Really like this chapter here with the introduction of the Sentinels and having the horror of looking at the ships power source. Wonder what caused the scientist, the AI and Mirallia to be like that suddenyl when talking about it though. I guess it is the mysterious Void that they saw or hear and the tap tap at the end wonders if the Man in the Wall will make an appearance. Reminds me of a Lovexraftian Horror in a way with how these characters had reacted in a strange and horrific way.

I do like how you mentioned fishing with Umbra earlier in the story and the Sentinels fishing as well. Seems like the Sentinels are used to Umbra's hobby of fishing. I do find it relaxing in a way when I read it because it is something away from all the chaos of the invasion and kind of allows for some more relaxing moments in the story. Bet Umbra will be quite sad when the fishing spots disappear due to the glassing. Perhaps before that happens he could introduce Noble Team about fishing if they got the free time, is unlikely but I can imagine Jorge doing it when I think about his personality. I hope he does not die though in this story as I find him to be quite a likable character that I always find it tragic when he does die.

I do look forward to seeing the Sentinels in action more and the canon divergence that will come next chapter and I wonder what will change exactly. Will be interesting to see when the Prophets stop underestimating Umbra and perhaps give him a nick name like Master Chief being known as Demon by the Covenant. Will be quite horrifying to the Covenant when they can't stop the honourable killing machine Umbra.

I really like well written ‘in-between’ chapters like these. They provide a good slow pace to a generally fast paced story. Not to mention, each chapter flows pretty well into each other. There is no abrupt change of pace in the story, something I greatly appreciate in a story I am really invested in.

So, looks like ONI is trying to study and research the tech in the orbiter. Expected, obviously. And looks like they found some pretty interesting tech of the Warframe universe. I have always found the foundry unit in Warframe to be under appreciated. I mean, making weapons, equipment and even entire warframes, using only a blueprint and the raw materials, in a matter of hours to days is seriously impressive. Something Alken has noticed. Also, I am guessing the unknown material Mirallia and Alken are referring to is Oxium. Lighter than air, but super tough.

Also looks like they didn’t heed Umbra’s warnings. Messing with the infestation will not end well. This may make you question my mental state, but I laughed a little when that lady scientist got ripped in half. I mean, didn’t she notice the infestation reacting negatively to her intent to tear the door down?

However, the infestation is a tame pet compared to the other sin aboard the orbiter. I would rather have ONI mess with the infestation than the Void. Because at least the infestation will kill you quickly. The Void will warp your mind turn you insane. And looks like the paradoxical nature of the Void has affected everyone in that ONI room. Even the ‘dumb’ AI Mobeius. Loved how even the dumb AI could only spout lines similar to Cephalon Cy when he tries to observe the Reliquary Drive. Be careful, Agent Mirallia, trying to observe a paradox can be dangerous.

Just one minor correction needed in the chapter-
“Yet three figures had their minds preoccupied with other affairs, as they stood inside a communication room awaiting the call from their .” A word is missing here. From their Leader? Superior?

They're really just modifiers. Empowered by the void. How else would slapping a mod make a weapon fire 2 arrows at the same time in the same angle? Or having extra ammunition in the magazine despite having the same size as the unmoded magazine? Or even setting things on fire, poison, electrified, frozen/slowed?

Another example is how endo would level up those mods. It looks more like the Endo is some sort of a mini void container. Empowering mods and stuff.

And this is my guess for the Argon Crystals: Void corrupted Rubedo or Ferrite.

You know... Of Umbra was looking at Reach as the Plains of Eidolon, then he should have realised that he should have used Archwings for transport. He didn't need to call for a Warthog to pick him up. He could have told Kat and Six to rendevouz with him at Sowed base with him flying in with a teleporting Archwing and providing arrival support with laser firing drones to both mainly distract the Covenant so that the Spartans and Marines have more breathing room and pick and kill their targets easier. Umbra could even just have cloaked while hovering above the Covenant and kept summoning more and more drones whenever their numbers were depleted... Meanwhile, he would be raining Tonkor destruction death from above like Pharaoh from Overwatch. He could even shout "Death, rains from above!" or something like that too...

Yes! At long last! They finally meet. I have been eagerly anticipating this preordained meeting. I have loved Halsey ever since I first saw her in "Halo Legends: The Package". I never appreciated how she got scapegoated in Halo 4 and beyond. How come ONI and the UNSC didn't get in trouble too for allowing the Spartan II project to proceed? I hate it when people scapegoat someone. It's not like Catherine Halsey did it all by herself either. But they conveniently "forgot" about that fact.

Even through the glass, and even with her decidedly human heritage and countenance, Umbra felt a familiar chill in his spine as he gazed at the woman. It was something he had felt in the presence of only one other type of person.

She's also to the Spartans what Margulis-Lotus-Natah is to the Tenno. Something I wished Umbra to pick up on. Maybe even raise some nostalgic feelings in him.

