KingOfSummer 245 chapter 64 . 7/12 Another great chapter wish you luck |
jean d'arc chapter 64 . 7/12 Oh! Another amazing chapter! This is by far one of the best stories I've ever read. The characters are so real, a far cry from most of the caricatures we have on this site. This was clearly seen here with Alyssa, Arya and Catelyn. Alyssa understands ruling. I liked what she said about Arya disliking her lessons. Many authors make it look "cool" that Arya would disregard lessons and just spend her time playing with a sword. But a smart person knows that you also need to train the mind. Allowing Arya to skip lessons as we see in so many fics is not smart in my opinion. On the contrary, it just perpetuates the idea that Arya is nothing but a spoiled brat who wants the perks of being rich and noble but none of the responsibilities and duties it implies. I'm glad Alyssa saw this. And I liked her comparison to her own childhood. Alyssa was not noble, and would never inherit. Gaining respect on the battlefield was the only way to make a name for herself. Maybe to prove her point, she could have ask Arya how many times she saw her father train, or if her brothers aside from training did not attend lessons as well. Just to show her that being noble is not just fun and games. It's more difficult than being low born sometimes. And I'm glad Arya understood this and accepted it. I'm glad she didn't throw a tantrum and saw what her aunt was saying. It shows how much she is growing. I like how Alyssa is becoming more than just a leader in times of war. She's a true ruler. Even if she doesn't want to, Alyssa knows she has to marry - another sacrifice she needs to make as the good ruler she is (or wants to be). I loved her conversation with Catelyn sorting out the possible candidates and their pros and cons. I have to admit I was chuckling at her list of requirements. For her, she's not choosing a love partner, but the most convenient business partner. Not many authors here understand that marriages those days were not an act of love but a commercial and political contract. Love between the two partners would have been a plus, but not part of the negotiation conditions. Oh, the Catelyn bit broke my heart. Her life is but a shadow of what it once was: exiled from the North, unwanted in the Riverlands, losing all her children. I hate it when people blame her for the war. That's just so short-sighted and petty! I mean, she arrested the guy she knew had tried to kill her son, for God's sake! If the information she had been given had been true and Tyrion had indeed been guilty, she would have been the hero. And why should she not trust the information Baelish gave her? He was a dear friend from childhood who actually risked treason just to help her. It would have been stupid not to trust him. Saying that she should have predicted Tywin's reaction is just ridiculous. It's like blaming a girl who got raped for wearing a skirt: "Oh, she should have known men would get horny". My God! It's not the girl's fault, it's the men who rape who are wrong! It is not the woman who arrests a murderer who is wrong, but the man who ravages a whole kingdom for pride. And to have her own countrymen blame her and punish her like that is terribly unfair. She's just conveniently being used as a scapegoat - and nobody lifts a finger... But I think you got her character right. Even if she doesn't want to, she knows needs to marry. Of course she doesn't want to marry - she's still grieving Ned and will never cease to do so - but Alyssa found a way to make it seem as her duty. Catelyn never put her own needs and desires above others (which is why I found her asking for a Trial by Seven very out of character a few chapters back). She is very dutiful - perhaps too dutiful for her own good. I have always thought her to be one of the most dutiful and submissive women in the saga. Any other woman would have been more vocal towards Ned in regards Jon (or actively downright refuse to accept it) or would have actually done something about it against Jon, would have spoken up when the Northern Lords shut her up for being a woman, or when Robb himself did not listen to her. But she never did. She always just meekly lowered her head and accepted everything (which is why I find it so ridiculous when people portray her as a hysterical lunatic!). Her unquestioned submissiveness and sense of duty is for me her biggest flaw. So if she sees that politically speaking it is her duty to remarry, she will (whether she wants to or not) ... I really loved the conversation between the two sisters. They have come to respect and care