Reviews for Shieldmaiden of Helm's Deep
somebody chapter 1 . 6/24/2011
If "boys no older than 7 are pulled from there mother's arms" were made to fight in battles. Does that mean 4 and 5 year olds were forced to fight?
gondorian soldierrr chapter 1 . 6/1/2011
If boys are made to fight, then it should only be big ones and not little ones.
rhysyllegmail.com chapter 2 . 10/25/2009
This is a very nice idea, and I like the inner conflict that you show Eowyn having between her duty and her desires. That is very well done.

The only thing I would have changed would be to put it into past tense ("The battle raged") instead of the present tense ("The battle rages"). The use of present tense doesn't really make it feel more "immediate" than if you had used the conventional past tense style. Normally, that would have sent me to seek other stories, but I like the plotline and characterization of this enough to push my dislike for present tense writing aside. :)

I look forward to the rest of the chapters.

If boys are going to be made to fight at helms deep or any battle they should at least be no younger than 10 or 11. Making a 7 or 8 year old little boy fight is ridiculous. If I were a king or queen or would definately make women fight before I make small male children fight. A full grown woman would be less scared and stronger than a little boy.
Eloin chapter 14 . 11/25/2008
Well! *sigh*

I really liked the end, and the way you make Eowyn change her identity along with assuming the name of Dernhelm... d'you know what I mean? And the whole women bonding theme is awesome, there's way too little of that in this fandom! ;-)

The only quibble I have is the unresolved question of Aragorn... I assume he finally does decide he wants Arwen and so on, but- well, I dunno I guess I'm just not so keen about changing canon couples, and the confusion of feelings in your Aragorn came too close to that! :-)

All in all, exciting story, lovely themes and good character development. Style could use a little more work, perhaps. But I truly enjoyed your Eowyn! :-) Thanks.
Eloin chapter 10 . 11/25/2008
hm... Why is Eowyn so important to Aragorn? It's an intriguing development. I suppose because she is ROhan's future, and like he thinks , she is so young and strong. I think he admires her, kind of in the way an uncle admires a favorite niece of his that's stubborn and headstrong. ;-)
Eloin chapter 5 . 11/25/2008
Interesting developments... How did the orcs get into the passages? Or is it not a passage but a path in the mountains? :-)

The only thing I dislike about this fic is the style of writing everything in the present tense. It may work for short pieces to bring the fictional world closer to the reader, but for such an ongoing, involved piece with flashbacks and everything, I think the more traditional past tense would work better.
Eloin chapter 2 . 11/25/2008
I'm enjoying this story, and will probably review as I go along, as certain points strike me. I've always loved Eowyn, and always wanted to be her, not Arwen... :-)

Seems to me she's quite rebellious, and a bit confused as to where her loyalties lie - with her uncle, her ruler - or with her people, who will need her to continue on...? Good conflict, am looking forward to seeing how you develop it!
buttonbit chapter 14 . 6/5/2008
I really liked it! I normally read HP ones but this was great. I love Eowyn! If theres one things Im not great with it's that Strider is torn between E and A which he isn't really. Aside from that I LOVE IT!
natalie chapter 14 . 10/24/2005

nopenopenopenopenope chapter 14 . 7/16/2005
A little-drawn out but quite lovely
Aemilia Rose chapter 17 . 11/25/2003
Aw! Yeah, I noticed that we never saw that too. I was disappointed. :0( Oh well! Your story covers that!

I would like to see you write a Faramir/Eowyn romance. I think it would turn out incredible, since you are very good at writing romance and you have a very good grip on Eowyn's character. Please let me know if you plan to do one! *hugs*
mousie2 chapter 17 . 11/24/2003
Hey Rosa,

Another chance for me to ask, when is the sequel coming? I have mine on standby, but I have an epilogue to finish first. I want to see the sequel!

I bought the Extended Edition of the Two Towers, and yes, I was definately upset to find that there was no scene with Eowyn fighting. I went looking for it!

Anyway, watch out for the sequel soon,

Bye

Now that this story is over, I think you have to do a sequel about Eowyn's POV on the Battle of Pelennor Fields and the events after... including Faramir of course. I realize that would be more difficult to do and you'd most likely have to wait until The Return of the King comes out, but I think you'd do a great job on it. I really liked this story and I wish it could have gone on longer.

Keep up the good work!
