Reviews for Giving Up
Mehdi Haned chapter 17 . 7/25
you know what we need? more fics like this where a character explores other forms of bending. great idea and great execution 9/10 my only complaint is that the pacing feels a bit off. it's only a bit as it only caused me a bit of confusion.
EvilChaosKing chapter 1 . 7/20
What a unique idea! I'd love to see this be updated more frequently! If you want a bit of a long form on suggestions for both where this story can go and where I think you can improve it please let me know.
Setsuna Eien chapter 17 . 6/16
I really wanna see where this ends up
Guest chapter 17 . 6/10
I love this story. I cant wait to read the next chapter.
FigurativelyDying chapter 5 . 6/8
I'm laughing at iroh's growing concern at zuko's newfound detachment. This is a wonderful concept!
deathshade37 chapter 17 . 6/7
Fantastic job so far. Looking forward to more!
EmPro8 chapter 9 . 6/6
I really love how chill Zuko is now. Despite being so different, it still feels like him tho.

Disappointed that Sokka missed his character arc and they never met Suki, but hey this is an AU. If things weren’t different then it’d be boring.

Real Sokka would be so annoyed to know he could credit his relationship with Suki to Zuko’s attacks.
EmPro8 chapter 8 . 6/6
Lol Zuko possesses all the skills
Jube chapter 17 . 6/2
Hey Fulcon! I'd like to say that I love the way you've taken into account all the characters and the general timeline of the original story when writing your AU. Instead of just changing Zuko to be a less explosive version of himself, you remembered to account for other minor yet pivotal characters like Jet! Also, the connections you're making between elements is very insightful, especially with the way you've related the cabin concept of Yin and Yang to the actual science behind how lightning works.
Hey, do you think there could be a "second element" to every school of bending? Like how Toph manages to figure out how to bend metal from earth, and Iroh learned to redirect lightning from waterbenders. If bloodbending counted as a "second element" to waterbending, then what would be the second element for air? Do you think Aang could manipulate the air molecules to do things like increasing the atmospheric pressure around him? That would be so cool, like artificial gravity!

P.S. I've had this story bookmarked for the past year and I can't tell you how excited I was to see it updated again! I hope you're doing well!

WildlyLaughing chapter 17 . 6/4
I'm still loving this story! I think one of the things I like is also how you're exploring more on bending. It's pretty interesting, especially since it's actually impacting Zuko and not just be there as an info dump
Guest chapter 17 . 6/1
Looking forward to the next update. I keep daily checking spacebattles and this site lol.
MopsyFleabert chapter 17 . 5/30
Thanks for writing, and I look forward to reading more! I hope you get the inspiration you need to continue with this story!
EmPro8 chapter 5 . 5/26
I love Iroh. He’s basically Zuko’s full time therapist. I don’t want to know how Zuko would’ve turned out without him

So where are they going now then? Are they gonna open a tea shop or something? I really can’t wait for him to meet the Gaang. And I can’t wait until he meets Aang himself. It’s gonna be so awesome
EmPro8 chapter 4 . 5/26
Lol Zuko finally figured it out
EmPro8 chapter 3 . 5/26
This is so fun to read. To be honest I didn’t really understand the fire nation’s philosophy until you revealed it to be drive. Drive is a perfect word to describe it. Purpose, ambition, goals, energy, drive.

Nomad’s is detachment, I suppose, but when you’re detached you’ve got more to give. Without things to cling to you can float from one situation to the next. If you yourself aren’t disappointed, you have more emotional capacity to help everyone else.

Earth kingdom is all about stability. Being centered? Or is firm a better way to describe it? Long-standing. I don’t know a good word to summarize them.

Water tribe is something else I can’t remember. I saw a post analyzing how all the elements bring something different to the ATLA world, and when they killed the air nomads they lost the element of fun. I suppose if they killed fire nation the world would lose its drive. It is the fire nation, after all, that created so many industrial machines (although admittedly, they were made for war, imagine if their drive was put not in war but something that could help people).

Anyway this is super fun to read and I love how Zuko is subtly but definitely changing. And gosh I love how he keeps his honor. He doesn’t kick people when they’re down, I love that about his character and it’s great you’re making that very clear here.

I love uncle iroh and he’s great. He’s got so much emotional wisdom. he knows when to say things and when to hold his tongue. That’s actually a very good skill to have.