for one another. They have the sisterly relationship Lysa and Cat should have had in canon. Each one is seeing the true worth of the other. Catelyn sees how much Alyssa has grown and how she's turning into a good Lady of the Riverlands. I liked that Alyssa sees that Catelyn is indeed very smart and a very efficient Lady of a House (be it Riverrun when she was young or Winterfell when she married Ned). And letting her help with choosing a husband for Alyssa was a good token. Probably Alyssa wouldn't have needed Cat's help, but having Cat's perspective and input was certainly very useful. And it was a nice gesture to make her feel useful and give her something to do. ... I thought you would have the two Tully sisters marry together, echoing what had happened twenty (or so) years ago... LOL! Great chapter! You never fail to amuse and surprise. I'm sad to see this story drawing to an end. Thanks! |
Guest chapter 64 . 7/12 Alyssa is a real cunt. |
Guest chapter 63 . 7/10 please send out chapter 64 out today! I love this fanfic. I cannot wait to see how the other kingdoms react when they hear of Riverland literally becoming an island. Joffery, Tyrion, Cersei, Jaime, and Tywin all discuss about Alyssa Tully. Tywin is angry when his children and grandson blame him for the failure of the war, when it should be his children's fault to begin with. |
LadyKatherine29 chapter 64 . 7/12 There is always the chance that Rickon will die. If so this leaves Sansa next in line to WinterFell. Along with being what would bring legitimization to anyone's rule. I'm not saying Bolton would kill him, but Ramsey is a mental insane serial killer. An just as likely to murder his father as he is Rickon. Should he get it into his head to do so. Arya would be the last one in the line if Sansa dies without children. The last one the North would except as having any right to rule. |
Guest chapter 63 . 6/24 chapter 64 please |
Guest chapter 63 . 6/19 I love chapter 63, I cannot wait to see chapter 64. Catelyn Stark she is or will be kicked out of the North due to her actions in starting the war. Will she live in Riverrun again? How will the other River-Lords react to her, since her actions caused Tywin to attack them? |
vesine chapter 63 . 6/19 Let's just tye everytong up! |
wawo20 chapter 63 . 6/10 Love the chapter. Nicely done |
Guest chapter 63 . 6/9 whoa |
maof chapter 63 . 6/9 Fantastic chapter and i cant wait for more. As someone who is big fan of history, mainly battles and strategy this story is one if the few i read as soon as i can, big fan of what you do. Thats said i am interested what do you plan for future, do you plan on doing time-skip 4-5 years ? As other reviewers mentioned north and political development with Boltons, i see what happened in north as something that happens all yhe time in europian medieval history, and its not as significant as they think. Boltons cant rule alone, they need starks as they are uniting factor of north. I would see it as boltons being more trusted by future starks , some marriage between both families maybe but from historical cases of what happens to tutor is that king in this case young stark heir will become independent and rid of boltons with his support, will be cooperating with boltons, etc. That being said I am curious what your plan is in the end. |
Greatazuredragon chapter 63 . 6/9 Nice chapter, good work. |
jean d'arc chapter 63 . 6/9 Wow! Great! As I have said before, the Riverlands had everything to be the most powerful kingdom. I'm glad you've done Edmure justice. The show made him a joke and merely used him comedy relief and to make the so-called heroes look badass. I really liked how he re-shaped the land and has all these plans to have his kingdom ready in case conflict sparks up again. Now, as another reviewer mentioned, what will be the diplomatic relations with the North? It's true that the Starks and the North dragged the Riverlands into a war of their own making (the Riverlands had nothing to do with what Ned, Cat and Robb did). It's also true that both kingdoms helped each other and the Riverlands were able to win thanks, in no small part, to things the North did. It's also true that the Riverlands abandoned and deserted the North and that action helped put the final nail on the defeat the North suffered. It's true that the Starks no longer rule the North in practice, but on paper it still belongs to them and Rickon, who is half Tully. Catelyn is the link between the Riverlands and the North, but (even though I don't think she knows it yet) she's being exiled from her home by the Boltons... So? Not easy... Great chapter! Thanks |
