I'm so glad there was a happy ending, given, well, the poem. But speaking of the poem, I really liked how you did incorporate it into the story. it was brilliant and wonderful and serious and hilarious and I loved it.
Burr being after Eliza was a bit OOC, but not for the poem, so...
Love Burr's reaction to Alex's 'Mr. Burr, sir,' because it's SO amusing. And it must be; Burr used it when he was confronted after all.
Laurens' comment on the message being about Cornwallis' breakfast and Alex would still call for a drink was hysterical, and when they got inside... Lafayette sounding like an American compared to drunk Alexander, Alexander's comment about John getting him confused with Hercules... brilliant.
Eliza being worried about Alexander as she was tied up, knowing that he could get away unscathed if she could reach the trigger... uh, feels. Thank goodness John was there to warn him.
Though of course he wouldn't listen. So thank goodness Lafayette was there after he got captured.
Alex begging for the soldiers to let Eliza go was beautiful, and his line about looking forward to killing Graves was awesome.
Lafayette's words as he stepped inside were perfect - I could hear the dangerous tone. And then as soon as both Alex and Eliza are free, he just leaves them alone...
And that ending was brilliant and sweet and amusing.

I really liked this! I had heard "The Highwayman" in one of my classes and wanted to write something based on it. I love your idea about it with Hamilton characters. And that Bess/Eliza didn't die.

I loved the Highwayman AND this fanfic. The plot was awesome and the diologue and the description I just Love it all! and I like how it had a happy ending too AHH Hamliza!

Ooh, this is one of my favourite poems! So I had to leave you a few thoughts :D Nice idea to use this! And I do like that you changed the ending, it's always rankled that Bess is dead by the end of the original. I don't know much about Hamilton myself, but enough to appreciate how you've written this. Very nice work for such a short time! As always, your dialogue is awesome and the action moves at a great pace. Nice work indeed!

Wow! This took me back. I don’t think I’ve read The Highwayman since freshman year English in high school, lol. I wish I could write you a rapping review but in lieu of that, let me just say I liked your adaptation of the poem and was pleasantly surprised by the different outcome too. If there’s one other thing I especially enjoyed, it was your use of the dialogue. For some reason, it seemed the banter and the characters’ general manner of speaking made it feel a little more organic and true to the time period. A fun creative little one shot here!
