Guest chapter 1 . 8/9 Firetrail, here's a helpful hint: if your review of a work spends most of its time talking about you and barely touches on the piece, then it's not a review, it's masturbation. The story was over 60 chapters long when you posted your "review," but all you read was the first chapter (if that) before deciding it would be a good place for your lecturing and ego insertion. The story's hardly perfect; I'm not too fond of the idea that the only way to redeem Xander is to get rid of almost every single aspect of him. But overall this is an interesting story and is exploring some aspects of the show's mythology. It's also done some interesting things with the characters that I don't fully agree with, but it's still entertaining and keeping me interested. Interested enough to defend the story (and, by extension, the author) from what seem like attempts to silence them. Don't like it? There are plenty of other stories around. Want to lecture people about your own personal identity issues? Find your own place to do it. There are a whole lot of us who want to see where this story's going. And if it doesn't suit you... oh, well. |
Guest chapter 54 . 6/25 Confusing chapter . I kind of feel like this story is really diffrent now that what I first read. |

Firetrail chapter 1 . 6/12 This story died for me in the opening preface, it just practically screams at me that your going to preach to me about my wrong think. And I don’t need more of that in my life as a trans woman I constantly get told I’m wrong is some way or another, whether is other trans people telling me I’m not trans enough, or other woman telling me I’m a man, Or lesbians telling me I’m not actually gay. Which is a real shame since a lot of your reviews seem positive. But another reviewer also made a statement I agree with, apparently you’ve been deleting comments that either (disagree with you?) or flame you and thats wrong, flamers are generally bad and stupid, it’s immediate obvious since they usually have poorly though out reasons for their dislike or just spew hate, it’s comical you get a slight chuckle and move on. The fact that you go out of your way to delete them further show to me that all you want to do is preach (or vent and this should not be the place if you want to write a good story) not entertain. And because of all this I will not read it. If these aren’t your intentions then I recommend that you dump that opening or reword so its not as insulting to the character, he’s not perfect, nobody is and he grows and learns from his mistakes, but Xander is probably one of the better written and definitely the most grounded of them. |
firemaster101 chapter 51 . 6/10 Er I'm guessing Slayer dream. |
firemaster101 chapter 50 . 6/8 Really enjoying this fic . Glad to see some heyena recognition. |
Guest chapter 50 . 5/17 OK, this former FBI agent having the same last name as Willow is just one huge honking Chekhov's Gun. I might have to go back and reread the whole story (gosh, what a burden) and see if any character's commented on it. And I know I'm seriously into a story when I find myself wanting to add to it. * * * * * Before leaving, Giles bent down to look Rosenberg in the eye. "We're leaving you here, bound and unarmed. And yes, we are fully aware that it would be better, strategically speaking, to kill you to keep you from potentially interfering with us. So know that we are not doing so as a choice." After a pause, he continued. "And since you'll have plenty of time to think while we're gone, I suggest you consider this: review those deaths and disappearances you've tied us to, and look at them from the theory that they represent not our successes, but our failures. If you are as honest and intelligent as you like to think you are, you might find it at least plausible - if not actually more probable than your own conclusions. And remember that no one has a monopoly on being on the right side." With that, he turned and followed the rest of the Scoobies. |

JoeNobody chapter 2 . 4/20 (Latest) Guest, the author has removed the "Guest" review I was responding to. Obviously I can't prove it, but the original "review" I was responding to was worth all the scorn and contempt I provided, and more. Personally, I don't like deleting these kinds of reviews, as I don't like letting the jerks who post them just have their idiocy erased, but it's not my story and the author's prerogative, and I won't argue with their decisions. My reasons aren't necessarily anyone else's. Just let me stress this: the harshness of my response was more than justified. |