At any rate, this was an enjoyable chapter with some character and plot development. It was nice to finally see Umbra cut loose almost all of his true power. Carthatic really. Can't wait for him to use his Exalted Umbra Blade for the first time in the Halo universe. Especially those Exalted Void Energy waves too. Fumaneas an interesting addition too. I wonder what she'll bring to the story. Her addition is interesting as we don't see female Elites in combat until Halo 5, thanks to the Arbiter's reforms of their patriarchal society to have more gender equality. It be interesting if you send Umbra to team other Spartan IIs and IIIs around Reach and not just Team Noble exclusively. Maybe he might even encounter Spartan 117 early. Would be funny if to include Spartan 1337 too lol! Will you save Spartan James from suffocation in space I wonder? Will you give Umbra an AI of his own too? Or will Halsey or ONI make one using his brain? Would be weird if the latter happened lol!

How are these weapons being equipped onto Umbra? Don't they just materialise and dematerialise as and when needed or not? So it shouldn't be happening manually, non? Kinda like how weapons and other equipment are seen materialising and dematerialising in the Orbiter's Arsenal. Or on combat when your unequipped weapons are set to "invisible" and you switch weapons. Or maybe I am wrong... Although I like the imagery you used the inside of the Liset lander. Very vivid.

How is the Liset able to pilot itself without a Cephalon to handle the piloting as per usual? I don't think this was explained. Especially since Umbra had to manually fly it to the LZ instead of having his Cephalon do it for him. What is someone tried to shoot it down? How will it adapt to a rapidly changing situation without a guiding intelligence such as Umbra himself or his Cephalon? Is the Cephalon dead or just in "Standby mode?" Did he get rid of them or kept them due to holding sentimental value? Mayhaps I missed this...

Hmm, could you also have Umbra use the Lenz compound bow? Would be cool seeing those domes that look like Frost's snow globes and the inevitable detonations lol! He Covenant and non-Covenant enemies and their vehicles getting snap frozen, followed by the inevitable exploits would be satisfactory. He could use a Sentinel to cloak him and then use the Lenz, and his enemies would be none the wiser as to where he's attacking from. They would be too busy being distracted by the killer snow globes. The main advantage of the Lenz will be the innate ammo mutation and the crowd control it provides with the Freeze and Blast procs to name a few pros.

Just have a doctor standing by with their support staff so they can immediately give you an operation and fix you right up like nothing at all! It's probably nothing but... You should probably have someone capture and baby Xenomorph. It will have some of your human DNA and lead to the creation of a human-Xenomorph hybrid... Probably nothing but if it survives the kill squad then just order Exterminatus upon its filth! If it survives all that then just raise it to be your assistant. It was blasphemous to give a name like that to something that seemed to side with humans. Heretical.

Lol! For some reason I was expecting for him to say, "I condemn you to... Exterminatus!" I guess it must be a Pavlovian response to whenever I see the words "blasphemous", "heretical" and how they remind moi of the word "sacrilegious" too. It somehow always nostalgically reminds moi of "Exterminatus" lol

The two brothers took a moment to absorb those words, before Sedo pushed himself up with no small amount of effort, and all three brothers began once more to head to their exfiltration.

So what did they do with the Marine they took hostage? Torture him for information? Killed right away after they made their escape? Or shockingly enough... Let him live?

The years had not been kind to the ship. Maintenance and repairs certainly could help keep it up to specs and ready for anything. But he hadn't been able to reach drydock in quite a long time. Even before coming to this world.

He needs to capture an Engineer from the Covenant or a Forerunner facility. Then have it repair his Orbiter. Not that it will require much convincing, especially since the Warframe, Excalibur Umbra and his Orbiter use never before seen technology on the Halo universe. Hopefully, it may either create a new Cephalon using his mind or that of another donor, or it can repair his old Cephalon and give his Orbiter's computer systems much needed protection from outside AI/Oracle/Ancilla influence.

How he would assist, however, was another thing altogether. How could he better offer his skills? Operating alone was something Umbra did for centuries, yet most likely the UNSC would not allow it. A tactic asset like him would most likely be monitored, to either make sure his allegiance was legitimate or to eliminate him should he show signs of joining the Covenant. An unfounded fear, but justified.

Ahhh, I see now... So this story is basically like those missions in Warframe where the Tenno can choose to support either the Grineer faction or the Corpus faction. Only this time it's the UNSC faction. But since Tenno are mercenaries by nature, I wonder what he will buy with UNSC credits and whether or not he will help the Insurrection factions and other independent or neutral human factions.

"Umbra, this is Noble One" came the somewhat crackly voice of the leader of Noble Team through the damaged radio. "We're approaching Reach FLEETCOM Headquarters. We'll mark the landing point for you, and they'll take you to Colonel Holland.

