Reviews for The Dragon of the Shield
JensenDaniels32 chapter 3 . 7/15
Yes I can fucking blame Naofuni for his reaction. If he made them pay in blood, even at the risk of his own life, then everything would be fine. Instead of *doing* something about it, though, he only sulks and complains like a whiny-ass BIATCH! Tyler had every right to beat Naofumi's ass down for the way he was yelled at. Can't blame Naofumi my ass. Also, why bother trying to hold back your anger for someone? Kill them or beat them to near death. It's worked for me in all my decades of living. If I do end up dying someday from it, then I will do everything I can to take the bastard or bastards who finally do me in down with me.
The1Myth chapter 1 . 6/6
You know what Pokemon would be perfect for Naofumi? Wobbuffet
TonyMon318 chapter 5 . 5/5
Like the Background story of Kurisu, also do you plan for Naofumi, Raphtalia and Filo to get their own pokemon if pokemon started appeared in the world, like Zamazenta would be perfect for him but still its up to you.
Coral the Leviathan chapter 5 . 5/5
I love seeing Kurisu and her team taking those bandits down! Yeah, don't ever underestimate your opponent. Can't wait to see her use her tonfas in action again in later chapters, especially Naofumi and Tyler's reaction to what they can really do~
Guest chapter 1 . 5/1
Also, regarding to the point of "ptl", if the gun of Tyler is a vassal weapon, this means that Tyler is a vassal wielder or also known a seven star hero, and considering that normally exists 8 vassal weapons in this world, and among of them, don't exist a vassal gun, perhaps this means that Tyler got a new vassal weapon than the original 8.

And also, regarding to the point of that the gun is talking with Tyler, it is said that the vassal weapons are sentient and they forms a telepathic link with their users, making that this proves that Tyler is a seven star hero, and not a other thing. And regarding to the point of that the vassal gun would be rejected by the legendary shield like with the others legendary weapons, the vassal weapons have less restrictions than legendary weapons, and this means that the vassal weapons don't repels themselves or the legendary weapons, making that the seven stars heroes are capable to joins to the party of others seven stars heroes and joins to the party of one of the legendary heroes, in fact, the role of the seven stars heroes is supports the legendary heroes in their mission of saves the world, and normally each legendary hero should counts with two seven stars heroes as assistance, for a good reason exists normally 8 vassal weapons, as two should helps one of the 4 legendary heroes.

I hope that this clear the point of "ptl"
Guest chapter 1 . 5/1
Interesting story, regarding to the pokemon in the world of Rising of the shield hero, i cannot help to see how much interesting aspects can exists between both franchises, starting for the fact between the concept of pokemon trainer and pokemon, in comparison of the concept of Master and slave. Well, some people in the pokemon forums says theories about that the pokemon are slaves in essence, as they are "enslaved" by the pokemon trainers with the pokeballs and forced to battles when their trainers summons them, much like the slaves in rising of the shield hero are bought and forced to works to their masters. But as interesting point, even if looks like the pokemon and slaves are forced by their trainers and masters, as occurs with most of the pokemon of the trainers and with the slaves of Naofumi, their companions in general are willing to helps their trainers and masters and even are happy to be with them, showing that their relationship can evolves to be family bonds level. But as difference, the method to creates this links between trainer and master with pokemon and slave is different, in the case of the masters, they uses slave crests to registers their slaves and they can uses this to forces them, literally, to do their willing, while the trainers uses pokeballs to registers their pokemon, and this devices to difference to the slave crests, cannot forces the pokemon to obeys the trainers, as the pokemon in fact can disobeys their trainers sometimes, at least that we talks of the dark balls of pokemon 4 movie, that are more similar to the slave crests in the sense of forces the pokemon to obeys their trainer

Also, considering the human supremacist mindset of melromarc, i guess that the bigots and racists could considers the pokemon like a kind of beastmen, as they are non human sentient people, and considering that the pokemon are physically more different to human beings than demi-humans, the bigots in general could see them like a kind of beastmen, making that the pokemon are frown upon in melromarc. But i wonder if in silvelt, a demi-human supremacist kingdom, the pokemon would be treated with more respect, to see them like other beastmen, making that the pokemon can be considered as citizens of first class, but i wonder if the people of silvelt would frown upon the pokemon trainers, to see them basically like slavers of "beastmen" in their territories, if this theory is true, i guess that Tyler should watches his back to comes to silvelt.

