Reviews for History Lessons
chinoiserie chapter 1 . 6/3
“Elladan, why did the Noldor leave Aman?" Istuion turned to the dark head that was nearly resting on top of the table.
"Because they wanted their own kingdoms and lands," Elladan sighed.

I understand that they are young and this is more essay lenght question but an answer that doesn’t include
words Morgoth and Feanor doesn’t really meet a passing grade lol.

It would be odd for Elrond not explain himself of his parents or when he was born, even if I could see him not telling on his own about his “fostering”.
ksecc1 chapter 22 . 3/12
Thank you for writing this. I’m always fascinated at different peoples’ take on why the Peredhel chose as they did.
Anoriel chapter 24 . 2/12/2019
I loooove this story! Actually made me cry...
I love how you portray all the characters, especially Elrond... Its good that he told his story at the end of the day. I'll be reading the sequel as soon as possible!
sai19 chapter 24 . 11/14/2018
Wow. The angst. I have literally cried for the past two hours reading these last few chapters. Out of all the things that make me cry the most, the death of my dear Tolkien characters is at the top. Maybe unsurprisingly, Elrond is the one to make me cry the hardest (every damn time!)

This story was written with such depth, expertise and skill that it has blown me away. I don't know if you are still active and reading reviews, but in case you are, I wanted to thank you for taking the time to write this beauitful story (and its sequels, which I'll devour asap). Much love x
Guest chapter 1 . 9/14/2018
Hello Nilmandra
Really enjoying your History Lessons series, so beautifully written and the characters so real and full of compassion and love, the elves seem more real...Galadriel especially, laughing and joking, magical. Your a fantastic writer.
Much love and blessings
Rookblonkorules chapter 2 . 4/23/2018
I love your Glorfindel. This is such an interesting idea too.
wswpub chapter 22 . 2/28/2017
This is the 2nd or 3rd time I've read this and I love it each time. It never fails to move me. I could easily add Elrond to the list of people I'd love to meet (altho I'd probably be to shy and feel to inadequate). I do love your writing and I really wish you were still writing hour tales.
wswpub chapter 24 . 7/18/2016
I've read this great, wonderful, excitingsorrowful story once again and still have to say this is one of the best in fan fiction. You took each character and made them seem real. You gave them a depth, character and a uniqueness that even Tolkien couldn't do. You made them seem real.
Altarian chapter 24 . 6/20/2016
What a wonderful way to learn something of the long history of Middle-Earth decribed in Silmarillion...without the need to actually read it! :) Well, I have read it some time ago... come to think of it, I have probably read it twice! However I do not remember much of it, just the main events and very vaguely. And until now I have been dreading to read it again.
But after reading your story, I am really considering reading The Silmarillion again...but not before reading the sequels to this story first!

Now to the story itself: I like the idea of changing between the timelines of the two ages. I think it provides distraction and respite from the grave events of the first age and simultaneously keeps the suspense - at least for people like me who dont remember what happens next :)
I find your portrayal of the various characters rather interesting: Celeborn and Glorfindel are a bit more playful than I would imagine them to be, but I am enjoying them in this story. As for Elrond, at first he seemed rather insecure to me and I wanted to point that out to you but then I realized he has another few thousand years before him to become the elf lord depicted in the LOTR... so all is well :)

Well, I hope that my ramblings are understandable, because I am not a native english speaker and I seldom write so long and complicated reviews :)
PSW chapter 24 . 8/29/2015
You've done an amazing job here - thanks so much for all the time you took w this. I really enjoyed it!
PSW chapter 4 . 8/28/2015
This story is so interesting so far! :-) I have read the Silmarillion, but it was a long time ago - so the Silmarillion 101 for little elves was very helpful. :-P I did always think their belief that they could not be released from the oath one of the most tragic bits of the whole book...
Sarahml chapter 14 . 1/3/2015
Excellent and cute chapter! :) makes up for the sadness in the earlier ones. Good to see healing start for little Elrond.
Sarahml chapter 9 . 1/3/2015
Love it! The best gap filler ever... and the domestic bliss portrayed here is a great contrast to the war filled LotR that we are all used to. The peaceful life of Rivendel seems to be the motivation which makes people dedicated to protecting the middle earth against invading forces of evil. Elrond's and many others' joyful family life was what was at stake when the battles raged on
Sarahml chapter 5 . 1/2/2015
Oh this chapter is heart breaking ... I did not know Elrond had such tragic childhood... and then what later happens to Celebrian and Arwen... TmT poor poor Elrond..
Sarahml chapter 4 . 1/2/2015
I am but a late reader but oh boy this is a very fun piece! I found Silmarilion incredibly boring to read... heh but you really make this relatable and entertaining to read! Thanks!
