I agree with your other commenter that Fu was high stakes and there may be other methods of passing along the guardianship. But, that's not the point I want to bring up. I think canon supports the idea that the memories lost are only those from while a guardian - not their whole life. Fu became a guardian at a young age, it's fair that he got wiped so entirely.

But Marinette (or Chat in this case) would only lose a little time. It's not all their knowledge that is potentially a risk, just their knowledge of miraculouses and who the heroes are. For Marinette, she'd probably be wiped back to when Fu started to first let her choose her allies - that was him training her in a sneaky manner. Maybe even wiped back to when she first got her miraculous. For Chat, who has always been kept in the dark as much as possible, he would (in this fic) only lose a couple minutes of his life.

I don't think the magic is a one size fit all complete wiping. If so, then your hypothesized masters co-guard with an apprentice then give it up means those masters become useless after teaching one student. Which implies canon support (since it makes no sense that canonically every student destroys the entire memory of their teacher) for the idea that more than one way to pass on guardianship and revoke it and give it up are possible. After all, it was an entire temple full of guardians in many stages of initiates to masters. Not a Sith-like one master and one student. A complete wipe each and every time could only allow for one master and one student set-up, and not a community of guardians.

You should add a couple of chapters to this. I'd love to see how a reveal would play out now. Poor LB. Lol.
