Reviews for Deku the Mimic
crazybeebee chapter 3 . 9/22
I see that Momo and Izuku are going to be paired up, hoping that others aren't added (looking at you Uraraka)
Haribo Haughty chapter 3 . 9/22
I assure you, anyone dumb enough to read this and actually think that Haribo sponsored the story deserves to be allowed to revel in their own stupidity.

More to the point, author's notes in the middle of a story are something you should never do. Period. The only POSSIBLE exception is if it's being done for humor in a crack story, which I'm assuming this isn't, because it isn't funny and/or unbelievably random and pointless.

This rule is especially true when you have to FORCIBLY insert the bit that makes the note "necessary", in the first place.

See, gummy bears are a generic candy. Haribo is a brand. There was no reason to mention a specific brand of a generic candy, unless the entire point was to give you a reason to put in that note.

Because if you had not mentioned the brand, which we've already established there was no reason to do EXCEPT to give you reason for your note, then you wouldn't have "needed" the note.

In other words, the note is "necessary" because you mentioned the brand. The brand was "necessary" to give you a reason to put in the note. Circular reasoning, pointless addition, waste of time.

Plus, it wasn't even remotely funny. It was annoying and destroyed any immersion I'd managed to build up, taking me right out of the story into shaking my head at why anyone can still actually believe author's notes in the middle of a story are somehow a good thing.

Nothing you need to say to a reader is so important that you couldn't put it at the beginning or the end of the chapter. Not one thing is so important it just HAS to be said right in the middle of the chapter, or the world will implode, explode, turn inside out, and sing about ducks wearing plaid.

Secondly... you picked an already OP power, made it more OP, and then mumbled pointless comments about making him too OP... why?

Not to mention, he's already touched All Might. While OfA may not be able to be STOLEN, what's stopping it from being COPIED? Just a thought.

Third... it's known he can take quirks. Not copy, but actually take. That means he has to have taken a Quirk in the past, otherwise he'd just think he can only copy Quirks.

This means he either made someone Quirkless by taking a Quirk he couldn't give back, he has the power to give Quirks back if he wants, or the "taking" is only temporary.

In the last case... it's temporary. Tell the whiny people to shut up. That's perfect for a Hero, since he can steal their quirk, capture them, then they'll get it back once in custody. This is possible, but seems unlikely for people to keep calling his quirk a "villain" quirk, since it's temporary and no real harm is done.

In the first case... Izuku seems rather blase about people being Quirkless, given he notes a 62% suicide rate and he MADE someone that way. That person would be at an even HIGHER risk, since they HAD a Quirk and it was taken from them. Meaning Izuku most likely drove some poor person to suicide. So logic precludes this, or this Izuku is an outright sociopath who DESERVES to be Quirkless.

So the most logical possibility is that he can take Quirks away, and he can give them back. This means he's BY FAR more overpowered than you seem to have realized, to the point that OfA is practically nothing in comparison.

Given how you described the copying power, I'm going to assume he can only have one copy of a Quirk, because if he can have as many copies of it as he wants... well, that's just insanely overpowered, even compared to what I outline below.

What you described doesn't actually prevent that from being possible, mind, it is just so OP as to make what I describe below seem like a joke in comparison, that I decided to just forego that possibility.

So, okay, he can only have one copy of a Quirk. This would really limit his power, right? HAH!

Copy a Quirk, give it to the original holder. They now have two of the same Quirk, which likely merge into one twice as powerful, similar to how OfA came into being.

Now, he may still have a copy of the original Quirk he gave back to them, which means he can keep throwing copies of it at them to get them to a relatively precise point of power. This would simply multiply their power each time he gave them another copy.

Then, once their power is where he wants it, he can copy their upgraded version for an instant power-up of a formerly weak Quirk or steal it from them and give them back the original version to keep from boosting a villain, or something like that.

Then again, he may have to give away his copy of the Quirk each time. Again, it merges with their existing Quirk, doubling its power each time. This makes for less precise control over the power of the Quirk, since it becomes exponential. Essentially the power would go 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x, 64x, and so on.

It also means that whoever he does this with gets a permanent power boost, regardless of if he wants them to or not, or he has to leave them Quirkless.

In either case, eventually even the weakest Quirk would outclass OfA. And he can do that with EVERY. SINGLE. ONE OF THEM.

That's also assuming they won't EVOLVE as they increase in power, such as pulling small objects eventually becoming powerful enough that it turns into full on Telekinesis. I'll assume that WON'T happen, for this part of it. So I'm assuming that the copied Quirks would just grow in strength, power, range, and so on, but fundamentally remain the same.

But then again... Izuku has the power to combine Quirks, which he already mentioned. So he can also start making his own combinations. True this requires either willing test subjects, actual guinea pigs (the world shudders are the thought of more Nezu's), or a clone power similar to the Kage Bunshin from Naruto that would allow him to try out merging them without consequences. Find a good combo, copy it. It sucks? Let the clone go, the new version of the power going with it.

