Reviews for Forest For the Leaves
Axccel chapter 1 . 7/13
Wait, if Naruko is “Namikaze” then her mother can’t have been Kushina or else she’d be part of the Uzumaki clan. You don’t take your husband’s name if he’s marrying into your clan nor does he take yours. There can be negotiations about it but when your only argument amounts to exterminating a clan it’s just not going to happen.

Even if Minato’s marriage was public, he’d still be Namikaze, Kushina would still be Uzumaki, and their children would be Uzumaki.

If I remember correctly, Hinata takes the Uzumaki name when she marries Naruto. This is both because she was in the main family of a prestigious clan and because the Uzumaki were nearly extinct and faaaar more prestigious. Having founded and ruled their own hidden village as well as a nation they were quite literal royalty.
CrowKrowQrow chapter 2 . 6/21
Loving the story so far... Just reaaally hard to not wish that he would burn the Leaf. From how your story is going is probably going for the more adult route of "some evils are necessary, even if I suffered, there are a lot of good people in the village and it's my home, I shall be the bigger man forgive the past and work for the tomorrow!", basically Gaara after a Naruto beating.
It's the more mature and serious route... but I still want to see that True Several Thousand Hands just punching Konoha into non-existance.
Well, really like the story, well writen, the character are pretty realistic, can't wait for more.
CrowKrowQrow chapter 1 . 6/21
Woah, loved that beginning. Just the correct level of dark, always liked fem!Sasuke so glad to see it, well, can't wait to see the long term plots there, Naruto's mokuton (it's Senju Naruto... it's a given), kotoamatsukami being discovered and Naruto's encounter with his parents (would ask that he doesn't automatically forgive them, as cannon!Naruto would, but from how dark/depressing you're starting I doubt it he would anyway).
Persona of the People chapter 2 . 6/20
Nicely done. Shame that yet another refuses to have fem kyuubi. It could still behave the same way and be female...oh well. Maybe one day someone will write another good one. In another 10 years, when people rethink about the idea. Good job otherwise. PM me though. I have a serious story related question. And I don't wanna put it in public review if I end up being right.
X3runner chapter 2 . 6/10
Man I could see Naruto this version at least ending up resenting kushina more than most others since she went through something similar to him yet showed no compassion. Hell it would be ironic if her kid went full Hinata over Naruto and ended up annoyed or angry at her mother for keeping her away or trying to from somthing she likes/wants you did mention she was relatively spoiled in the last chapter. I’m going to hazard to guess we will not be seeing any wood style from Naruto ever due to the change in threat that the 9 tails would be with that ability available to him. Also how funny would it be if all they did to bring him closer to the village with susui backfire majorly. Are you going to go with the reincarnation thing since it would kinda mess with The whole free will thing since the choices and actions since the interactions Naruto and sasuke has were not guided by themselves but by being reincarnations going through the exact same shenanigans over and over again only realy differing this time due to the direct actions of an ancestor.
GamerX568 chapter 2 . 5/30
Why would the people dislike Naruto more because of his parents? Naruto sensing Negative Emotions doesn't happen until the Fourth War.
GamerX568 chapter 2 . 5/30
So, Naruto has a the opposite half of Kurama in this story? That's surprisingly rare.
smarak.mohanta26 chapter 1 . 5/30
Don't discontinue the story please.
Dark Car chapter 2 . 5/30
I enjoyed the story so far, I’d really like to see where you go with it. Will Naruto be getting mokuton? Or will his affinity be that of The 2nd hokage with being able to produce water without a water source

Glad to see an update can't wait for the next chapter
StoryReigns96 chapter 2 . 5/29
To 'Ssuke Naruto', who bravely criticized me for being a baby, damned eunuch coward via an anonymous review. Was my response petty? Yes, absolutely. But abject and uneducated? I challenge you to explain how quoting someone is without dignity, and at all indicative of my education.

I'd be more inclined to take your criticism, if it entailed anything more than just derogatory adjectives without any reasoning. Also, if people posted reviews under their account, I would never bring it up on my story, but when they just flame my story without even apparently reading it, anonymously, so that I can't address their review via PM, I do feel the need to address it. So, no, I don't feel like less of man for quoting a bad review.

Parents being absent from their child's lives is practically abandonment, but not literally abandonment. Naruto being alone, makes him feel as if he's been abandoned, but it is not necessarily an irredeemable blot on Tsunade & Jiraiya.

The world isn't black and white, my story has a nuanced view of morality. Naruto's messed up friendship with Shisui being a key example of that. In the real world, not everyone who is neglected and abused as a child, becomes a murderous psychopath. Which is why I took umbrage with the Anon-reviewer "ABOSULUTELY NOBODY has such a pure heart... Another story with Naruto cosplaying Jesus Christ... Naruto's philosophy is total bullshit... Nor am I surprised that the apprentice of Jesus Christ (Naruto) ends up forgiving his mother and all those who mistreated him." All because I made it so Naruto doesn't want to hurt people.

