You'd be better off having grandpa Arc be traumatized by the "Faunus Rights Revolution", which took place some time after the Great War.

Have to say that Jaune is still being a tad too forgiving to his old man.

Remnant meets the criteria for a Death World, not training your kids to fight is the equivalent to sentencing them to a slow and painful death.

Whether it be Grimm or bandits or both, no defense is absolute and impervious to penetration.

You have to deal with reality how it is, not how you want it to be. You may want your kids not be put in a position where they get their hands bloody. But Life tends to ignore our wishes in such things.

So if it's a choice between them dying or the enemy that wants to harm them. What would a truly responsible parent do?

As opposed to living in Lala land and trying to pretend the world isn't that messed up.

I think that Pyrrha would approve both in his choice of intended (as you had Yang point out in another story. She would probably come back as a ghost if it were Weiss instead) as well as how he handled things with her.

It's what she tried to do after all. And kinda died in the process. (Oh and Pyrrha vs. Daddy Arc would've been a crush match for her. He might be the more efficient fighter, but all that metal makes him easy prey to her Semblance.)

And it kinda surprised me, although it's probably deliberate on his subconscious part, that he never considered what would've hapoened that fateful day, if his father HAD trained him.

Would Pyrrha still have died?
Or would the two of them have prevailed?

Would a more quietly confident Jaune have picked up on her signals sooner, rather than chasing after Weiss?

What if...

The most insidious question of them all.

Shatterpoint and Traitor. The former I've never read, but I am familiar with the ability from Invincible. Shatterpoint fits the personality you were going for in Arc senior. However, between your ability to explore characters personalities, rationales, develop backstories which match with known information and writing an effective fight scene; I kinda would have liked to see an original ability. Now I'm just curious as to what you would have developed.

That shit got dark. Jumped from Jaune character exploration to a slaughter. And yet it was the perfect trap. You have pinpointed exactly how to break Ruby Rose. Not sure Rooster Teeth can use it and remain child friendly content. I never considered a scenario close to this, I figured Cinder's best strategy would be to break Ruby by eliminating her friends first.

I wasn't sure the bridge sat well with the rest of the tale. Initial reaction was it was a jarring shift from Jaune proving himself to his father to a slaughter (effective and brutal touch targeting arteries under armpits by the way). I recall now the groundwork laid from the beginning. Thinking back to senior Arc's warning. Huntsmen are called upon to kill Grimm and people alike.

Well damn Jaune went a long way from where it started. Many times I take a moment to rationalize how a character from the start of the series would react to their older self.

Younger Jaune would be terrified by what he did and but walk the same path knowing that it's the best way to protect his friends.

Guillame literally has Mace Windu's Semblance? Lol.

Wow, that takedown of Ruby was BRUTAL.

Yang's fighting style is definitely a lot better against a tank like Guillame than Ren's, Nora's, or Ruby's, so hopefully this will go better for her.

If Ruby is "more angry and embarrassed than hurt" after being hit so hard she threw up, then she must be REALLY angry and embarrassed. Which makes sense, given she didn't reinforce Crescent Rose with enough Aura to keep it (her?) from being cut in two.

Yeah, sure enough, Yang is doing better against him than anyone else did. 1v1 he'll absolutely beat her though, it seems.

I like how Jaune is calling him "the enemy" to distance himself from his father and help him focus.

Yang and Guillame trash-talking each other is GREAT.

Running with the Star Wars theme, I'm going to guess the bridge scene referenced that one New Jedi Order book with the Jedi holding off the Yuuzhan Vong. (I never read it, just read about it on Wookiepedia.)

I picked up on the semblance reference after you mentioned it, and the bridge thing sounds familiar, but other than that, I got nothing.

I also like how you had Jaune speak French at that one bit. Although I'm 100% positive there is only one language on Remnant, I've always thought it would be cool for some of the families to be able to speak the language their name is based off of (e.g. Arcs - French, Schnees - German, etc.).

The two references you mentioned are Mace Windu and Gandalf. I can’t be bothered to reread this to find the rest, no matter how awesome it was.

Good. I like it. More thinking than what I’d find in a dozen fanfics about Jaune being the son of Ozpin and getting his aura unlocked and kicking ass. I mean, doesn’t hurt that Jaune kicks ass, but you really knocked this one out of the park.

Absolutely loved this, the lines were great and fluid, the action was awesome while staying conceivable. The bridge scene reminder me of the chapter from Eragon where something similar takes place. This fic is a homerun, my only wish is that there was more of it.

this was wonderfully written from top to bottom. I am honestly a little sad to see this is only a one shot. it wouldn't hurt my feelings at all if you did a sequel/continuation of this timeline. maybe Jayne coming to grips with taking those lives on the bridge and how that affects him and everyone around him. ruby in particular

for your first go of writing combat sequences you did excellent and I love that you did so much research into HEMA and actual sword play. I have dabbled in HEMA irl and it is surreal how brutal and efficient sword fighting styles really are. Fiore in particular has a great system for bastard swordplay.
