This does make me wonder how much of Jaune's lack of training wasn't due to his parents not training him but his own self sabotaging himself. Would fit with him still speaking well of his family and his own canon mental state.

They last section, more worldbuilding there than we usually see in a whole season of RWBY

So I’ll preface my comment by noting I have not read this story’s original, so I lack foreknowledge other readers may have. That said, after reading through I’m not sure where this story is trying to go. Jaune is essentially the same as in canon, albeit with a partner who is vastly less interested in helping him and is a poor sparring partner because of their styles anyway. While that is balanced by Jaune occasionally doing rounds with Neo and having basic knowledge there’s no reason in hell his canon-self didn’t have, the result remains the same. Barring some shounen-esque power up, he’s going to be a bystander narrating events, not an actual protagonist.

Honestly I would like to see the fight from both prospectives.

Nice touch on Aura not being a panacea, suppose the lactic acid build up being natural then Aura wouldn't fix it.
