Woah. That was intense. I loved it.

Wow, what a gripping story! It had me engaged from start to finish, and by the end I wanted to cry. I love your characterisation of Shizuru and Natsuki. They're so fiercely protective of each other in their own ways. The way you fill in the blanks in explaining why Shizuru acted the way she did in the anime gives such weight to her character and breaks my heart. That final bit too, when she recalls their death in the anime, and discounts her chance of solace this time, was heartbreaking. Juxtaposed with Natsuki's sudden appearance and affirmation of her love... it made for a great ending to this really dark tale.

Thanks for sharing this story with us! When I was a kid, I used to read your Mai-Hime/Mai-Otome stories whenever I felt nostalgic about the characters. Your stories were alway so heartfelt, offbeat and entertaining. I can only remember snippets, but Natsuki as an undercover cop, and that other story where she landed herself in the doghouse for misconstruing her relationship with Shizuru still make me giggle even now. Damn. It is dark like you said. Dark enough that you had Saru-chin dead. I would go ballistic too. It’s very fitting that you used dissociative disorder for Shizuru’s manic state. Looking forward to the progression of this story. Thanks for sharing!
