Zapper Frost chapter 6 . 2/26 I was sad before, now am hap |
Zapper Frost chapter 1 . 2/25 You know, when I first started the RSU I was really looking forward to reading this one when I saw it, but now after reading this first chapter I am sad, Velvet did not deserve that happening to her. |
gordhanx chapter 7 . 9/6/2019 Well, looks like we're at the end. Let's see if everything manages to wrap up, or if everything falls apart some more. And right of the gate, we're back in misery-ville, as Velvet sees that Coco's missing and rightfully blames the camera. I mean, at this point it's kinda hard not to. Soon enough, a very anxious Dew arrives, telling her that Coco's suddenly been missing, and the two agree to search for her. You did a great job, on portraying Velvet after her breakdown. She has some self loathing, some regret and while she tries to blame the camera, it's clear she's believes herself to be at fault. It's a depressing but still very grounded opening. Unfortunately, while she's stuck in her apartment, Cardin & co. are getting ready for their big night. Still props to Coco, for not loosing her cool and openly threatening her captors. Plus, it was a fun way, to give some more personality to the rest of CRDL. Soon enough, Cardin arrives with his new gear, and a dangerous attitude. And Coco's still talking crap XD. That's my Coco. Though the soon starts to crumble, once she learns about Velvet's involvement. Soon enough Cardin contacts Velvet, demanding she give him the camera for Coco. With no other options, Velvet returns to the forest, where CRDL are waiting for her. The exchange goes off, mostly harmlessly (aside from Coco going ballistic on Velvet)…but Cardin, doesn't think that's quite enough. Looks like the suit's making him a bit unstable, as he decides that having the camera isn't enough. While terrifying, it actually makes for a pretty good reflection on Velvet, on how both of their rooms, help to influence their worst impulses. Though, Cardin's amour is the one, that's actually hurting him. With no other options, at least in Vel's mind, she's forced to take on Cardin. Fortunately, she still has her semblance, even without her camera, so while it's still a mostly one sided fight, she at least has a bit of a chance. Even Coco gets some action, as she effortlessly turns the boys agains each other, long enough to knock them out. And so, we get a pretty good game of cat & mouse…until, her semblances fades out. With no other options, she hides from Cardin, who takes the opportunity, to finally show some more character. While a little late, it was still interesting seeing him & Velvet having a classic hero/villain face off, with Cardin trying to justify his actions and apologizing. Thankfully, this time she's not taking any of his BS, calling him out on it, long enough for Coco to show up. She cripples Cardin's mech, hands Velvet her camera, who quickly uses it to power down the mech and then unleash all of her frustrations, onto Cardin. Which, while immensely satisfying…damn, Velvet's got a lot of issues to unpack huh. Guess, that's why she decides to forgive Cardin, seeing so much of her in him. With the issue now solved, Coco & Velvet finally find the time, to talk about everything. And it was a really good talk. A nice way to wrap up Velvet's arc of her self worth & her recent behavior. Now that she's finally become aware of her problem, hopefully she'll can improve herself from now on. At the least, it's nice that she's got Coco backing her up, no matter what. With that in mind, she decides to resign from her job, to spend more time improving and finding herself. Good for her. Hopefully, she finds what she's looking for. This was a nice story. A lot shorter, but a good character journey for Velvet, helping to start her path in this new world of heroes and villains. Really loved the departure from the regular stories, behind more about Velvet's mental health & confidence, than stopping crime. Really gives this, a unique spin on things. Hopefully, we'll eventually see the rest of team CFVY, but enough, I look forward for more Vel & Coco…and Weiss, once her latest story comes out. And of course, we've got some good end credit scenes. We've got Oz, all ready making plans for Vel, Coco & one mr. Daichi. Though more importantly, he believes that Coco might not be so trustworthy, as she seems…and he's quite put off, by the appearance of the mysterious camera. Oooh, have got our first look, at this world's Infinity Stones? Maybe this time around, Anesidora is a Relic. And on the other hand, Coco's seems very interested in Cardin's armor. Given Ozpin's suspicions, I'm not sure wether that's a good or bad thing…at least she, finally managed to get with Dew. |
hirshja chapter 3 . 8/14/2019 “A huntress probably wouldn’t trespass on private property” HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Velvet you sweet summer child. |