Whoa! The humans trusted a Warframe enough to take him to their Fleet HQ?! How bold of them! How quaint! It's a good thing no one paid Umbra enough credits to take out the UNSC presence on the planet. A faction like the Covenant or other human factions who see the UNSC as their enemy could most certainly use an independent hyper lethal vector such as Umbra as an expensive Mercenary to do their bidding... For some loot, fashion frmlame and rewards, credits or otherwise.

Perhaps too much faith in humans, non? Humans can be evil too. Just look at the state of the Origin system. This way of thinking is a little naïve and could lead to him being easily manipulated or having a somewhat gullible nature. Surely he hasn't forgotten what Humans did to the Tenno already has he? And what the remnants of humanity still do to captured Tenno still, at present? Has he forgotten how Corpus experiment on Warframes/Tenno? Or how Grineer wish to either enslave or use continuity on them and thus quite literally overwrite their minds with their own like with the Twin Queens? If anything he should be wary of these humans since they're an unknown factor. Fear of the unknown and all that. Not that he should have anything to fear from them, but at present he has no reason to believe they aren't leading him into a longitudinal lure/trap to lower his guard. What if they have something that can defeat a Warframe? But at least he's not completely trusting them entirely either based on his desire to arm himself in their territory, and thus not throwing caution to the wind.

They could even hide a Smart AI in his Orbiter's systems to spy on him.

Wait... Tenno body is still alive but something happened that is prevented him from either returning to it or manifesting it? Unless this is actually been just Umbra all along but without a connection to his Tenno Operator. I initially thought that the Tenno and Excalibur Umbra had merged to become one personality. But then I remembered that the Tenno are immune to that unlike the other Orokin who tried transference for too long and got stuck in their host. Hence why only Tenno can safely use transference and why the Orokin use them as sacrifices for their Continuity like what the Twin Queens almost did in the War Within. So then this must mean the Tenno and the Warframe never merged as that's impossible and as a result the Tenno must either be dead or incapacitated in some kind of coma or something... Leaving Umbra to take up his Tenno Operator's "Mantle of Responsibility" so to speak... With none the wiser too. Kinda like with the whole Rap, tap, tap thing.

Umbra stared at the space the images had occupied, before calmly reaching onto a pocket on him, retrieving from it his pipe and a lighter stone. The two UNSC representatives watched as the Warframe lit the pipe with a spark, and then with differing levels of surprise as his jaw split into two to accept the pipe. The moment dragged, before the Warframe breathed a cloud of smoke onto the air. Suddenly, the cloth visor parted in two, finally revealing in full the helmet of the Tenno, and the four glowing blue eyes beneath it.

Ha! Lol! What is this effortless edgelord vibe Umbra is radiating! Ara Ara Ara Umbra-kun. I love how he casually revealed what his visor had been hiding all along. As well as that jaw. My god! What a loveable dastardly anti-hero! He had moinat his maw casually opening to receive his pipe. At first I was curious, now I am enthralled and avidly awaiting for "surprises" from Umbra. Well, mostly how third parties will react when more of his secrets are revealed as well as how he will react to their secrets. With friends like these...

"… Six" was his answer, and even though Umbra would not push for more, he did see the disappointment and even annoyance upon the stares the rest of Noble gave him.

Oh darn it! Even in this AU Six refuses to reveal his True Name. Susaga Six! Even I am sharing in the rest of Noble's disappointed lol.

Yet it rung out regardless. Dry, echoing, knocking against the walls of the reactor and outwards from it.

It was a very familiar sound to the living.

That not omnious at all. So I am guessing it's the "Man in the Wall" huh... In a universe where no Tenno sacrificed their existence to holding back the Void from entering this reality. The fact that Umbra can still use his Void powers means the Void is already affecting the Halo Universe too... Welp! Hopefully the Flood don't make Tenno-Flood pure forms with Void powers too... Thanks to "The Man on the Wall" doing it to spite Umbra or by accident or something...

Still, here we go. Quicker chapter, no action, just debriefing. Was gonna have Umbra and Holland discuss their worlds in actual text, but honestly that'd be a pretty boring and always-done type of thing, so skip to the end. Better that way.

Yeah, thank the Grofit Void you didn't add that cliché. It's truly overdone by this point. A summary/brief overview is truly a suitable and agreeable substitute for backstory exposition such as this. Or to put it another way, just like a certain song has lyrics that say "just skip to the good bits".

At any rate, I thouroughly enjoyed the chapter. I like how you've cracked up the creepiness factor of ONI agents to 11 on a scale of 1-10 lol. Highly appreciated. It makes it seem like the ONI agents are about to pull of some nasty trick at any given moment. Then present an unpredictabilityness to the story as a whole whenever their agents enter the scene. I like that. They force Umbra to be more cautious and more threatening just to show he's no pushover either. I wonder if the remnants of his shipboard Cephalon will be discovered. If they do, ONI will quickly notice the similarities between a Cephalon and a Smart AI due to both being created in a similar manner that requires a living brain as a donor, willing or not.