Besides being simply wrong in that I never wrote a perfect, pure-hearted character, but a troubled young boy who is having a difficult time in his life, and is trying to seek out joy where ever he can. All while he's literally being brain-washed. But that's unbelievably moralistic.

The world isn't black and white, which is why I'm annoyed when people write reviews claiming that my Naruto is impossibly nice because he doesn't want to murder everyone around him, since his inner nihilist is ready to devastate him in the form of some random's flawed interpretation of the Joker.
Ssuke Naruto chapter 2 . 5/29
You respond to criticism in an abject, petty and totally uneducated way.

This story is full of holes and doomed to failure, meaningless and strictly shallow. The negative reviews you are receiving are fully deserved. Grow up and don't be a baby, accept opinions like a man and not a damned eunuch coward.

Parents being absent from their child for almost a decade is practically an abandonment. This Naruto has every reason to abandon Konoha, become a villain or a Shinobi from another nation. That's why the comment about the Joker by an anonymous reviewer makes perfect sense. The world is not black and white.

StoryReigns96 chapter 2 . 5/29
So, the last five guest reviewers asked questions, and since they're not logged into the site, I can't reply to them directly, so if they're checking... Oldest comment is Guest #1, newest is Guest #5, etc.

Guest #1: You're right about one of those things. Also, yes.

Guest #2: Uzume will be able to use the adamantine chains, yes. I don't see why she wouldn't be able to given she's an Uzumaki and Kushina is around to teach her.

Guest #3: Wow. A lot to unpack there, first of all, Jiraiya didn't raise Minato. He was his teacher. He also didn't raise the Ame Orphans, he taught them how to fend for themselves, for at most a few years, before leaving them in a war zone. I can't understand why you're so insistent that Jiraiya would absolutely stick around, considering he didn't raise Naruto in canon, when he was godfather. Similarly, Tsunade didn't really raise Shizune, it's more that she took an older Shizune with her on her drunken bender across the world.

Besides, I never even said they 'abandoned' him. They're just not around. Maybe wait until their absence is explained to criticize their reasoning.

Kushina's reasons will be explained soon. There's a lot going on there. A lot of guilt, helplessness, and fear.

Naruto's parentage would have given him a pass, if his parents were around. Like I literally had villagers say in the last chapter, the villagers consider him to be a disgrace on the village. A sacrificial vessel for a demon really. They don't consider Naruto to be a person, just as in canon, so his parentage isn't considered, except as a reason to hate him for "driving the sanin away".

More BS about me not changing anything. I'm sorry if you saw a Naruto Senju story and expected rainbows, but it does affect the story immensely. Naruto has access to the Senju clan jutsu, Hashirama's bloodline traits and Mito's, he's not malnourished and has a great deal of money, his parents aren't just abstract dead heroes to him, he knows they're out there and not with him and he's eventually going to interact with them with a lot of angst and rejection anxiety. Kushina will have a huge role in this story, she just didn't raise Naruto or be the focus of the story. Naruto has the toad contract, because all that is required to have that is to sign in blood, have them accept you, and have the chakra to use it, it's not that hard. Jiraiya's babysitters.

I don't see the cringe in the trope, and you're just being willfully ignorant when you claim I never changed anything. Naruto resenting the Hokage and his parents, Naruto being trained as a shinobi, Naruto having the ability to sense negative emotions, access to summons, being friends with Shisui & Satsuki and Kurama trying to actively harm Naruto are all huge changes.

Making Kushina related to Tobirama would have been a pointless excuse to have Naruto have Mokuton, and uninteresting, and unecessary. Naruto is already related to the Senju and is Hashirama's reincarnation, I could have easily given it to him. Also, deathbed parents are not a thing, you meant deadbeat.

Guest #4: Lol, I'm not joking, and you're jumping to conclusions as to why Naruto won't be able to use Wood Style when drawing on Kurama's power, and I feel like you might have missed a crucial part of Chapter #2. It's not that Kurama's chakra counteracts his, Naruto will be able to use Mokuton to control other Tailed Beasts intentionally. It's that Naruto won't be able to do anything really when he's under the effects of Kurama's chakra. He blacks out, Yin Kurama basically hijacks his body, and tries to take it over and screw up his chakra entirely, so he can break through the seal.

Yin Kurama is far more devious, and hateful than his Yang counterpart. He won't really ever 'give' Naruto any chakra, but force it on him at inopportune moments, and hold it back when he needs to it. He's trying to get out, either by breaking the seal, or getting Naruto killed...

Naruto's Mokuton will make it easier for him to control Kurama's influence on him, and make it so that Kurama can't just pop out whenever he wants, but when Naruto is forced to draw on him, he loses himself entirely.

Guest #5: Tsunade did run away, and is drinking her sorrows away. But that's not why she left. You'll see. Her disappearance is going to be the great mystery of Naruto's childhood, and his motivation for becoming a ninja.
Guest chapter 2 . 5/29
Loving the story, just curious if tsunade is just like cannon and ran away drinking and partying. If that’s the case, I know it’s bad, but I hope he lets her have it. And cuts her from his life when he does see her
