Now this was quite the eventful chapter, with a lot of unexpected surprises, too! I certainly didn't expect Flannery to use a Kalos Pokemon, but your decision to get rid of her Torkoal makes sense. Sometimes doing something different and going against the grain can really make things interesting, and I applaud you doing so here. I also really liked having the battle take place on Mt. Chimney and making great use of the environment, both good and bad. This was a fun one! I'm excited for what's to come! But stay safe and healthy!

Treecko really evolved into Grovyle.

Good battle! I enjoyed it quite a lot. I really liked what you did with Ash’s character, one of the defining parts about Ash during the Advanced generation was his arrogance/hotheadedness. It’s really nice to see that come into play here, especially when he is a league champion. I’d really quite like to see Ash get humbled the hard way by taking a loss, it’d really force him to re-examine himself in a way he never would be able to if he really wasn’t punished for his overconfidence. To be fair, he did have a mini realization about his issues due to treeko, but a glaring problem like this isn’t fixed so easily I think. I’d really like to see more of this arc. I think Sawyer would be a good character to use to defeat Ash, considering in XYZ Ash had a similar arc with overconfidence in Ash Greninja and losing to Sawyer and Wulfric is what made him realize what he was doing wrong. Seeing Ash lose to Sawyer might be hard, but it’s probably necessary.

Flannery was cool. She’s one of my favorite gym leaders for sure, and I think she was neat. Her hotheadedness was fun, and it was a bit of a departure from her game counterpart’s adorkable nature (though she still showed that here too). Playing up her hot headed side was a good way to mesh with Ash, so I think it worked well. I kinda missed her Torkoal but the Camerupt was a great choice for Treeko’s final fight, plus Fletchinder was amazing. I really love that bird haha, it’s fight with Tailow was pretty amazing.

I always wanted to see Brock play a more prominent role with gym leaders like Flannery, since he himself is a gym leader I think he’d really want to help (and scold if necessary) a gym leader who’s really not doing their job correctly. I think Brock takes the role of gym leader pretty seriously, and he’d really want gym leaders to fulfill their job as a role model for younger trainers well. Oh well, it’s not a big deal at all, it’s more of a personal nitpick I’ve had with the anime version of Brock in general. Situations like those would be really cool to show off the gym leader side of Brock more, but it’s fine.

May was really enjoyable in this chapter too. Her role was small but her quips and just personality is really fun. Misty was pretty decent in the first three arcs, but May is actively shining and making the general interactions more fun. I will say it’s a little silly Ash and Serena have spent so much time with May and haven’t really told her everything. I think it kinda puts a bit of a barrier between her and the rest of the group, and I actually think that could lead to some interesting drama between May and everyone else. May is kinda the outsider of the group right now, and I think she’s smart enough to pick up on that. She’d honestly be in the right to be upset with Ash and Serena not being 100% honest with her. I think that should come to the forefront at some point, and then after Ash and Serena come clean it’d be nice to have them tell May fully about their previous journeys, including characters like Leaf and Gary, and even the tough stuff like Silver and all the chosen one stuff. I don’t know, I just think if they’re traveling together they need to be completely open to each other and I don’t think it’s right for May to be treated like an outsider. Most of this stuff I’m taking about should probably be told to her off screen, but she should still be caught up. It could make a pretty good chapter for Ash and Serena to face backlash from May after they realize that being secretive isn’t really a good way to have a friendship, or even a mentor relationship.

I don’t really have any real negatives for the chapter. It was pretty straightforward and fun, so that’s good! I’m pretty intrigued to see Lisia again, and the Pokestar Studios opening up is quite interesting. I do wonder if Lisia is just naturally peppy and attaching herself to Serena or if she’s playing some kind of game with her, trying to make herself look good by making Serena look bad. It would be quite interesting to see that rivalry play out. A Serena vs Lisia battle would be cool, Serena’s strong but she hasn’t done much heavy battling since her Kanto days, so it would be completely believable for her to get wiped by Lisia especially since she’s been trained by Ruby. That would be a pretty good arc for Serena I think, maybe sparking something in her to really get serious about her own training and not just helping May. It’ll be nice for Serena to have an arc again, she’s been more of a supporting role recently which isn’t bad, but it’ll be refreshing for her to really have to defend herself and keep growing. Just because she’s the Johto Queen doesn’t mean she can be stagnant with her strength, she needs to keep growing and improving like Ash is. I’m not saying Serena’s been written bad or anything, I just am giving suggestions on how to make her feel more active I suppose.

Grovyle was awesome too by the way. He really does already feel like he’s showing the signs of being Ash’s ace on his Hoenn team. Even if Ash has stronger Pokémon in terms of raw power, Grovyle’s speed and trickiness as well as his strength will always make him one of Ash’s strongest Pokémon. I still will never forget him taking down Darkrai, I’d really like to see him get up to that level. I’m excited for Salamence but I hope he doesn’t overshadow Sceptile as Ash’s Hoenn ace, like how Dragonite kinda stole Charizard’s thunder at times. I still am a little bit salty about Charizard vs Blastoise not being a thing, but I understand why you did what you did. It’s just that was Charizard’s biggest non legendary win I think lol. Oh well, either way I am excited for Sceptile eventually.

Overall it was a great chapter! No real flaws in my opinion, and I’m really excited about what’s to come!

I think the pokemon company should hire you to write for them, cause you do a way better job then they do. I enjoyed this chapter as we say how tough Taillow is and we saw growth for Treecko/Grovyle. And it was interesting how you had Flannery be brand new to being a gym leader and had nothing ready. And I won't lie I didn't like how Ash treated her at the start, but was glad he apologized to her later. I can't wait to see what you have planned next.

