Darkover chapter 2 . 3/27
Dear Linda, This is a fine story-just enough nostalgia to make it warm and familiar, not so much as to make it too sweet. Both chapters as written with your usual talent for expressive and accurate language, and your excellent characterization. There is an element of things coming full circle, a sort of "the more things change, the more they stay the same" aspect to the story. Aragorn is a young man in the beginning, a mature man at last come into his own at the end, and in both cases, he is in the company of a dear friend. And the ale, of course, holds its own! I enjoyed reading this, and you did a fine job of using each chapter to meet the requirements of the challenges. Sincerely, Darkover

Awww. I enjoyed that!
Very nice balance of history and now, sadness and hope.

Oh Aragorn... if only you knew what a pile of names you will collect...
Deandra chapter 2 . 9/1/2019
Nice juxtaposition of the two visits and the similar reactions to the ale.

Hope you're well (and dry).

Guest chapter 2 . 8/25/2019
..."talk the hind leg off a donkey"... Having known a couple of very stubborn donkeys, I cannot only laugh myself, but agree whole-heartedly - at least for ol' Barleman.
Enjoyable piece Linda. It's fun returning to a place you have been and seeing familiar faces. Thank you Linda!
Guest chapter 1 . 8/25/2019
Ooo how ever did I miss a 2015 story about younger Strider?
Well, whatever. I love this Linda. As you know I am in Lotro (Lord of the Rings Online) and see the Pony very well in my mind while reading this. And of course, one cannot say anything against Halbarad!
Thanks for mentioning this piece.
Excelsior!
ForestWren chapter 2 . 8/27/2019
I love it! I was grinning by the end.
Fastred of the North chapter 2 . 8/24/2019
I love how Faramir is so reserved and unsure of what to make of these strange Northern customs. And the dialogue between Aragorn and Butterbur is great!
Animekitty47 chapter 2 . 8/22/2019
Yay, we finally got to see the reunion hinted at in RotK. ;)

lol Even Faramir liked the ale!

Send some ale all the way to Gondor? That'll be the most expensive ale in existence by the time it gets there. :P

Thanks for adding in this scene. It's cute. Even the still distrustful Breefolk manage to be amusing and not, ah, more annoying.
Virtuella chapter 2 . 8/22/2019
Ah, that's a nice bookend. Though I'd be very wary of a beer called "Dragon's Breath"! And methinks Faramir will soon introduce a public smoking ban... ;-)

Gotta love the Prancing Pony and the Butterburs

Enjoyed your story.
Erulisse chapter 1 . 8/14/2019
What a delightful tale, and such a perfect thing to have Halbarad introduce his cousin to the Prancing Pony. Well done!

Erelil Awarthiel chapter 1 . 8/15/2019
What a good story! It was a joy to read, the words flow as if they were Tolkien's own. I also really like how you had Halbarad be the one to give Aragorn the name Strider. Thank you for writing this!

Animekitty47 chapter 1 . 8/14/2019
A nice- ooo, is that TBC mean to be continued? A great start then. It's always nice to see Halbarad, especially since Tolkien, was all Remember the New Guy with Aragorn's dearest human friend. :P 'Course he also shoved Aragorn and Arwen's backstory in the notes with all sorts of random odds and ends too so...yeah.

Anyway, it was a good fic, and I'm looking forward to the rest.