Guest chapter 1 . 4/17 JoeNobody Honestly it sounds like you’re bitter about Guest reviewer in my opinion. All while being a hypocrite and petty yourself insulting the other person with a condescending tone, well it seems to me that you’re in full-lecture mode and you come across as a person who likes to show off and act superior because you may or may none have above average ability to spell correctly and have grammar, what about the next time you say something like that who has genuine reasons to have incorrect and inconsistent spelling and grammar and it’s because they have something like dyslexia or they can’t afford or don’t have the resources to learn English as their second language, or if they’re illiterate? I guess you would say to those people that they should just stop being special snowflakes who cry about their problems on the internet, maybe it’s because they don’t have anyone to talk to so they lash out which isn’t right either, although I’m curious to see how are your own actions better? Instead of teaching, you spread ignorance and hate, but, what do I know I’m just a rando on the internet. |
JoeNobody chapter 46 . 4/13 Now that that's out of the way, how about an actual review? This story had quite a few strikes against it for me. For one, that whole word salad about "queer theory" and gender in the preface immediately set a "you ignorant idiot, I'm gonna educate you" vibe. The first job of a fiction writer is to entertain, and lecturing is rarely entertaining. Next, I happen to think Xander is one of the better characters in BtVS. He is the only one who keeps his essential humanity and mortality and normalcy all through the entire series. He's the most balanced and successful in the "normal" world, and in your story he's treated as a garbage character. Admittedly at the time the story is set he still had a lot of growing to do, but you've essentially denied him the chance to grow and mature and find his own way. Then there's how you've fallen into the "everyone is secretly gay" pitfall. So you've decided that Tara and Willow shouldn't be together - that's fine. It's been done, and it can work. But to keep them both happy and clearly gay, they need different partners. But both Buffy and Anya are thoroughly established as solidly heterosexual characters (the Buffy-Faith dynamic aside), and you end up with the only heterosexual character being Giles. Unless you want to introduce an element that somehow links homosexuality with Slaying and helping Slayers, it's just a bit odd. (Hmm. You could put that on the Watchers' Council. They could have tried to manipulate the Slayer's Gift to downplay their sexuality to get them to focus more on their job and keep them from finding outside interests from the Watchers, but could have messed it up and instead changed it to an expression of homosexuality. Then they decided to let it slide because at least they reduced the chances of their Slayers getting pregnant. Maybe...) And one minor flaw: at one point you said Faith was 8 inches taller than Lexi. Eliza Dushku is 5'5", and Anna Kendrick is 5'2". No need to make their height difference so dramatic. Anyway, with all that out of the way, you've still whipped up a compelling story. Lexi is a hell of a good character. (I just wish we hadn't had to lose Xander to get her.) Willow as "a big ol' lesbo werewolf" is a fun twist. The idea of the Initiative, the FBI, and the Watchers' Council all fumbling around each other highlights the problems with "shadow cabals." Plus, it's just plain FUN. My only regret so far is that I didn't skip this story until it was finished, 'cuz this waiting is annoying. Please, keep it going! |
JoeNobody chapter 1 . 4/13 That last "review" definitely needs to be answered. Buttercup, if you're so delicate that a work of fan fiction can "make you want to cry and throw up and be sick," you definitely need to seek professional help and find a safe space. Preferably with padded walls. So what if you're a "Trans Man?" There are no Protected Classes (or, at least, shouldn't be), and we don't have to pad all the sharp edges in the world. The rest of us don't need that level of protection. We don't define the world by the weakest common denominator, and Your Feelz don't give you veto power over anything. Don't like this? Don't read it. It really is that simple. I was going to ask why you capitalize "Men" every time, but then I realized I really don't care. Because you'll quite likely seize upon that as an excuse to go into Full Lecture Mode, and I don't have the patience for that. Not even now, when most of us have literally nothing better to do. BTW, if you can't deal with learning about The Real World (see? I can do Random Capitalization too!), crack open a grammar book. "Men who are raped by a Women?" Learn a little about verb-subject agreement. "A" means "singular," while "women" is plural. It should be either "by women" or "by a woman." And that's hardly the least of your Word Crimes here. Go take your petty, quixotic crusade here, and let people have their fun. Nobody's keeping you here, snowflake, and quite a few of us would volunteer to help you find your way out. |
