Yelling back from somewhere in the void! This is beautiful, brilliant. I'm always captivated by your writing. The narrative prose is evocative and resonant as ever, but I think the dialogue here really stands out, so natural, sharp, and at times comically biting.

I love the darker turn of the characters, the maturation. There really is a sense of profound change on Gunther's part, but also on Jane's, whose younger self would've wrestled a response out of Gunther but now cautiously, almost subversively tries to approach him. And yet, there is constancy. The characters stay true to themselves. Gunther continues eavesdropping, remains perceptive and pensive. Jane is as noble as ever. The cliff hypothetical is one of the truest characterizations of Jane I've read, and Gunther's observation that Jane escapes choice is on the nose.

I'm really excited to continue reading and hopefully, we'll both participate in Janther week this year!

UUIOSKJHGVHJKJHGHJ! I squealed so much while reading this! I've always loved the way you've written these two (and all the other characters) Gunther and Jane's conversations are always so interesting, needling, sweet and funny. And the atmosphere you creatue around these two is lovely 3 I am so looking forward to where you take this story!
