omg that was gut wrenching. i'm been avoiding work all day reading your fic and now i've had to stop and go back to work because i'm emotional and i know work will kill the emotions i'm feeling. p.s. i'm loving this fic. even if it makes me feel things.

The friendship between the nurses, the squabbles with Fletcher and the general tone of the camp is beautifully written and designed considering there has obviously been a time skip from Alice arriving at camp! It's the little details like complaining about the fruit and the silent communication with Thompson that captures the relationships that have been built in between the chapters, without giving too much detail which may not be what you want to show! Brilliant!

I like how much thought goes into the writing process of making the story accurate and believable. This is one of the most historically accurate stories I have ever read, with good references to the important events of the story and the significant places that tie in to the story but also fit into the historical timeline! Having Arnold as an outside narrator in the first section to (I hate using this term for everything but it works for it) set-up the plot and the characters that are important to the story! It's very impressive how much you are able to keep up with multiple OC characters and keep their characterisations stable whilst developing the plot!

The complete difference between Alice's personality is so jarring to see - you can really see how the war changes her when re-reading compared to how she is in the beginning! I have an obsession with this story and I can't tell you how many times I've had a bad day or a panicky moment and needed something faniliar and stable to keep me sane and happy and this is it for me - one of like 5 stories/series that can do that for me! Thank you! I also really like Cable and how the chapter really sets up his part in the story too, and his involvement in the entire story!

I like looking back now and really taking my time rereading and seeing all of the set-ups, like later in the story where we see the pictures being taken that seem so insignificant now as a way to introduce her to WW2 but are actually plot points explored later in the story! I love how much the chapters really tie into each other, and reading back you can see the characters develop and grow in personality! Love it!

So I've reread this story and Reaching in the Dark so many times over. When I need a story to read that makes me feel all good and makes me really think about the writing technique and quality of writing. I'm so happy going back and reading it all again that I'm going to do a full read and (hopefully) review of both stories because I love them so much! Absolutely can't wait to get stuck in and see what little details I can pick up the 1000th time round! I love this introduction chapter - introducing Arnold and Alice, which spins the entire story off. It sets up the entire story so well, including some little hints and bits that I think set up both WIAS and RITD plotlines really well.
