Reviews for Knife'sEdge
Sophie Michard chapter 3 . 7/2/2018
Too bad it ends here, because it's a great story.

Oropher has been right, the youngling has been very brave, that awful day.
Sophie Michard chapter 2 . 7/2/2018
Oropher can be a badass, sometimes. Trying to fix almost everything for his people, friends, and family.
Sophie Michard chapter 1 . 7/2/2018
A really sad story... but if Tanglinna really wanna die... he will one day, in battle or by seeking danger.

Oh that deadly look ! Now I now how Thranduil got his ! :P
LightOfLaurelin chapter 3 . 10/8/2011
I usually avoid anything angsty, because when it's not that well written, it just doesn't work for me. But if it's too good, it really makes me want to cry for what happened to them. This was beautiful. I was about to cry pretty much at the end of every chapter. -_-
DLazyBat chapter 3 . 3/21/2008
What an awesome story you have going here! The emotion in this tale has never had me in tears three different times. And I'm not an easy one to make cry with the written word. I noticed you havn't updated this since 2003 and trully hope you havn't given up on it! I'm favoriting it as soon as I get done writing this so I can whatch it closely for updates! _
A. Person chapter 3 . 5/3/2005
Wow... what a depressing story. Poor Tanglinna! Poor Oropher! Poor Thranduil! :.( I don't understand how anyone could survive after going through all of that - especially Tanglinna. (And Oropher didn't. :( )I would have committed suicide a long time ago. Now I am going to cry. *reaches for hanky* Well, at least the survivors' lives are better now... (starts bawling at story on screen)
Elf of Sirannon chapter 3 . 7/29/2004
Aw, lil Filigod died. That's really sad. This whole realm just seems to cop the brunt of a lot of stuff, poor Wood Elves.

I get the feeling Filigod and Bronadui are the Second Age equivalent of Tavor and Brethil. :) They were kids together, they grew up and became warriors together, etc. Do you see what I mean?

I like how in this particular story you start a paragraph only referring to "he", so the reader has to piece together the clues to figure out who you are referring to. That is a good writer's trick, and gives the reader credit because you don't tell, you simply show, and let the reader figure the rest out for themself.

This chapter is making me cry, and I'm at work! Oy!

Aw...lil Thranduil in his mama's belly - that's a really cute thought. :) So Tanglinna isn't really that much older than Thrandy, if he's six years old when Thranduil is born. I always got the feeling he was a lot older than Thrandy.

Poor bubby being marked like that.

Well I liked this very much, you filled in a lot of gaps regarding Oropher's death and Thranduil's ascenscion (sp?) to be King of Greenwood the Great. I hope you'll write more of this one.
Elf of Sirannon chapter 2 . 7/28/2004
Hello! Me again.

Once again I love the way you describe Thranduil as so young - the regard he has for his father and how regal Oropher is, it's sort of the way you describe Legolas a regarding his ada later on.

Aw...you are being awfully mean to Tanglinna...he has led such a traumatised life, how many more bad things do you want to happen to him? Oh that's right, Smeagol. :)

I like Thranduil's thoughts on what he would do without Brenilass. I forget - how did she die? I don't remember if I've ever heard you mention.

Oh wow, it just struck me - Tanglinna is the Greenwood equivalent to Glorfindel. He is to the house of Oropher as Glorfindel is to the line of Earindil. Did you realise you had created such a person when you first started writing about Tanglinna?
Elf of Sirannon chapter 1 . 7/28/2004
Poo! I wanted to add something to my review of A Matter Of Song and won't accept another review from this IP adress...poo.

What I wanted to say was, have you read Nilmandra's History Lessons 1? I love the way she portrays Maedhros in that story. Kinda the same way you do - bound to an oath, realising the killing is an evil thing, but powerless to stop. He really redeems himself in History Lessons, don't you think? And he sort of does in A Matter of Song too - the way he lets Tanglinna live like that, it would have been so easy to just kill him too. And then who would the house of Oropher turn to when they need help?

Such as in this story - I really really like Knife's Edge, I always wondered what events were in Tanglinna's past and why he had no wife or children of his own. I like, I like.

I am glad you put Bronadui in this story, it makes me sad for Brethil even though Brethil isn't actually born yet. The fact that Bronadui is so young at this point puts it all in context.

I like the phrase "all the children of Iluvatar" being used to refer to all races, because it reminds us we really are all the same at the end of the day.

I like the idea of Thranduil being young-ish; rarely do we think of him as someone's child, even though we know he is Oropher's ion. Rarely in the fanfic world is he portrayed as anything but the mighty king of Greenwood the Great.

So are Thranduil and Brenilass married yet or just engaged?

I love the way you ended this chapter too, making Thranduil look so vulnerable. I think because of the way he is portrayed in The Hobbit, not many people associate that word "vulnerable" with Thranduil.
Gwilwileth of Imladris chapter 3 . 7/20/2004
*Bows before your story greatness.* Keep up the good work Tree! Oh I have a picture of Elu, but he's elf. He's crying. I really like it. In the back it says," He was an elf once."

My friends liked the actual drawing so much they stole it after I scanned it. *pouts*

Keep up the good work mellon.

Namaarie,

Gwilwileth.
Elfique chapter 3 . 5/24/2004

Hannah chapter 3 . 1/14/2004
Are you ever going to update this? If you aren't then it's really a shame. Rare are stories like this and very interesting they are when they pop up. Especially yours. I hope you plan to continue it. :) It really is quite good. The end of this chapter made me cry...::laughs at herself::
Anyway, have a lovely day or night, whenever it is you read this review. Fare thee well.

Ceana chapter 3 . 10/14/2003
I've been very naughty reading your wonderful chapters and not reviewing. Honestly, I was too busy thinking about what I had read and just forgot that authors need feedback too. Besides, what could I possibly say that others haven't said better and with more flair.

Keep writing those wonderful words and cast your lovely light into the dark corners of the Fanfic world. You give a great deal of joy to many readers.
