I came here for Pokemon in AtLA, I stayed for…well, Pokemon in AtLA. Also at least a little for going for Ty Luko, I’ve always liked that.
Salamence? Hmmm. The longing desire to fly in the sky fits at one level, but in other ways it seems strange. Particularly, that Aang never struggled with Air (he’s ostracized for his prowess), whereas the Salamence evolution line’s backstory is all about persevering and managing against all odds to fulfill the impossible dream and take to the sky.
Then again, with the extremely wide array of Pokemon, I’m guessing that you’re not having it so that there’s only one creature for all Air Nomads. Perhaps there was some sort of choosing ceremony, or perhaps it was because he was the Avatar? (Eh, but then it’d be obvious from the moment Aang and Salamence (Bagon at the time?) partnered up.)
It’s been fascinating seeing you wield Ty Lee as a leader and organizer in her own right. When she speaks of preparing for landing operations and notifying the crew the battle preparations being the first example of this. Its really upped my hope in regards to you giving depth and character to Ty Lee, unlike nearly all stories, and doubly-so for taking it in such a unique direction for her.
Also will be interesting to see how her different role and the traits you’ve given her change her views and choices. In canon, she didn’t show any real sense of superiority, just very well concealed worry in being forced to follow Azula. She probably didn’t think the Avatar should be captured either there. Does that change here with her being much closer and supportive of Zuko? Where does her goals and intents split from Zuko’s – how does she define herself as a separate person with separate worldviews from him?
Also, even in canon, Zuko mostly chose the safety of his allies over pursuit/defeat of his foe. Will that continue here – will he choose protecting Ty Lee over taking Aang at some point?
[I’m curious as to why you decided to retain the Pokeballs. Iconic they may be, but they don’t serve much of a function in an of themselves in regards to plot or character actions. Like, if Zuko weren’t keeping Chimchar and Growlithe in pokeballs, and were instead simply having them hanging about, sometimes trotting off to do their own thing on the ship, it wouldn’t detract from the story. The only problem would be in terms of trying to be stealthy at times, but that would mean more tactical thinking, having smaller and more naturally stealthier pokemon teammates, leaving behind the others, etc.]
Well uup, nvr mind, you linked it with your chi backstory. More reasons to have faith in you, lol.
There’s also some tension, because one of the apparent beliefs of the Fire Nation in canon is the inherent superiority of firebending over the others. This links up with the airbender genocide and the attempted waterbender genocides. …So how does this carry over with the integration of multi-type even-more-multi-move pokemon? I mean, if the Fire Nation is going around trying to eradicate flying types…there would have to be a hell of a response from somebody, be it the general pokemon populace, the legendaries (should they exist/care – Tornadus in particular, as the Flying-type Legendary), the general populace of the other three nations (and would more likely spark an underground rebellion within the Fire Nation), or something else.
If Pokemon are ‘replacing’ the spirits…then what the heck is the Avatar state lol. Willing to see where that goes.
In a world that presumably has at least semi-legendaries like Dragonite (wait, Salamence himself ha) and their corresponding power moves, the sheer ‘oh-shit’ of the Avatar state as displayed in canon doesn’t seem to be there. Not just in the array of elements available (or to benders in general, now that I think about it), but also in sheer power disparity. First really though about this when you ran through the lineup at the end of chapter 5 of what Zuko was taking to defeat the Avatar – a lineup that would get vaporized by later-gym-leaders, let alone the Elite Four, a region’s Champion, or the AVATAR.
I’m delighted to see where you go with this story. Please don’t lose steam on this!

Good chapter, lots of good action, and I always enjoy Ty Lee!

I like this story so far and I think it's great that it's Zuko/Ty Lee! I'm very interested to see how everything plays out as you go farther in. My one suggestion would be: you seem to be switching between character POVs. That's fine, but I recommend putting some kind of indicator (a line or something) to establish the change in perspective. When you suddenly switch from Katara to Ty Lee for example it's very jarring when there's nothing there to let me know. That's all, please keep up the good work!

Hey, welcome. So look a warning given you are writing a Pokemon story. Farla, St Elmo's Fire, Talarc, Spencer841, Handle Criticism Maturely, and a few others are known bullies on this site who review only to destroy stories and promote drama.

They will push their believes down your throat, demand you redo your story to fit their wants and no, they are the super minority and hated by the fandom. They also tend to post pms publicly so responding to them is ill advised.

They start off with a disclaimer about honestly thinking it would help. It doesn't they want you to be screwed over as they complain about trival nonsense that got their panties in a twist.

They think Pokemon is slavery. That you should capitalize the way they want, fyi Pokemon names are not species names and that's been officially recongized in modern English. So yes it's correct to capitalize Pikachu for instance. Oh, and they give out false dialogue formatting (It's "Hello," She said dialogue is a seperate sentence). Spend time putting out a text block of non issues that are not going to help you. Don't get me started on Arceus.

What's worse is they all try to pass it off as them being critics in their reviews. Any review with it in the begining should be ignored if you get it.

Oh and if they say that they are being bullied. Know that they are lying as they been doing it too this fandom for years now and are just pissed that a group are working to stop it. The admins told them to knock it off.

If that's not enough on my profile is proof its utter nonsense. oh and if there is a guest reviewer titled "Take Down Hybrid" know that is's actually Handle Criticism Maturely the biggest of all of Farla's supporters and an utter troll who only doing this shit because Hybrid gave her criticism. The girls gone off the deep end and into complete insanity.

Speaking of them they had twice agreed to stop but don't. Even after being told to stop by the admins, their friends, and even random strangers. Right now they are somehow convinced that Hybrid, a woman, is a man.

If they claim they have proof don't. Its all utter nonsense land they been told by the admins to take it down.
