Your grasp of the dynamics of the Montoya clan, specifically Don Sebastian, serves you well in this well conceived story.
The reason Don Sebastian behaves the way he does is because those around him allow him to do so. When he encounters someone who refuses to play along, he becomes helpless. John plays a card the Don never considered- personal honor. He has no counter argument and is rendered toothless, his roar a hollow joke.
This was an important episode in the context of this series and to be honest, I prefer your take over that of the original. A most welcomed and appreciated addition to this site.
(“...a state of high dungeon” going to have to look that one up! Ha.)

I really enjoyed the way John had them all fooled. Victoria would have followed John anywhere
