To confirm what a couple of other reviewers have said, the Longbottoms were attacked only a few days after the attack on Godric's Hollow. The entire point of the attack (from the Death Eaters' point of view) was that Bellatrix wanted answers about where Voldie was/what happened to Voldie, and had some reason to believe that the Longbottoms knew. (Likely Voldie expressed an interest in both families, given what he knew of the prophecy.) It's *extremely* important to Neville's backstory that he never knew his parents from an age that he could remember them, and an almost five-year-old would definitely have memories of his parents, especially given how much his Gran talks about them (or at least his father). It's also likely that he would have displayed accidental magic earlier as well.

To answer another reviewer's comment: actually, Harry was dropped off at the Dursleys the night of November 1st, and the wizards were celebrating (and talking about the Potters, loud and often, including Harry's name) the *day* of November 1st. In other words, the info got around the Wizarding World before Harry was dropped off. And yes, that makes no logical sense... but there it is.

All that Amelia says is true but she did miss at least one trick here. Everything that happened, happened because Fumblemort brought what was supposed to be the Sorcerers' Stone into the SCHOOL! A SCHOOL! Not a high-security vault someplace secret. Yes, Fumblemort is the Headmaster, Supreme Mugwumpand Chief Warlock of the Wizengaamott nut that still doesn't make bringing something so dangerous to the students into that so-called school! Unfortunately, because he does hold all three positions he can get away with such blatant insanity.

Ya know, it became obvious, at least to me, that Fumblemort NEVER had Harry's best interests at heart. Just look at his record of where he placed Harry as a baby then how he ignored Harry's treatment at the hands of his so-called relatives. Follow that up with all the absolute insanity once he got his invite to the so-called school and it becomes crystal clear that there's something extremely wrong-minded with that old man! Now Lily was said to be the brightest witch of her age so that begs the question why did she rely so totally on Fumblemort's plan to keep her family safe? Nothing? No backup plan at all?! Not Bloody Likely! So I believe she would've done something like this or arranged for Harry to be gotten out of the country in secret to somewhere he could not only be safe from the Death Easters but also Fumblemort and the ministry as well. Somewhere he could grow up happy with friends around him. Somewhere he could learn about his family and train his magic as well. So far you haven't said if Harry's family was wealthy, extremely wealthy, obscenely wealthy or just well off. In any case, Harry'd need to be trained to handle and grow whatever wealth his family had. This would be part of Lily's plan but quite obviously not something Fumblemort cares about. He's made no effort what so ever to inform Harry about his family history. Basically, he's been raising Harry like a mushroom. Kept in the dark and fed shit.

I wonder how the Greengrass parents would react if they knew exactly how well Fumblemort had educated Harry about his family magic? Fumblemort doesn't want Harry to know anything about that. Why else would he make damn sure Harry was raised by abusive muggles who also absolutely HATE magic?! He's out to totally destroy the Potter family along with its' magic because he can't have it. I wish someone would put something a fifty caliber round through that old frauds' head! Ya, he may have a lot of knowledge but it's wasted on an old fraud who wants to destroy the magical world just as much as Tommy-boy does! I see that old fraud as being the Primary Dark Lord of the late twentieth to early twenty-first centuries.

I agree with your thinking that Fumblemort could've just not said anything but then he needed to set the stage for Harry becoming the Chosen One according to the Prophecy. Then there's that stupid Blood Ward around the Dursleys' house. Along with all the other crap on the house and Harry personally. I've said it to other authors in reviews and I'll say it again. Fumblemort is a control freak! He HAS to be the one in control of everything. He sees Harry as his way of gaining even more influence and control over the magical world. Unfortunately, I see that as an express trip to the distant past. He intends to drag the magical world even further backwards to the point where the Lords could do whatever they wanted to anyone of lesser standing. The magical world of England is already ass-backwards and falling fast.

I've also always wondered why the Potters stayed in England with Riddle wanting to kill their son. It never really made any sense to me. Nor this whole thing about Harry as a 15 month old baby being able to destroy Riddles' body. Maybe if it was extremely powerful accidental magic it would be possible. But otherwise, I think it's nothing more a publicity stunt on the part of Fumblemort. Nothing has ever been said about any investigation into exactly what happened that night. No one has ever been said to've looked over the entire house room by room to see if anything unusual was done. My belief is that Fumblemort didn't want it done and used his influence to stop it. Thus I can easily see Lily doing something secret to protect her son and heir to the Potter family against people like Fumblemort who'd use him for their own ends.
