I know Elena's a "god" but she started off as a mere mortal. Sometimes it's difficult to let go of the pain, the anger, it's what some people need to stay afloat, save their sanity I guess. But I think most of us -though not all- get to the point where we have to let it go or it'll consume us. I remember when my mom died - she died brain dead from a subdural hematoma after a fall and only a couple days before Christmas - I was mad at God for a very long time after that - but the distance of time has a way of making the load more bearable and then the anger begins to loosen its hold and acceptance comes.
I am still not sure if Damon is the immortal God or not. He may be taking her slings and arrows to see what she's capable of or maybe just to understand her a little if he is him... Look forward to 'the rest of the story' as Paul Harvey used to say.