Nani?! Wait a minute. Hold up! Since when do Warframes let enemy bosses/mini-bosses escape? With a hostage too who'll probably be tortured to death. But before all that, how come an Excalibur Umbra isn't using Radial Howl to blind the Elites? It seems like you let them deliberately get away to stick to canon, unless I am mistaken. This would have been an opportunity to show how things can go differently when a Warframe is introduced to the Halo universe.

Also, I have been thinking... Radial Howl doesn't affect allies negatively. Think of Ember, and how she can use World on Fire and all her fire elemental based skills without harming fellow Warframes, their pets/companions as well as any humans in Rescue missions. Think of Nekros and how his Fear only affects enemies and not allies, Warframe or not. Think of Volt and how his Electricity can overcharge ally shields onto of boosting their abilities. Think if how these abilities can be used on a spaceship without blowing a hole in it. Evidently, this suggests that the Tenni can control who gets hit by their AOE, or other, abilities. It's basically slave Void magic.

They are able to determine who's an ally and who isn't. Think of how Trinity can only buff allies and not her enemies. Wouldn't it be weird if she healed allies? So how come Radial Howl affected Noble Team earlier? Was that display just so that the Elite Field Marshal and his squad of Zealots could get away like in canon? A Warframe like Excalibur Umbra should have made shot work of them with all his Warframe abilities, nevermind any Tenno abilities, assuming he can still use them after the implied mysterious loss of his Tenno body. Could it be this is your attempt at nerfing the Warframe's abilities by forcing Excalibur Umbra not to use them near allies when normally Warframes are perfectly able to do that safely? Isn't this why Tenno were given Warframes so that there would be no repeats of an ally being burnt like Margulis? It doesn't make sense... Even Volt is able to use his 4th ability in the cinematics without killing his aalies. Nevermind the Rhino Stomps that happen in melee range of his allies in the Cinematics too. So I don't understand why this is like this. Am I missing something here?

Could it be that his Tenno body is lost to and being used by the Worm Queen? It seems like the other Queen died in this AU. But the loss of his Tenno body could possibly be from partially failing the War Within and having his body stolen from him, oui?

But I digress, at any rate, this chapter tlwas awesome otherwise, it would have been more awesome if Umbra used his frame abilities more besides Channeling Void Energy into his blade and having to worry about running low on it. Otherwise, what the point of Energy Siphon? But all in all I like how you've stayed true to how Noble tend to behave. But maybe break away from canon more tonshokw off how a Warframe can affect or alter the outcome of the Fall of Reach and the rest of the Human-Covenant war moving forward. I imagine on e ONI and the UNSC higher ups learn of Umbra they'll inevitably see him as an invaluable asset. ONI will probably want to study him aomthey can replicate Warframes and their abilities in a new Spartan program. The UNSC will probably just want to deploy him where needed and he can be most effective and help them repel the Covenant. That and when they learn Warframes can revive, they will wanna use him more for Suicide missions where he'll little to no help at all. They could have him do Operation First Strike solo kinda on a suicide mission like the Spartan III doomed mission/pyrrhic victory. Once they see how much of a hyper lethal vector a Warframe is, they will wanna either get on his good side or coerce him to side with them. Maybe even blackmail or manipulating him. ONI can't be trusted afterall. They might even give him an AI/Spartan attaché to secretly keep an eye on him since he's an unknown and his physiology is quite alien to how they understand humans. Especially since he's quite literally a cyborg. They could even use him against the FLOOD since even the Infested can't get past a Warframes immunity unless they do what they did to Mesa and replace her internal organs/parts with Infested ones so that the Warframe is quite literally a shell of its former self. I imagine the Gravemind would do that telepathy thing like on Halo 3 where it forced Chief to walk at a snails pace when he sees flashes of Cortana. Kinda like in the Nidus farming nodes on Warframe and how if you're not careful the Infested starts communicating to you too busy debuffs you simultaneously. You could do something like that.

I can't wait for him to fight the Hunters though. Or the Scarabs. Or even to fall into a Lekgolo best and have to fights gigantic Worms like a raid boss. Maybe they will even make a Lekgolo warship? Of he could ally with one or infect it with the Helminth Infestation on his ship... He could have an army mind controlled Lekgolo. And of he could capture and Infest an Engineer, then he could have one or more fix his ship and maybe even his Cephalon. This is the Halo universe. Flying around with a ship that lacks a shipboard Cephalon/AI is tantamount to suicide as they can just hack Umbra's ship and disable it, leading to its capture or destruction. Nevermind what Forerunner Ancillas would and could do to Umbra's ship.
