Hubert had the moment of this chapter with BERNADETTA. She was gonna try and make a break for it and he shut that idea down real quick. Thank the goddess he did that, otherwise Byleth and co. would've been screwed.

Also, Bernadetta came through and got the 'W' for her team. She actually managed to avoid Caligo and take him down. Byleth taught her well. Now that that's dealt with, it's time to finish the battle.

You definitely tried a lot in this chapter. The bad guy this character was straight out of a shonen, but I think those lengths were in service to give Bernadetta this powerful threat that she needed to take on her own, while also making it as cool as possible. The flashbacks were also really nice both for just making Byleth feel like an eloquent instructor, but also for highlighting Bernadette's combat growth.

Those are what came to mind as unique about this chapter, and rest assured they added a lot to it. Thanks for keeping us entertained while we deteriorate from cabin fever. It means a lot. Really hope you stay sane out there too. Peace.

If Bernadetta was born on Earth instead of Fodlan, this pandemic wouldn't do a thing to her current lifestyle. In fact, she'd prolly celebrate in her own way.

It's magnificent. Bernie was one of my MVPs on my first run, too, which was also Golden Deer. Nearly stole my Byleth's heart away but in the end I had to go with Lysithea for my first wife.

I take it Bernie got the high score. Good for her.

I see that the smash trailer got you interested in depicting Byleth kicking ass? Well I'm glad because that was sick! Of course he wouldnt want to just stay idle outside of his proffessor duties. Reading your depiction of him makes me more excited to play him this week!

As for the meat of this chapter. I suppose it was meant to teach Bernadette the importance of failure, a similar lesson to what happened last chapter, albeit this one is more focused. I thought Petra was a good foil to help her with it. She makes a lot of mistakes but she's not one to be dwell in shame like Bernadette. And because of this courage, Petra didn't run when she heard a kidnapping and protected Bernie from the beast.

This all caps off with Bernadetta learning from Petra and helping her kill the beast instead of running when she had the chance. As a substitute for her B support with Petra, I really liked this this version. If there's one thing I found lacking last chapter, it was the implementation of her supports. It could have used more of your own flair rather than relying a lot on the original script. I think this chapter you did a lot better in that regard.

That was adorable, as interactions between Petra and Bernadetta usually are. I like this.

Also, you should look at Archieve of Our Own for more bernie fics! Off the top of my head I can point you to three: Sarracenia (arranged marriage AU about FerdieXBernie), You're bound but so free (A BernieXDimitri retelling of BL) and The Von Varley Effect (a direct follow up to CF's ending, with BylethXBernie as the pairing). All of those are high quality works!

A pity it seems your fic isn't mapped out yet. It has a lot of potential!

Seeing a retread of her supports is a little bit boring despite your good writing though. Maybe consider having Bernie interact with other students? There's more than a few that would have a nice dynamic with her that we never saw in-game, like Ignatz, Marianne and Annette. These could be nice scenes to bridge the actual story content.

Speaking as someone writing a retelling in another series (a Hinata-oriented retelling of NAruto, if that means anything for you), it's okay to retread canon content but try to adapt how it affects the new PoV character. Most students don't get to react very deeply to the story events, but as a student herself, you can use Bernie to get those new perspectives going.

In the Black eagle house Bernadette is definitely best girl. I actually decided to make her a pegasus knight on my play through and she does pretty well with that class.
