There is a real problem with this law. You need to have each couple bear THREE children minimum to positively increase the population.

Next is the rather draconian way the law is handled, the time constraints really too short. Also instead of the sanctions mentioned, there should be bonuses for couples having more than three children.

First thing first. Stupendous chapter! Everything that could have gone right did. I like the general avoidance of last generation names.

The last bit with Kingsley is icing on the cake. A decent coda.

Now, I’ll get on my soapbox. You made a great case as to why Marriage Laws should not EVER be done. I won’t rehash Harry’s arguments against except to say he didn’t go far enough.

Those sort of laws are what you expect from a victorious Voldemort. Create an easily indoctorable workforce of magicals, while rewarding loyal followers. The bonus being punishment for those who fought against him.

Add to that that the law as originally written was not going to increase the population anyway. Even now, the best anyone has done is to replace mummy and daddy. Ron and Luna, Harry and Hermione are the examples.

To do things right needs an incentive system. Encourage love matches to start and then offer bonuses. Say G10,000 for the third child, G20,000 for the fourth and G50,000 for each additional child. Pay for this by total confiscation of all the assets of the Death Eaters.

The result would be SO much better.
