Reviews for Aftermath
MegK1978 chapter 1 . 5/3
From one New Yorker to another, thank you. It's only been recently that I thought about how certain fictional dwellers would react and/or cope with the events of that day. I'm a little shocked that Demona got into Broadway's head so quickly, even if for a moment. At the same time, the gargoyles reciting their own memorial rites for those who were lost that day was beautiful and perfect.
It didn't QUITE make me cry, but you came close. Thank you for that.
Kodachi Claws chapter 1 . 4/9
This was certainly quite a heavy hitter.

Some may argue the best thing to do in regards to the WTC attacks would be to pretend they never happened, but in doing so would be to turn a blind eye against such tragedies, especially when a work of fiction is set in the real world, I think is even worse

Unlike Marvel, the protagonists have a perfectly legitimate excuse for letting this happen. Again, one could argue the only flaw being that Coldstone, Coldfire, and evening the mutates would be able to rescue at least some people, but that would run the risk of being hurtful to those who lost loved ones during the attacks.

I really liked seeing the better nature of Xanatos and even members of the Illuminati come out from this. Of course, Demona’s both jaded and still hellbent on destroying humanity. Going back to Marvel, one of their criticisms of their WTC special was that when they tried to show off their villains being sympathetic, many like Dr. Doom were pointed out of have done things on par if not worse than the terrorists who attacked that day. So in that sense I’m glad you kept Demona in character and still managed to offer something meaningful in this tribute story.

And I liked the end when the Gargoyles witnessed the New Yorkers stepping in to protect the Muslim couple. As much as I would have liked to see Goliath thrash around a few racists, it was more important to show the Gargoyles there is good in us and that we are worth protecting in light of such an atrocity.

I also understand what it’s like to write a story with elements that would upset some readers. All I’ll say is, for better or worse, it is sometimes necessary to get it out there, just to banish some demons we may carry and simply take responsibility for it afterwards
Nightfury18 chapter 1 . 9/5/2018
Thank you for posting this story. As I don't remember much of this horrible tragedy, I believe it is very important to know of the sacrifices families have made as well as the souls lost.
Ed chapter 1 . 5/25/2018
"As always, I'd prefer a solution over vengeance." Nailed it. Man, I didn't know how you'd land Xanatos but you nailed it

"A monument to my ego". Brilliant. Thailog orchestrating the response down to the teardrop without even waking up is also solid gold.

Surprised Brooklyn didn't know (assuming he didn't). Even a century on, it feels like living in NY for a few years it would come up at some point. Although I guess they had other things on their mind.

Not sure what to say about that. Well done for tackling it, I guess. Some good moments but these sorts of things are hard to take in. Just that kind of topic. Not something I'd care to dwell on. But full credit for addressing it.
Cosmina Inspira chapter 1 . 5/10/2018
This day was frightening and difficult for the country, and it still effects us to this day, and for you as someone who lived in NYC I'm certain more difficult and painful than most of us.

I always wondered how it would've effected our favorite clan and this story shows really effectively and realistically how that may have happened, and you did a wonderful job here, showing the experience from everyone perspective like we are right there with them.

Even though I live in a different part of the country and was shocked as anyone when it happened, I hope one day to show the same respect, honor, and significance of this great tragedy in my own version for my series one day, though I know I will have much to live up to and 9/11 is still a day that is not to be taken lightly.

So I will conclude with a thank you, and if you are able to read my story some day I certainly hope it lives up to your example.
dax0042 chapter 1 . 4/28/2018
Man, you really made a great story here. It showed me that no matter what, mankind will stand up for others.
Dr. Algae chapter 1 . 4/28/2018
I was somewhat reluctant to write this review. Not even being a resident of the US, I feel somewhat unqualified to offer any insight and these events. And yet...

This could not have been an easy story to handle but it was perhaps a necessary one. Any series set in NYC at the turn of the millennium would have to address it somehow. Even not mentioning it would be a kind of commentary.

All and all, I think you've done the most tasteful and respectful story that could have been done given the material in question. Frankly, this may be your best story since "Rhapsody".

Well done, Greg. I hope this helped you excise some of those demons.

Peace.
Spacebabie chapter 1 . 4/27/2018
Beautiful story concerning the sensitive subject.
ric castle chapter 1 . 4/25/2018
I’m sorry to hear about what happened.
Todd Jensen chapter 1 . 4/23/2018
Thanks for this one, Bishansky. I thought it treated the subject with a lot of respct and sensitivity.
Harvester of Eyes chapter 1 . 4/23/2018
This is impressive. What impressed me most was the way you remained true to the hearts and souls of the characters, while at the same time applying a real life tragedy into their world. There were moments where a few of them did things I wasn’t expecting, but the voices still sounded very much like the canon characters. In particular, I liked the conversation between Matt and Hacker (so thank you as well, Masterdramon), the moments between the Xanatos family, that little insight into Travis Marshall, and also the moments with Shari.

Speaking of which, both the moments with Shari (and with the couple at the very end) were very well done. That was a day that brought out the best and worst of humanity, and you achieved a good balance of those elements. And I think it was done respectfully. And also, I like that story she told towards the end, playing upon unconfirmed (but very probable) head canon. Unless Greg Weisman did confirm it. I haven’t been to Station 8 in a while.

Also loved the conversation between Demona and he clan. A callback to a single line in “Rhapsody,” now fleshed out in this story, and done so very well.

Yeah, I loved this. I will definitely be reading it again.
DragonBallZJam3000 chapter 1 . 4/23/2018
This story is pretty cool. It really makes me feel like I'm watching an episode of the Gargoyles right now! Keep up the good work!
