So I'm rereading this, because it's saturday and also fanfic-cowrimo and I need a fanfic fix, but because obviously I already reviewed this chapter, I have to go on anon to do it again lol.

I loved the dream sequence! The thought that he dreams about HER for one, about kissing her so lovingly? ANd then two facts: It's his dream, EVIL Mamoru's dream, and what's in it is not hot and heavy sex like you'd imagine if he just felt lust to her, but it's a tender kiss, something so much more... sweet? Small? Intimate? And this is coming from his evil side! And, much more importantly, HE dreams of the name Mamoru. Not her. It's ringing in HIS brain, HIS brain brought this name up. Not something that, like in the dream, she said and it feels slightly familiar, no, it's in HIS MIND.
(Except, ya know, unless they shared that dream, which is totally a possibility, so, then I didn't say anything lol. But, ya know, if it WERE coming from him, that would be a sure sign that all the memories are THERE and accessible!)

So, a note first on her musings on the "cheap" gift and packaging: I love that you put that in there. In fact, this is one thing I love about Checkmate, too: That Usagi lives in a shoebox apartment, that Mamoru obviously has the need for a job. This makes this so much more real. Because yes, Naoko liked to make them all rich, but... we readers are likely not driving Ferraris. In fact, I mean, we all know it's just the 1% that do, and they're not us by a far stretch. So, this makes this so much more relatable to most people reading this, and it feels... familiar, all at once. Like, I can relate to this. I've also reused old ribbons, I also live in a small apartment, I also know what it feels like to have to safe up for a lot of shit. Especially at that age! So, yes, thank you for making them scramble for money all the time, for finding the beauty in small gifts and small spaces, because this feels so much more real and relatable!

Number two; THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING HIM A HIGH SCHOOLER, FOR KEEPING THE MANGA AGE GAP!

Number three; I love this. THis was so adorable! Usagi's nerves as she placed the gift (I'll be honest here, for a second I thought she'd be giving it to Motoki, and have this go the cute first season interaction route, but obviously it became obvious really fast that you're going crush first and was delighted! It's so cute!) her heartbreak when she saw him enter with the bags of chocolotae (so reminiscent for me of this beautiful chapter of time after time, and I'm SO happy to see something similar here because I loved that scene!) And I'm so happy he held on to each and every one, like Usagi would want, treating all these expressions of feelings with a good and gentle heart, not throwing them in the trash, even if he did not return those feelings! And that she is just as kind, walking onto the school grounds on white day thinking only positive thoughts on whoever couple would be so happy to cause the display? So her, so them, thank you for that! THIS IS SO SWEET

And in general, the white day and valentine's tradition is SO VERY JAPANESE and I love it so so so much when fics stay true to japanese culture, so, ya know THANK YOU I LOVED THIS.