Also, considering the hatred of the filolials against the dragons, i guess that if the pokemon comes to this world, or the filolials comes to the pokemon world, the filolials could seeks battles against dragon type pokemon out of dislike, and even the filolials could harbors this grudge also with dragon like pokemon, like charizard or aerodactyl, that despite to not be officially dragon types, they have physical characteristics of a dragon pokemon, even they can learns dragon type attacks. And also, i wonders if is possible that the filolials can be caught by a pokeball, as i guess that the filolials could be considered like a rare kind of pokemon, especially by the fact of be a sentient creature that can learn human language and follows orders, much like the pokemon.

To finishes, i wonder if the pokemon needs class up to still leveling up in this world, or they are like the legendary heroes and vassal wielders, in the sense of lacks level cap (until level 100), making that the pokemon don't needs class up to became stronger. But i guess that as equivalent for a class up to the pokemon, is the evolutions, becaus much like the class up, the evolutions are processes that changes the users and gives them new skills and in the case of pokemon, new types in some cases, adding that this processes gives them boosts of stats and new abilities, making that the evolution of the pokemon, would be their class up in the pokemon world and perhaps in the world of rising of the shield hero.
qazse chapter 4 . 5/1
First the spear stooge says Naofumi cheated, then he claims he let him win. My GOD he’s pathetic. If he’s gonna make excuses for his short comings, he should at least have the dignity to use one at a time.
Coral the Leviathan chapter 4 . 5/1
This is the very thing I have been waiting for! The race turned out well, of course, despite the bitchy princess attempting to cheat and the dumb-dumb of a spear user being so stupid as to not realize it. Not only that, but the trainers even picked up some evidences on the cheating, in which the bitch tried so hard to deny. Lie to someone who is truly gullible, why don't ya.

Kurisu has joined the Shield Hero's team, she proves her lie detecting skill, and next chapter, we will see how she arrives in this very world~ I can't wait~

nice chapter
MysticRising chapter 1 . 11/23/2019
No offense, but the tyler character sucks. Like his attitude is just, damn. And a gun. I mean i guess it's fine but idk, kinda detracts from the fantasy world if he uses firearms, but finding a unique weapon would have been hard seeing how most weapon forms were already incorporated. Honestly I thought he would be some 'beast tamer' hero.
That said I kinda like how you wrote the scenes and canon characters naofumi and rataphina. Your dialogue sounded corny, like 'hahaha! We claim this mine in the name of team rocket!" Kind of corny. I think this would be a very fine story once you make more nuanced conversations and give Tyler a better personality. Kid can always change for the better, like his pokemon dies and he grows solemn, realizing he isn't some badass but human.
...that sounds like an excellent way to develop tyler. Idk, kill a magikarp or something, then he absorbs it to make the magikarp gun, and we all know magikarp is a suprisingly OP pokemon (youtube why magikarp is the most dangerous).
Hey! What if they absorb things like pokemon fur, scales, claws, ect that fall off, or things like their attacks, like absorb the ice from an icebeam and make an ice ray gun or something. Like absorb a poison powder or stun spore, you know attacks that produce stuff like that would be awesome material.
Cold-heart-Angel23 chapter 3 . 11/16/2019
I laughed when Dunsparce put Motoyasu in his place. Never fully underestimate a Pokémon, sometimes the most simplistic ones can hide a lot of power. Wonder who the next trainer will be: friend or foe? Keep up the good work
rantingbanshee chapter 3 . 11/11/2019
Okay so I do have some things to note about this story. For one thing, despite Tyler's appearance in this story, he hasn't changed anything. Canon is still proceeding the way it happened in the show as if he doesn't exist which sets a bad precedence for writing.