gordhanx chapter 5 . 8/9/2019 Oh, we're with the police department eh? Interesting starter. Turns out, we're here cause Velvet's there to gather info on Cardin. Oh dear, looks like Vel's entered the morally grey area, in her superhero-state. While she does acknowledge, what she's doing is kinda messed up and even reconsiders, it's still pretty messed up, seeing her casually break the law and being so dismissive over it. Man, guess all that power's really gone to her head. Unfortunately, her search doesn't lead to any results, making it all for nothing anyway. All the while, Cardin & his goons are getting restless, as they're not as popular as they'd like. Gotta say though, it was fun seeing them cry over their failures. It's a really fun way, to give them some more character, other than former bully criminals. After the slew of serious baddies, it's fun to have a group of fuck ups. Instead, the real intensity seems to be coming, from Coco's relationship with Velvet. Which seems, to have taken quite a bad switch, after Coco comes home furious, after Dew asked her out…and it's pointed at Velvet. Awww shit, what happened? What did Velvet do wrong? Seems like, she's going off the deep end, as she continues investigating Cardin. Only this time, he comes with his promises, carrying weapons, guns and even a whole stinking MECH! Where the hell, did he find that? Velvet's quick to take as many photos as she can, of him and his equipment…but, that soon doesn't become enough for her, as she talks herself into blowing up the entire stash! Even tries to KILL CARDIN! JESUS VELVET! What happened to you?! I mean, Cardin survives and his weapons are gone, but still, good god what happened to Velvet. As Cardin manages to make himself look innocent, once again avoiding suspicion, when Cardin gets a call from a certain someone…his dad. Really cool job, on the talk between them. From the sounds of things, he's in on it…though, quite upset with his sons activities. Really good show of their dynamic, despite the dad only appearing right now. Though, things take a terrifying turn, as CRDL has discovered it's Velvet who's been doing this. And while Cardin's still a bit disbelieving…he still takes action. Oh shit, this is not good. As if Velvet, didn't have enough to worry about, she's caught sneaking in by Coco, which eventually devolves into an argument between the two. Turns out, for all her cockiness, Coco's not all that thrilled over Velvet encouraging Dew, feeling it an invasion of privacy & calls Vel out on it. And soon the two start fighting, which eventually leads to Coco, finding out about the night & Velvet's activities, naturally horrified by it all. Which leads to her, to realize that Anesidora is evil & controlling/influencing Velvet. And if that's the case, then…oh my god, that's actually a pretty brilliant twist. It makes sense, it adds up to her recent behavior and is such a different, yet cool twist on Velvet's powers, that it works really well. Great thinking, turning the camera into a symbiote. While Coco tries to get the camera away from her, Velvet's still drunk on power and pushes her away for good. Which become the final straw for Coco, who leaves her…only to be caught by Dove. Aww shit, this ain't good! With only one chapter left. We're definitely in, for a big…and probably very emotional conclusion. And I have NO IDEA, how it's all going to end. Side Note: It might just be a coincidence, but have you been watching Dragon Prince lately? (noticed one of the cops, was named Rayla) |
gordhanx chapter 4 . 8/2/2019 Good to see Velvet's still on her stake out…even with the mind tediousness of the job. At least, she's used this time, to figure out how her camera and powers work. Sucks, that she's keeping it from Coco though. I mean, she all ready knows about her muscle memory, why not tell her about this. I'm sure she'll probably be worried, but still supportive. While it's understandable, that she wants to stop Cardin, it sucks that she's pushing everyone else away for it. At the least, it's good seeing her gain some more confidence, sneaking into Cardin's place, if a little cheeky, using her abilities to cheat in order to make money. Also, it seems that Velvet's finally figured out, what's going on between Coco & Dew. No matter how much, the former may deny it. She doesn't manage to find anything at first, but does manage eavesdrop on Sky & Dove, as they look & find a tow truck hook. Ooooh interesting. So Cardin's going to move something big. And I dread to think, what that might be. But thankfully, she decides to take a small break, by going to a night club of all things! Even Coco's shocked out of her mind. Still, it was nice to see her gain some more confidence, joining Coco to her night club, starting to like it a bit more (listening to Coco's sudden Wonderwall rant xD ), even manages to have a pleasant conversation with Dew. Despite, only being a supportive character, I really loved that you have Dew, giving Velvet some much needed encouragement and being supportive of her passions. And Velvet in turn, encourages Dew to ask Coco out. You go Vel :D . Everyone's happy and having a wonderful time…until she notices Cardin there…trying to hit on an underaged girl. She tries to confront him, even managing to fight him off. Only for Cardin, to make it like he's the victim…with no one taking Velvet's side. Damn poor Velvet. Really great job, showing that while Velvet's still stronger and a bit more confident, Cardin still feels like the more dangerous of the two. Man, that was quite the bitter way to end this story. Though, with two chapters left, let's hope Vel can make things right, and finally take down the bastard Cardin. Side Note: Really loved the Caffeine references. |
