Loved the humour in the title of this chapter, even if I wholeheartedly disagree!

[Slade looked at the giant stack of picnic baskets, "Serves me right for taking a gig from a bear with a necktie that sounds like Ed Norton…" Slade leaned down. "Might as well make the best of it…"]

This line was great, especially followed by the reveal they were liverwurst sandwiches.

["My mother always told me I should help the weak and elderly," there was a hint of mocking in his voice.

"You're such a brat!" Slade snarled in a low voice.]

Also really enjoyed this exchange - interesting dynamic between the three of them. Great little bit at the end with all their reactions to the sandwiches, especially enjoyed Mary's "I'm gonna need another funeral!"

Really loved this line at the end - "We've both looked into the abyss, so tell me, Mary, will you blink?"

This was great for exploring William Cobb's history and establishing a lot of ominous overtones for (potential) future plotlines. You can really feel Mary's love for her family and her complicated relationship with them.

["There's a reason I don't want my son to become a Talon. It's because they want to make him do it, because they want to force his hand, just like you. I offered to join them when my half-sister told me they'd chosen him that night a long time ago when he was ten."]

You've really communicated her desire to keep him safe and away from the life of being an assassin without the choice to define his own destiny.

I also really liked Slade's quips amidst the serious subject matter. - ["I can see the resemblance," Slade noted.] Especially considering the glimpses of Mary as a child with William, it's sad to see that Mary had to take on a life that she doesn't truly want in order to save her son. You've done a great job of communicating that loss and the unspoken desire for things to have turned out differently. Great job!

Interesting start - completely fandom blind but I liked how you set up the introduction of Robin's mother appearing and Slade's reasoning as to why she had come to him. Mary's first few lines gave a great impression of her resilience and intelligence. Really liked this line - "How nice, my killer knows who I am, at least make it painless, all right?" The Court of Owls sounds interesting.

[He hesitated. She was Mary Grayson. Her death had consequences. Her first death had been the "birth" of Robin, his greatest enemy. What would the consequences of her second "death" be?]

This was my favourite part of the chapter. Slade's POV was intriguing, especially the tendency towards thinking through the violent possibilities in front of him. I liked how assessing and smug he came across in eyeing up Mary's motives and Raptor's place in the negotiations. The picture and autograph line was great, as was the comment about Raptor being a loyal dog.
