Reviews for Happy Together (A Borderlands 3 Novelization)
TAG AND BINK chapter 45 . 8/1
Zane looked up at the statue of who he assumed to be Roland; considering what he heard about the man, he was the prime definition of a leader. A hero. / It's funny, Pandora wasn't usually a place for heroes; took balls and brains alike to become one.
(Hopefully, when our Vault Hunters make a return trip to Roland’s Rest, they'll be able to read through the messages left behind on the pedestal — specifically from the First Generation Vault Hunters, especially Lilith. I believe it helps to establish to the Third Generation on how close their predecessors were, and the bond between Lilith and Roland. Maybe they’ll return after some of them go through the events of the “Childhood's End” Side Quest?)

“¡Deja de gritar, perra!”
(“Stop screaming, bitch!” ~ Courtesy of Google Translate)

"Define different stor—FUCK!" Moze swerved the Technical to avoid from mowing down a skag in the road. "Fucking SKAGS! Why the FUCK are they in the fucking roads?! Is there a sign for this shit?!”
(This… made me SAD. You’re MEANT to MOW THEM DOWN! Not helping things is if you decide to drive a Technical, you would have already unlocked the “Meat Grinder” Armour that encourages ramming things! Hell, if you play as Zane while driving (and ramming), he would occasionally say stuff like, “Didn't you hear the horn?! (whispering) I didn't hit the horn. / Out of the way! (whispering) Oops, too late. / You were supposed to get out the way!”)

"Ya can call yarself anythin' ya want, so long as people're screamin' it when ya kill 'em.” / "That's morbid.” / "Well, it's true. Me brother knew a guy named Nine-Toes back in the day. Apparently, he also had three balls.” / "…gross.”
(Does anyone remember The Clipper? “Don't drop it... might lose a toe.” And fortunately for Amara, with Nine-Toes dead, the only one who can top that (thankfully for her, not in the Borderlands universe) would be Josuke Higashikata from “JoJolion” — the youth with FOUR testicles!)

"Surprising they haven't realized who we are, yet." Amara was already passing through the gate, with everyone else in tow. / "Maybe they're just that stupid.” / "Or maybe they're that confident we can't get in." FL4K concluded for Moze. "Given how they treated this Carnivora, it makes sense they figured it would be impossible for us to gain entry. And yet…” / "Well, let's hit 'em where it hurts, save Tannis, and blow this fuckin' place to bits.”
(YMMV / Best Level Ever: Carnivora. No cheap tricks or gimmicks here, just good old fashioned bandit killing. Lots and lots of bandit killing by the way, you'll feel like a walking apocalypse after you've finished this map.)

Also, it was hard reintroducing Sal. Sorta forgot how he talked and if he mixed Spanish with English.
(You can check out “Salvador/ECHO Recorders” and “Salvador/Quotes” on the Borderlands Wiki to get a rough idea.)

OVERALL:
This chapter looks pretty good! And now I have something to look forward to every Fridays! And we’ve now reunited the Second Generation of Vault Hunters: Axton the Commando, Maya the Siren, Salvador the Gunzerker, and Zer0 the Assassin.

Though… in response to other guest reviewers, I’m not too fond of the idea of reintroducing Gaige the Mechromancer and Krieg the Psycho ‘just yet’ into the events of Borderlands 3 (even though it would provide a greater chance for shaking up the crappy plot upside down), given that they’re ‘preoccupied’ into their roles in the present (and upcoming) DLCs — Gaige shows us that even a badass Vault Hunter veteran can’t do much against one of the biggest Mega Corps in the galaxy with trillions upon trillions of manpower and killer robots all out for her blood; she’s been forced to leave the Crimson Raiders and spent the last seven years in hiding from Holloway's forces, and it's clearly taken a toll on her both mentally and emotionally.

And Krieg? Well, we haven’t even gotten any tangible information on the upcoming fourth DLC, aside from that concept art poster.

Alternatively, Amara, FL4K, Moze and Zane could just stumble upon his ECHO Logs (Cave, Control, I’ve Missed You, Old Life, Revenge Poop, Stuck) over at Konrad’s Hold (during the events of ‘Angels and Speed Demons’) and bring them over to their predecessors — I bet Maya and the others would have some more stories to share to her successors from those ECHO Logs... except for Revenge Poop, that one’s rather embarrassing for poor Krieg.

(The whole thing reminds me of this story, “I WILL USE YOUR RIBCAGE AS A XYLOPHONE, a Siren Song” By: Jack The Bard.)

BUT… if Krieg ever shows up, even as a cameo of sorts (for now), then we have GOT to hear these voice lines of his striking fear into the Children of the Vault!

First Place: I'LL SHOW YOU WHAT A BADASS IS!

Second Place: I'M GONNA PUT MY PAIN INTO YOUR SOUL!

