it was still a surprise/fun to see their presence shifting from benign to malignant. (And that bear skull looks familiar, hmmmmm) I like how Haru regained her senses from the Voice’s influence before Baron saved her, giving her that strength of mind that we all love her for (and will only grow the more time she spends with Baron, I’m sure)

Loved this, hope it continues! If it doesn’t, then this is a lovely little oneshot, but I shall hope! :)
