It's very her that Shinji always greets Asuka the same way, always means it, and Asuka is always afraid of it. And spends so much of her time trying to drink herself to numbness on 'pisswater no self-repsecting German would drink'. Because she doesn't.

very beautiful tale! a lot of these stories tend to miss the chance to have a bitter sweet ending like this. some good plot twists that i hadnt expected. Again a great story that is a quick read