So the fourth gym battle, this was interesting to say the least. I have a few thoughts on how it went so lets get started.

First off, I see you went with the anime version of her, or just the whole gym bit in general. No real complaints but it would've been nice to see a new spin. I know we didn't get to see her Grandfather appear, but I thought it might be more interesting if say he was still around and instead was training her. Just shake things up a bit.

Secondly, Tailow was my favourite part of the battle. In terms of personality, Swellow was always my favourite of Ash's birds and a close second of his Hoenn team. Glad to see she took down both Magcargo and Flechinder (was surprised to see one too). Part of me wished Flannery had a Typhlosion or Houndoom because it was mentioned her grandfather originating from Johto in the anime (having a Typhlosion himself) but alswell.

I did feel like Corphish was let down in this battle, not really having a chance to shine. I know its difficult to have all Pokemon shine in one battle but I think that's why I expected Ash to use Bagon and he gets overpowered. It would make sense being a dragon type. I do hope that he gets some time to shine sooner or later because he has just sorta been there, for the Hoenn team. Cacnea feels sorta like that too but has had decent moments in both the battle with Roxanne & Wattson. Treecko is the main focus (it feels) and I'll get to him soon, Tailow shined here and Aron has been shining not in battles but just with his personality. So Corphish deserves some attention I feel.

On to the evolution, I didn't expect Treecko to be used and I'm kinda disappointed he was. Especially as the last Pokemon. I mean, it was pretty obvious that he would win so that speech lost a lot of impact in my opinion. I think he should've been used earlier and taken out, then this battle be a catalyst for him learning to control his anger, especially around overheating Camelrupt. Since the speech lost a lot of the dramatic impact, so did the evolution, which felt kinda cheap to be honest. I feel it would've meant more if against Tabathia's Camelrupt and was brought back from a loosing battle.

As for the title of the next chapter, well Serena already has a Seviper so could someone else be getting a Zangoose? I would find it incredibly funny if Ash did just for the irony of the couple having two Pokemon at each other's throats, but I could also see May getting it and having trouble controlling it, with Serena unable to help because of Seviper. It could also become a main battler for her. I could also see Brock getting it if it got seriously injured against Seviper and he healed it. Either way, looking forward to the next one, keep up the good work

I was hoping that you would update soon, and man, this chapter made my day.

I liked the battle against Flannery a lot. Hell, not only is already easily the best battle of Hoenn (not that the others were bad) but among the best battles of this entire fanfic series.. I especially liked the use of enviromental hazards, such a the geysers, in the battle. While I admit they can be hard to pull, I hope you do something similar in the four remaining gym battles (I imagine that the last one will take place on a pool, though).

Your choice of mons for Flannery was interesting. Magcargo and Camerupt where kind of expected, given that there's always an incarnation of her that has at least one of those, or their pre-evolved forms. The inclusion of Fletchinder was quite the surprise, because so far your gym leaders have only used mons that had only been introduced in the generation they were also introduced in, or those that came before them. Still, it's a decision I liked, and hope you give the gym leaders to come Pokemon from the suceeding generations, since it helps make the battle less predictable.

And of course, there's the absence of Torkoal, who was also a surprise given that it's her signature mon, no matter the incarnation. Given that you had Ash catch Torkoal before battling her, I was expecting that you'd have a battle of Torkoals for the final fight (you did that quite a few times in Johto). But yeah, I can understand your reasons to omit her Torkoal.

Still, Flannery's Camerupt provided quite the challenge. Ash's decision to send Treecko and the parallel to Tabitha's Camerupt was a pretty clever one. Treecko's second wind was quite the surprise, but against all odds he pulled a victory and evolved (also, thanks for making the evolution happen after the battle rather than during it, Ash wins a lot of gym battles in both the anime and fanfiction because of that, and it can get a bit annoying).

And gotta say... I enjoyed Lisia's brief return (that thankfully will be expanded next chapter), since I find her hilarious and how she gets on Serena's nerves.

As for the next chapter... given that this one ended with Lisia's return, it is possible that the Zangoose belongs to her? Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Why do I have a feeling that someone in the group will and up catch this Zangoose (Ash Or May) if this one is wild unles this mean we going to see Nicholai.

What a gym battle, and I saw shocked to see a Fletchider. Kudos to Treecko overcoming his anger abs fears of Camerupt...AND EVOLVING TOO!

Looks like SeeSee is going to meet her best friend again. That will be fun. Would be a surprise if Pryce from Unova showed up in Fallabor Town, maybe even Diantha.

I think the next chapter will mark Serena's and Seviper's relationship getting better on a count of a Zangoose. I would be surprised if Ash caught that as a non-canon Pokemon.

Ohh that was a epic battle. I love the surprise of a Fletchinder. Also Treecko evolve was good at this point too. Can't wait to see Grovyle in battle too.

I'm calling it Bagon is next to evolve when Ash battle Norman again. I can see Ash using Grovyle, Torkoal and Bagon in that battle.

Yes, I expect for this new one. Seviper getting her own chapter too. As for a Zangoose, love Ash to catch one, or May or Serena. Make things even more interesting with two Pokemon that have been born to hate each other always, unless trained good.

I am glad to see that Ash has learned the humility he needed ... And that was the same thing that helped Treecko to overcome that anger when he faced Camerupt ... We were also able to see Fletchinder without having to wait for Kalos ... And now It's May's turn for her Pokemon Contest ... But I'm scared for Serena now that she's going to meet up with Lisia ... Now that I think about it ... I thought that the Pokestars Studios were only in Unova? ... Anyway ... But I am concerned about the state of Riley and Yellow's relationship ... I hope they can solve that problem and soon ... Anyway, I can't wait for your next chapter ...!
