I know this is early, but by not removing zorzal and his key members early is illogical and stupid move by the JSDF and thus prolonging the conflict and more unnecessary deaths.
But in doing so you'll have to compensate for the lacks of guerilla warfare by pro war faction and lacks of the second battle of Italica. The movement of haryo tribes also needs to be considered.

Also you say that the Marines are wearing M81. Uh... why not MARPAT? It'd honestly be even more logistically challenging to scrounge up m81 uniforms for everyone than just use the MARPAT they already have.

I think the main difference between the GATE warcrimes and everyone other warcrimes is that the vast majority of legionnaries intentionally committed warcrimes, while in the Iraq Invasion the Marines didn't try to shoot every single civilian running through the street.

I don't know if the whole orders are orders thing is supposed to be juxtaposed against the warcrimes part, but nice Orders are not a valid defence against warcrimes reference.

Absolutely worth the wait. I love the characterization you give the characters, the logical preparations for the event, and actually spending time with the people involved. While I haven't read the manga, I know the anime didn't spend time on that, and we only got the barest of hints on the main characters before anything happened.

And I like how this isn't gritty and cruel just for the sake of being gritty and cruel "because it's kewl" but it's done realistically.

In short, I have nothing bad to say about this chapter, or even the story, so far.

Glad to see that Cam hasn't lost his crazy redneck sense of enthusiasm.

This does build to a more private and personal experience of what's about to happen when they pass through the Gate. Honestly I preferred the more grand expanse the first time around, it lets the reader know that this truly is a world class first time event that will forever change the course of human history. The Rangers are just one part of it, but they will play a grand role. Itami too, it seems like he's a bit in the background here.

For now I can only watch and see what happens next!

And trust me brother, you won't get any complaints from me or the other invested readers about late updates. We're all suffering from what's going on in the world right now.
