animaprincess1 chapter 18 . 3/14 As a person who usually reads nonfiction, this was a fun, escapist novel. Relate-able characters plus enough intrigue to hold my attention and make me want to discover where they were going. Thank you very much for this! I love this so much! Found you in Penelope's story. |

Athenais Penelope Clemence chapter 18 . 2/28 God works in mysterious ways. In this AU Mary Queen of Scots seems to be a better version of herself. I don’t think it is a surprise for you that I am fond of Elizabeth, but not of Mary Stuart. However, I like how you wrote her in this chapter, and I’ve grown fond of the pairing Henry Francis/Mary Stuart just as I’ve been fond of the pairing George/Margot for a long time while reading this story. The Earl of Moray, Mary’s brother, seems to be far more loyal to her than he was in history when he eventually turned against her, but he had his reasons. I like the first meeting of Mary Stuart and Henry Francis. God, you know I love the name Henry-Francis, and I wish more authors write some stories in which Henry and Francis are allies and have their children marry each other. It seems to me that both Mary and Henry Francis were charmed from the first meeting. The fact that he traveled without George’s permission indicates that Henry Francis is actually very interested in this match. I’m very glad to learn that Margot and George had more children after Henry Francis. Margot had several miscarriages and stillbirths, and these things were so tragic in previous chapters. I’m glad she produced three more girls and one more son. I suppose Princess Madeline was named in honor of Margot’s late sister Madeleine, Queen of Scotland, and Prince Charles Edward was named in honor of Edward IV and Duke Charles d’Orléans. Elizabeth Tudor… I am glad that she is alive and has many children with Robert Dudley. But I love her as a queen very much, although I know that it a different alternate reality novel. IN any case, I am happy that Elizabeth and Robin are happy together! Even though Elizabeth is Duchess of Pembroke in her own right and Dudley is just an earl, I think that she is a dominant figure in their marriage, which she indirectly implies in one of the scenes. I’m very happy that George and Margot are so deeply in love. George is his father’s opposite in the way he treats women. Margot is indeed his only love, the love of his life, and despite their five-year old difference, when she is older than him, George has always loved her. I think that he was always faithful to Margot and only to her. Is that right? If George had ever had a mistress, then it must have happened before his marriage to Margot. After he gives her flowers, he takes Margot to bed despite knowing that they will not have another child, as she told him. The duel between Henry Francis and Lord Darnley is hilarious. Lord Darnley’s underhanded and nearly murderous actions were stopped by Henry Francis, and Mary will not forget that. I liked how you added the leader of the Scottish traitorous men was the Earl of Bothwell into the mixture and had him defeated – glad that Henry Francis is now King Consort of Scotland. Lord Darnley had attempted to abduct the Queen Mary? I think that it is entirely possible, but I can see that this new trouble only strengthened the love between Mary and Henry Francis. In this AU, their son Prince James will unite England and Scotland. Queen Annette of Spain – this sounds unusual for me. So, she seems to have had a good relationship with her stepson Carlos who was considered mad and violent due to what we now call inbreeding. I’m glad that Annette has several children with Philip of Spain, and I am sure she will take care of Carlos’ wife and their daughter. And Carlos died in Annette’s arms… I think that it is implied he was poisoned by Philip because the man feared his son would commit regicide again. The Habsburgs were so weakened and psychologically deformed by their inbreeding, but they had no idea how intermarriages could be dangerous at the time. The second scene set in Spain confirms that Philip poisoned both Carlos and Annette, and I hope that Annette’s son Ferdinando will not follow in his father’s footsteps. Even if Ferdinando does not believe that Annette was poisoned by Philip, I think it was so and she didn’t die of grief. Well, I may be mistaken. I am surprised that Ferdinando married Isabella de’ Medici, but at least they are not related and there will be no weak, frail inbred progeny. I’m also delighted that Owena Tudor is the only child of the Duck and Duchess of York. Edward’s immobility didn’t preclude him from living his life to the fullest, and that is amazing. It is poetical that Marguerite and George died almost together. I like Margot, Duchess of Berry, and although she does not play a very important role in CWL, I have an unusual pairing for her. Their love is undeniable. Glad that Edward outlived him somewhat to be with Owena. This is a great fiction! Thank you very much for writing it! |

Athenais Penelope Clemence chapter 17 . 2/6 Hello! I am very sorry for the belated review, but life has been too hectic. More than one can bear. You know how it happens, and you know that I always review eventually. There are certain people whom I always review, and you are one of them, my dear. I love the relationship of Margot and George! They are my favorite couple here – I like them more than Anne and Henry perhaps due to my dislike of Henry. George is 5 years younger, yet he loves his wife so much and is not willing to sleep around, staying committed to her despite the fact Marguerite suffered several miscarriages. The scene of their daughter’s death was tragic, and I hoped so much that the girl would survive, but the child was born too early, so the chance was too insignificant. I hope that you will give them at least another son or daughter. I also hope that George’s assurances that he is not like his father are unfading. Liked the glimpse of Mary Tudor’s life in Sweden. She seems to be happily married to the King of Sweden, and they have many children. I wonder whether Mary’s son will rule after Eric is deposed by the nobility, if my memory serves me well. Her husband seems to be a normal man. I understand why you killed off Owen – not every child/adult is destined to survive, especially back then. In CWL and in my novels that are still looking for a publisher (you know this story…)… I am killing children not because I am a bad person, but because it makes character portrayals and their arcs realistic. I am very sad that Edward is now an invalid, but he seems to be a strong and optimistic man, so I hope that he will recover from the horror of knowing that he will never walk again; Edward’s wife seems to be in love with him. Separately! Thank you for Robin Dudley and Elizabeth Tudor being together! I love them together so much! A secret: in very later parts of CWL covering Elizabeth’s accession, Dudley will be with her, even if she may be married for some time, but eventually they will be together. I’m in love with their real-life romance and how they adored each other for decades! |
