this was a great read. and I'd like to read more of it. but this story hasn't been updated in over a year. so tbe odds of seeing another chapter are unfortunately low

This is an excellent story and I do hope that you'll come back to it at some point. Elite Dangerous is really just one of my favorite settings.

So will Palin claim he got kinetic barriers from a Guardian institute/research planet? Would they be more useful against thargoids who use a corrosive substance? How long before they start using it to speed up computers by reducing the weight of Electrons? Since it can compress materials couldn't it be massively useful in heatsinks? Like a fridge? Not only could heatsinks be smaller, but less energy could be used. Also, I don't know if infantry have energy shields, but I assume even if they had personal fusion generators, it wouldn't produce enough power, so kinetic barriers could mix up infantry combat, everyone will be using lasers...

You should check out the wiki. Read up on the hyperdrive and the Sirius corporation, Sirius rule etc. Also the FSD was first created in 3270 and became public in 3297 or so. Its very new and part of why there's so many pirates and wars.

This is simply brilliant. It feels so real, the world is well crafted, and while I haven't read the books it does seem dedicated and accurate to lore from what I know. People are acting as you would expect around aliens, cautious, curious and hesitant. Every word and gesture second guessed. While you haven't focused on combat, it feels like you've accurately represented what their technology is like. While at sublight, ME ships are faster in straight lines, they turn slower and are basically giant guns. On the other hand Elite ships have lots of hard points are slower in a straight line, but more manevurable and can always bring guns to bear. Elite capital ships are similar to Asari Dreadnoughts in focusing on broadsides and escaping before being destroyed. Lasers give Elite a close range advantage, their Fighters and smaller ships can damage all ME ships, but they can also be destroyed quickly by mass drivers if caught in the open and unable to escape. It's rather refined.

The Unladen speed of the Swallow depends on whether it European or African. So the answer is yEs.

Just like to mention something.
"Your ship is quite comfortable parked inside the corona of a star."
And Elite has lasers that can cut through hulls in minutes. Despite even CIVILLIAN vessels with stock armour being able to refuel hydrogen from a star. Not to mention any exploration vessel can cross the entire galaxy in days. Yeah Elite is kinda bullshit ain't it. It would probably have been even more powerful if Earth hadn't been glassed by the thargoids destroying who knows how much technology and knowledge.
