Great job with this. Your version made it a little bit more barrable for him, but that last year must have been torture for him. With the exception of talking to the portraits, he was flying completely solo. If he were to become ill, there wouldn't be able to easily get any kind of help. He was screwed in so many ways.

You hinted that he's going to die here! Nooooooo! Why?! This is simply so painful. I wished Minerva did not call him a coward before the final showdown— I can feel Severus' pain and loneliness more than ever with this fic it reminded me how he saved a lot of people who shunned him and died a gruesome death.

Very sweet and sad story. Though the part with Minerva figuring out the not-betrayal seems a bit clumsy, the rest was very nicely done. I love those heartbreaking interactions. There should be more fanfics like this.