I meant to read this chapter earlier, but got sidetracked. Glad to see you reintroduce Salvador fianlly. Also, good call uploading on Fridays now..csnt wait for Carnivora!
Le055Li0n chapter 45 . 7/31
Nice, I like the way you are incorporating all the older vault hunters into the story, it feels really natural. Will Krieg make an appearance?
dirtrevor chapter 45 . 7/31
Yay! a new update. I'm glad to see Salvador again but will we see Krieg in Carnivora? I kind of doubt it considering the next part after you save Tannis. We've yet to see Gaige though; she's the only one left that hasn't had any screen time.

Got any plans for how you’ll tackle this ‘Idiot Plot’ AND still continue the story?

(A one-shot I stumbled upon told a story that Tyreen transferred her ‘Phaseleech’ powers to Ava upon the former’s death as a final ‘curse’, ‘spite’ and ‘fuck you’ before Ava managed figure out or had an epiphany on how to ‘GIVE’ rather than ‘TAKE’ away energy/life, giving Lilith and Maya the boost needed to push back Elpis...)

YMMV / Idiot Plot: Following Troy's death, Tyreen Calypso also seemingly dies from the stress of the ritual she and Troy were attempting. Lilith, Tannis, and Ava then show up and spend a minute or two patting themselves on the back. At NO point does anyone think to do a precautionary double-tap on the most dangerous person in the universe lying mere feet away from them. Surprise, surprise, Tyreen was just unconscious and upon waking sweeps everyone out of her way, calls you a loser, and heads off to wake the Destroyer.

(Of course, there’s always the ‘classical’ shockwave that knocks out the heroes, necessitating their allies to attend to them, before realising they left the villains unattended. The outcome is everyone rushing to put the villains down, but are too late to do so or even prevent them from getting a second wind...)

I love the comment about how FL4K is number two on the hit list and his offence(I took it as him being offended he's not number one) great story!
JUNO chapter 44 . 7/23
"Sliders"? Do you mean those small hamburgers or sandwiches made with soft buns? (First time I heard of the 'proper' term for them — ever.)
B.E.A.T.N chapter 44 . 7/23
Another great chapter, even if it is short. You have a great way at making these characters so darned likeable. I can't wait to see how you right the stuff with Cornivara, (I forget what it's called at times).
Guest chapter 42 . 7/21
If the writers had done this good a job with Ava's character development I don't think she'd have become so hated; I myself could never stand the 'cocky, no-nothing' teenager thing about her. Please keep doing such a fantastic job.
Guest chapter 43 . 7/16
I’ve heard that the Vault Hunters are getting a new skill tree and was wondering when/if it comes out will you include that in your story? I don’t remember what Zane and Amara will do, but Flak will get a pet loader bot and Moze will be able to summon a mini-iron bear.
Le055Li0n chapter 43 . 7/17
Yup, ava has become a well done character. Also, I really like the way Amara and Moze are turning out.
Aardvark123 chapter 42 . 7/17
That was a good bit of Ava-development.
B.E.A.T.N chapter 43 . 7/16
We will soon reach the last stage of the story, and I can't wait to see how it plays out. Great work on this chapter, and on the way you have been developing the characters. Have a good evening, great work, and stay safe.
CONFERENCE CALL chapter 43 . 7/16
To 'KidChaos69':
Perhaps Zane's tropes on 'TV Tropes' might provide the answer to your hypothetical scenario. Here are some notable ones, in my opinion.

- Berserk Button: Hurting children is a surefire way to piss him off. He also doesn't take betrayal lightly either.

- Cain and Abel: Played for Laughs; according to an ECHO Log from the "Commander Lilith" DLC, his brother Captain used to send assassins at him as a way to "keep in touch".

(Captain Flynt: Dear diary. Found a package full of heads outside camp today. Thought it could just be my boys prepping for our annual head-ball tournament. But then I remembered the kill team I’d sent after my younger brother and uh... yeah, it was them alright. Classic Zane. Haven’t seen him in years! Not since he left to join that black ops outfit. Sending assassins after him is just my way of keeping in touch. A little more personal than a Mercenary Day card, you know?)

- Hitman with a Heart: He may be a legendary assassin, but he's a 'Lovable Rogue' and 'Cool Old Guy' to the core, always happy to help the helpless and humour the latest weirdo to cross his path.

- Overt Operative: He may be an assassin like Zer0, but he's no 'Stealth Expert'. Instead, he's a flamboyant 'Large Ham' who prefers to make the biggest, most chaotic mess possible and then use that to get the drop on his victims. (In hindsight, it's probably why he has so many people after him!)

- The Family That Slays Together: He's a member of the Flynt family which consisted of a bandit warlord, a torture-happy pirate, and said pirate's vengeance-obsessed son. Understandably, their relationship is fairly twisted as Captain considers sending assassins after him his way of keeping in touch.

- You Killed My Father: Subverted; he either doesn't know and/or care that the Crimson Raiders killed his brothers and nephew, in addition to wiping out their respective power-bases. Given that it's Zane, though, it's probably best to bet on the latter — he doesn't really hold grudges.
Matt22152 chapter 43 . 7/16
So now its showtime since we need to save Tannis from the Carnivora festival and the clutches of Pain and Terror.
