Honestly? Lancaster. There's not nearly enough genuinely good Lancaster out there and as you pointed out, the chemistry between Jaune and Ruby so far has been good. Very organic, very believable and it helps that Jaune's also already formed a friendship of sorts with Yang.

Not to mention that Ruby has just a bit more in common with Kitty Pryde than Pyrrha does. Not to mention that Arkos has kind of been done to death and change is always nice.

Also, another good chapter that features a believably smoother Jaune, especially one who rubs off on others quite well. Looking forward to seeing this, especially for the inevitable osmium-bodied Jaune. An idea like this has fuck-tons of potential (as Colossus is a motherfucking beast) and it's definitely one I hope to see more of soon!

Oh. Weapons? I honestly don't think Jaune needs them - since he's likely to be on a team with Ren, I'd suggest going for the martial arts training. Add in possible training for Yang (which would further push the Jaune/Ruby relationship and do so in a way that's entirely believable) and he's set. If Jaune needs ANYTHING, maybe some kind of knife. A kukri knife, or a pair of them would be perfect.

Anyways, can't wait for the next chapter!

On the Arkos vs. Lancaster debate: why not pair him with both? The three of them have quirks and strengths that greatly compliment each other and it can be an experience for all of them to enjoy.

I mean, I would say maybe wait to write Pyrrha. Deciding to make it Lancaster would be fine, but leaving it up to a decision like that last minute seems kinda sus.

I love this story so far. It had me laughing to tears!

Have to note that you haven't done an Arkos pairing before AFAIK. So you trying to dodge out of it is kinda ... conspicuous. *shrugs*

Because you going "good chemistry with Ruby", when Pyrrha hasn't even had her turn to speak with him, as well as the chemistry with Yang being good in this chapter..

Well.. Just seems like you're purposely ducking the pairing. *shrugs*.

Anyway, did you consider the "Rose Gold" option, rather than just being binary?

Have Ruby come up with the idea of sharing him, due to how her dad handled things with the ladies in his team. (What with her own experiences with losing her mother and not wanting her own eventual kids going through that. Two moms would help deal with that.)

Plus, she's well aware that she's 2y younger than they are, so physical "needs" would be different. Doesn't mean she can't build up the emotional foundation for a longterm relationship with the both of them.

(Not as if all three aren't socially awkward dorks anyway. So they understand each other better than the rest would. Remember the heels thing at the dance? Pyrrha would actually teach her how to move in them, something her teammates didn't bother with. So yeah, the three could mesh nicely together.)

Add to this that both she and Pyrrha are inexperienced in romantic relationships anyway. (As in no prior experience at all.) So they won't quite have the same preconceptions that others may have.

So the both of them snuggling up to him, one on either end and with him flabbergasted about what they're doing, could be amusing.

Kinda surprised that Blake hasn't wondered about being able to get an autographed set with the revelation about Jaune's sister being the author.

Plus, the idea that 3 out of 4 of the RWBY ladies end up as "Ninjas in Love" fans with Weiss still being the prudish one is kinda hilarious.

You might even be able to jones this into an early Pyrrha talk. With her being a fan as well (one of the few stress relief options she has) and having had to keep it a secret for PR reasons, but with so many classmates also being public fans...

Finally a chance to let her hair down. And just be Pyrrha and not "The Invincible Girl".

(And yes, this idea is partially lifted from "Dirty Laundry" by "Solvdrage" a completed Darkos story.)

You say you have nothing against Arkos, then why pray tell are you repeating the Arkos Haters argument against the ship?

Him not knowing her merely caught her attention as a possible friend, not as a love interest.

Her thinking him kinda cute sets up a crush at best. No different from Sun with Blake or Weiss with Neptune.

It's the time she spent with him and how he kept treating her liked a valued friend, is what made her fall for him.

You see that often enough in RL with friends ending up attracted to each other, even if that's not why they ended up friends in the first place.

As for her being too motherly? Like Ruby slotting into the younger sister role you mean? Attitudes in other fanfics have no bearing here, only there evolved selves of this story and possibly their canon selves.

I love your updates to the characters. As for the pairing. The dynamic I see you building here really seems to me that Ruby and Jaune are quickly building a close sibling like relationship. I know you plan on having a more mature Ruby here but I really see her as an Ace and more interested in weapons and fighting grimm right now that being into boys OR girls. I also think that with this flirtier more aware Jaune (which I absolutely love) that he will notice Pyrrha's budding feelings for him. If you put Arkos on a slower burn than cannon or many other fics portray I think you can have a really solid story that way.

Interesting

Hm, this looks interesting so far. Jaune is a bit more confident than usually, but he still seems to have a pretty similar dorky-ness to him. The chapters are a little short, but very well written overall. I’ll give this a follow and see where it goes.

Also, my vote would go for Lancaster.
