Reviews for I Never Was
cold kagome chapter 1 . 1/22
That part hurt me. When she didn't try to get to know them in the beginning

Well, that totally tugged at my heartstrings...maybe even made me tear up a bit. Yep...tons of fallout from that scene with Mary. We see a lot of how broken Dean was by it, but we never got to see much of Sam's reaction, so I'm so happy to see someone do a tag from Sam's POV regarding Dean's comment and Mary's choosing to side with the BMOL. Of course he would feel guilty for being the cause of Dean never really having a childhood, and yeah, he TOTALLY had every right to be pissed at Mary for teaming up with the people who tortured him so badly. I mean, really...how could she POSSIBLY think that was going to be okay? But even in the middle of that, I loved Dean coming to check on Sam when he hears the breakage going on, going so far as to subtly check that Sam didn't cut himself - his brother who has been beaten, shot, stabbed, tortured in hell and by humans, but he still worries that he stepped on a piece of glass and cut his foot. I LOVED that. And Dean is STILL taking care of Sam!

Laureleaf chapter 1 . 7/29/2019
Thank you for acknowledging that poor Sam was very much caught in the middle of that devastating argument. Well written too :)
Guest chapter 1 . 7/29/2019
So very well done, but so sad.

It's always great to see a new story from you.

Any chance you'll revisit "Sammy is..." soon?
That's still one of my very favorites!

Please?

I never gave this scene a lot of thought after having my heart broken by it. I really love seeing Dean’s statement from Sam’s perspective, because if it broke our hearts... Sam’s must be a wreck. I also feel like Sam’s reaction to Mary leaving wasn’t explored as much as Dean’s, so I always find stories about that subject interesting. Thanks for posting. This is awesome!

I liked seeing this from Sam's point of view, that scene has Dean and Mary and Sam is in the background in a way so it was nice seeing it from him. It makes sense that Sam would think about himself as being the reason for both Mary and Dean. I did love how after Sam was trying to think of ways to help Dean. Dean coming to Sam, checking on his feet, was so fitting. I also really loved how what Dean says and suggests are what Sam had thought.
shadowhuntingdauntlessdemigod chapter 1 . 7/27/2019
We know this whole scene screwed Dean up, so I loved reading it from Sam's side. Describing Mary leaving, the abandonment, as a spike of inevitability, is so utterly and painfully perfect. Also loved how Sam kept thinking of how to try and make things easier on Dean because he knows what Mary means to him, and that Dean checked on Sam's footwear status when he had broken the dishes. It's just so them. You get them. And it's always lovely *and again, usually a bit painful but in a good writer/reader way* to read your stuff :)
writingtrainingwheels chapter 1 . 7/27/2019
very right didn't think of how sam would feel blame for both situations but especially dean's childhu. Ironically needing parenting is probably the best way to help dean in the current moment
robvb2000 chapter 1 . 7/27/2019
Awesome story. Great job. You could just feel the hurt they were going through.
MusketeerAdventure chapter 1 . 7/27/2019
Nicely done! Thank you for sharing this with us.
NoilyPrat chapter 1 . 7/27/2019
Yep, never thought but Sam was caught in the middle. Dean wasn't a child because of Sam. May wasnt a mom because of Azazel wanting Sam. Twisting knife in how they each feel, and the idea of Sam pushing it backuntil a dull ache is ship much like Sam