gordhanx chapter 3 . 7/22/2019 Oh, we're having a small time skip this time? Interesting choice. Good way to build up mystery, for what happened in that cave, and what that light was exactly. And with Coco, going on a date/meeting/project discussion with her rival/crush/girlfriend Dew, Velvet's mostly stuck by her lonesome. Fortunately, it seems the trip has knock Vel out of her funk, and she's now ready to buy a spanking new camera.…only to find a new camera, lying on the floor. A camera by the name of Anesidora. Oh man. I think I know, what happened to the light. And so does Velvet. Really loved seeing her reaction to it. She's naturally confused and weirded out by all of this, but quickly gets the hang of it and is amazed by its power. It was pretty cute actually. Anesidora also seems, to be a lot more powerful this time around, bending reality to suit Velvet's liking. Let's hope, she won't absue the power. Though, while she's enjoying her pictures, she has a rather awkward and painful encounter, with a kind, tall man. Is that Yatsuhashi I see? Would be a nice twist. Hopefully their next meeting, won't be as awkward as the first one. Velvet soon masters Photographic Memory, and reveals her new abilities to Coco…much to her vulgar shock xD . After a fun reaction, to all the madness, the two of them take some time to adjust. Coco with a drink. Velvet, by starting her superhero career.…and taking on Cardin. Oh dear. It's nice that she's gotten a lot more confidence, but let's just hope she hasn't become overly confident. Still, it was really cool to see her in action. A wonderful chapter. A good intro to her powers. |
knightsofsprite chapter 1 . 7/19/2019 Oddly reminds me of spiderman homecoming |
gordhanx chapter 2 . 7/12/2019 Awww man, Cardin did a number on her. Poor Vel. Not even Coco, can knock her out of her funk…so it's a good thing, that Oobleck's there for support. And man, do I love their relationship. Oobleck's such a nice, encouraging mentor, who's both sympathetic and helpful to her. While, he doesn't get her to be completely over it, and reveal what really happened, he at least manages to knock her a bit out of her funk. Coco, tries again to get the truth out, but Velvet's still hesitant to tell her. Which, unfortunately annoys Coco, and then eventually Velvet, which then works up Velvet's anxiety and self-hate & makes her retreat to her room for as long as possible. Man, you are really laying in the drama aren't you? This is just depressing. Still really love, how you've captured their relationship. They feel like a real friendship. They love and care for each other, but still often get on each other's nerves and have their arguments. But they still want to make up and help each other out. Like, when Coco pays out of pocket, for Velvet's hike to the forest and manages, to guilt trip her into going. And embarrass her, throughout the ride. It was nice, to finally see the forest in all its glory. It's too bad it's turned into a tourist attraction, run by some unenthusiastic guides. Though the highlight, seems to be the mysterious Anesidora Ruins (nice to see some After The Fall references). After sneaking after from the tours, and convincing Coco to come onboard, they eventually make it to said ruins. And man, it's got quite the ominous backstory behind it. Leaves it open, for something more…Grimm to emerge. As Velvet goes to explore, and after her curiosity gets the best of her, she falls down to a small ball of light. The REAL story begins. Another good chapter. So far, it's mostly been drama, but it's been well handled. Now that things are starting to get more serious, it should be interesting to see, where things go from here. |
gordhanx chapter 1 . 7/10/2019 WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?! This is real? We're getting a whole Velvet centric story?! Not just as a side character, but a main character. Oh my god, this is so unexpected! I love it! I'm SOO excited to read this. Really loved the opening. A really sweet way to establish Velvet, her job, her friends and the overall setting. Having Oobleck be a journalist this time around, was a fun way to reintroduce him. He makes for a really nice boss. Very encouraging of Velvet, and sometimes pushing her forward, so that she can realize her potential. Which, gives us Velvet's goal for this story. Finishing her album. Which, is gonna be hard, as Velvet's her usual nervous self. Luckily she has BBF, Roomate and Designer professional Coco Adel to cheer her up. Still great, to see them together, with the same chemistry we all know and love. And she's not, the only new RWBY girl we get to see, as they go to a birthday by NDGO's Dew. Unfortunately for Velvet, being a shy, antisocial wreck, the party turns out to be a nightmare for her and she leaves, even after promising to show Dew some of her photos. Man, poor girl. Really great, on capturing Vel's anxiety and lack of confidence, always doubting herself & assuming the worst. It is really hard, to see her having to go through this, but it's handled really well and helps to build her arc, of having to grow more confident in herself. As she tries to go home, she runs into her least favorite people in the world. CRDL. Lead by Cardin. Yep, we finally get him and he's just as much of a jerk, as you might expect. Having him be Velvet's antagonist this time around, was a very fitting choice. With Jaune all ready a competent fighter, Cardin makes more sense for Velvet. Though it seems that, he's a lot more shady & legit criminal this time around, smuggling dust weapons and building a supposed empire. Velvet tries to capture them, only to get caught, beaten up and then have her camera broken. God damn, that was painful to watch. Why did that have to happen? Velvet returns home a broken mess, to the desperate arms of Coco…but refuses to tell her what happened. Oh man, this whole chapter was just one big kick in the gut. Aside from the opening and all the Velvet/Coco scenes, this was a harsh opening. Hopefully things turn out better, for Velvet soon. Good starter, even if it's brutal. |