Tyler's pokemon being somewhere around level 60 is far stronger than the Heroes are currently...therefore should be having a substantially bigger effect on the battlefield against the 1st wave. In fact, you would only need one pokemon to handle the protection of Lute Village and destroy all the monsters with ease...and yet, Tyler used two pokemon and struggled to defend the Village. He should be having a bigger impact in this story with his appearance...but he's having almost no impact with the way canon is proceeding as it was in the manga/show.

Secondly, no offense, but the pokemon you chose for Tyler's party is...terrible. Most of them, if not all of them are Dark-type pokemon which means Tyler has no versatility when it comes to using different advantage types (how the heck did he win pokemon battles?). The specific pokemon in this story having way too many weaknesses and barely any resistance to dmg types (fire, water, ice, rock, fairy etc) which is a logistical nightmare for most trainers.

As a general rule, it's always better to go for dual-type pokemon due to having the 'best of both worlds' with those type of pokemon having dual types of damage while having fewer weaknesses due to dual type abilities offsetting each other and stacking each other.

For example, Gardevoir (Dual Fairy/Psychic type which is almost impossible to beat due to foresight, regen health and insane fairy offensive power). Due to the Psychic-type advantage alongside Fairy-type Gardevior isn't susceptible to Psychic and Dark type attacks. All other damage types are mostly weak against it.

If it had been me to go with a well-balanced team, I would have picked these pokemon:

1. Espeon (Powerful Psychic that could match Mew in brute power if you trained Espeon to unbelievable levels). Like most Psychic pokemon, the ability to use Teleport is immensely useful.

2. Gardevoir - Fairy/Psychic type

3. Zoroark or Sableye (Dark types which are very durable and powerful)

4. Aegislash (Powerful offensive steel/ghost dual type with some serious power to bear).

5. Wash-Rotum (Durable electric/water dual type that compliments each other. Water makes electric types more powerful)

6. Skarmory (One of the best defensive tanks in the game you can ever have. It's ability to tank most types and regen ability roost that restores its health makes it nearly impossible to bring down. I used a level 26 Skarmory against a level 80 Rayquaza legendary pokemon that was using it's signature move and it was only doing pultry amount of damage to my Skarmory which it was able to keep healing itself with Roost while also using attacks in between. A level 26 tank vs a level 80 offensive legendary which is very impressive.)

7. Either Blaziken or Charizard (The best fire-type pokemon in the game, period)

The pokemon you chose, don't compliment each other and have so many freakin weaknesses. For example, Hydreigon might look like an impressive dragon but the sheer amount of weaknesses; Fighting 2 Bug 2 Ice 2 Dragon 2 Fairy 4 is incredibly off-putting. That's well over half the damage-type advantages that its weak to which means this pokemon wouldn't last in a prolonged fight and would only be good for getting off an attack or two.

But yeah that's my initial assessment of this story.
Ed chapter 3 . 10/22/2019
great work!
ptl chapter 3 . 10/23/2019
Not only is strategy important in a Pokémon battle.
The fantasy world has a RPG system with levels and all.
And at least two of Tyler’s Pokémon are in their late 60s, meaning they’re juggernauts compared to the Heroes at the beginning of the story and other low leveled characters.
That’s important because, at least in competitive, how you train your Pokémon will decide your victory or defeat.
Maybe the Legendary and Vassal Weapons can help with EV training, maybe adding more stat bonuses that can normally be possible.
By the way, what type of weapon is Tyler’s? It can talk and didn’t cause any cause of rejection with Naofumi’s Shield when they formed a party. Either it’s a special Vassal Weapon or something completely different.
Oh, and what are Tyler’s team levels?
Arie Draconoid chapter 3 . 10/22/2019
Woo! The moment Motoyasu get smashed aside by Dunsparce, one of the most underused Pokemon is VERY SATISFYING to see! Good job buddy.
