This is so cute! I really like your perspective on why the veil. I think a lot of the speculation was more that his skull might be sensitive or, as you mentioned, Elias does not want to frighten people, but I really like the connection you made about eyes. They say eyes are the window to the soul. Guess only Chise was brave enough to look.

Though I won't lie, any time Elias got angry, while the snapping jaw, razor fangs and barrage of sharp thorns are all terrifying elements; it's his eyes that really make him look scary! But only when he's really mad.

This deserves more reviews! I’m up at 2 in the morning right now, looking for some good fanfiction to read and this is the kind of content I love! This was so well written, and so beautifully imagined. I agree with the other commenter, this feels like it could have been in the anime or manga, it’s so spot on. I loved it. Beautiful. Great job! That final line...ugh, my heart. Chise's quick understanding and sympathy without pity was nicely in character, and it's easy to see why he loves her so much. Elias's admission of his pretense for hiding his eyes was painful, but I'm glad he trusts her enough to tell her the truth. How lonely that must feel, and for so many years.

Loved this. Such a great scene based on those few words from the manga.