Frankly, that power is so OP just as it is right NOW that giving him OfA would be a drop in the bucket.

But let's assume he can't give away copied powers, only those that's he'd taken permanently. That'd limit his power, right?

Hello, Monoma! Yoink!

Now he has TWO copying powers, so he can hold two powers at a time. Can his Quirk copy Quirks from his copy of Monoma's Quirk?

Let's give an example:
For ease of reading I'm going to call Izuku's Quirk by the name Quirk Master.

So Quirk Master copies Monoma's Copy Quirk. Izuku then uses Copy to copy Todoroki's Quirk. He then uses Quirk Master to STEAL Todoroki's Quirk from his version of Copy, allowing it to then Copy the Quirk again. He then STEALS it from Copy again, doubling the power of his version of it. Repeat ad infinitum.

So Copy may be limited to a single version of the power that he can't give away. However, just like stolen powers can be given away, they also have no reason to be limited to a single copy of a power in such a fashion.

Worse, maybe the Copy Quirk MERGES with his own Quirk, expanding its capabilities into something more than just Quirk Master. OOPS! Then he copies it again, and again... and again... and again! Eventually it might push straight into Power Manipulation.

There is a point to all of this, by the way. It's not just to show that the power you gave him is so insanely OP that calling giving him OfA somehow OP is laughable, though that IS still true.

The point is that you should stop worrying about if something is "OP".

People say OP like it's a bad thing, but it's equally bad to give a character an OP power and have them be so PHENOMENALLY stupid that they miss even GLARINGLY obvious uses of the power, or worse actively AVOID using it, for outright dumb reasons (I'm looking at YOU Sharingan!Naruto who spouts off about not using his eyes to "steal" techniques).

Frankly, if Izuku ISN'T trying to become OP with his power, then he's doing it wrong. That doesn't mean the story has to be boring or bad, you simply have to recognize that Izuku having a tough fight is going to be more about emotional stress than physical stress, in most cases, unless he's fighting someone incredibly powerful like AfO or All Might.

The fights are tough because of what's on the line, not because of how hard he fights.

Doesn't mean everything should be easy, either. But a character with an OP power who struggles all the time is just as stupid as a character with Godlike power having no obstacles to make a story worthwhile.

That doesn't mean hand the character the idiot ball and tell him to go play in traffic. It doesn't mean he can't take a while to come to a realization about new ways to use his power, because they weren't immediately obvious to him, either. It means balance it out, don't make him an insane genius who uses a power copying power to become God in a single not... but don't make him a moron who ignores obvious uses of his powers.

A story with no tension is bad. A character who shouldn't be struggling all the time, because they have an insane power, but somehow is due to stupidly self-imposed limits that make no sense is JUST AS BAD. Both of those will become frustrating for a reader, eventually.

Either way, best of luck to you with your story.

I criticize that this can be an awesome twist on the AfO Izuku, not only take but 'copy'. That I like very much.
ThePhenoix11 chapter 7 . 9/22

This is really good I hope you continue the story I need to know what happens
TheAttemptedWriter chapter 1 . 4/23
Writing is a bit too, sloppy, for a lack of better word. Or rather, it's too fast. "THIS THEN THIS THEN THIS" happened, is essentially what it feels like.
The1ststand chapter 6 . 4/15
This is really good. Missed opportunity when all might have him the bento. I thought he had his hair in there somewhere. This is a really funny fic and has one of my favourite ships in it so I’m excited for more!
Batros940 chapter 6 . 4/10
I'm glad to see you have Bakugo be smart enough not to start fight just because he didn't get a chance to fight Izuku.
Batros940 chapter 2 . 4/10
Good chapter. I hope you do give One for All to Izuku. But if you don't then at least let Izuku copy the power so he can train alongside whoever gets it.
Batros940 chapter 1 . 4/10
How is Izuku's power considered evil. So far from what you have showed he copies the power someone has by touching there skin. That is a awesome power for a hero to get a variety of powers, especially if he comes up with new uses of said power that the original hero couldn't think of. So far you have shown him to have Bakugo's explosion and Kamui Woods plant power. The only evil part you've mentioned is he can take powers. Do you mean he can take them like All for One does, or do you mean he just absorbs them like Rogue and taking them for a short time? If Bakugo with his attitude can be praised as a future hero then there is no reason Izuku should be treated as a villian.
trollzor69 chapter 6 . 4/10
Best underrated ship of all times
malekari125 chapter 1 . 4/10
The problem with your story is that it just doesn't make sense to treat him like a villain since he doesn't in any way have to steal the quirk to use it. So the whole bullied kid who overcomes obstacles feels forced. The best izuku has all for one fanfics are the ones that deal with the issue of having the most OP quirk but with the drawback of loosing your morals and your humanity to make the most of it. Your character can basically become a god without any real drawbacks, and gary sues are really boring.
CosmicCrutches chapter 6 . 4/10
I loved this chapter, loved the IzuxMomo moments. Hope school is going well for you!
